I picked this up when it came out last week, and while the systems at work within the game took some getting used to, I'm having a lot of fun with it. The combat is unique, and probably one of the high points of the game. Lightning fights by herself [or with an ally on rare occasions] though she can switch between three schema (a loadout of garb, weapon, shield, accessories) mid-combat. The time-limit-until-the-world-ends is definitely something that I was hesitant about, but you can actually extend said time limit as you play by completing quests. Coincidentally, this is also how you gain HP and combat power. Things like "levels" have been done away with. Abilities are now drops from enemies, and can be synthesized and leveled via Sorcery merchants. Anyhow, don't let the time limit fool you. Early on, you learn an ability called "chronostasis" that allows you to freeze time. It lasts for a good while and can be reused as soon as the previous casting expires. The pool of EP points used to cast such skills are easily renewed via regular combat. All that said, it's quite a good RPG, even if it doesn't quite feel like a Final Fantasy. I still consider FFX to be the last "real" Final Fantasy, but LR is a fun game in it's own right.. IMO, they lost the FF feeling right about the time treasure chests turned into hovering orbs, and they started dressing all of their characters like metrosexuals.

tl;dr - fun game, don't listen to the naysayers.

I played all previous FFXIII. Iwas a few lvls away from finishing the first and only played the second part for about a few days. I never got into liking Lightning and the story never really pulled me in ... my favorite FF so far has been 12, the next FF iill try will be A realm reborn, i hope the beta doesn't disapoint coming saturday the art reminds me alot of 12.

Didn't finish XIII, and didn't play the follow-up, so I don't see myself getting it.

Pass for me. Finished XIII but the experience was a chore and not fun at all. Passed on XIII-2 and I'll be passing on the final game. I know the series has a following but I can't wait for Square-Enix to put the XIII saga behind them and move on to something else.

Finished XIII, was in the middle of XIII-2 but somehow lost interest and stopped. Not sure if I can get back in right now.

Nah. I enjoyed the first game and it was actually the first FF I ever finished. However after maybe 5-10 hours into 2 I just ran out of interest.

I finished and did playthroughs on YT for both XIII and XIII-2. I'm waiting for this one to go down in price. 60 euros is too much for me at the moment.
Share some of that man, especially the XIII-2 stuff. As for price, I don't remember XIII-2 staying high very long and I don't see the same for LR since a good chunk of potential buyers left for the X1/PS4. Square Enix should consider a port of this particular game. That way they have at least one SP FF game out besides the MMO.

the demo was really good, I like the system that you can change the class on the fly.

I rather get this on next gen then now.

There isn't a section on the forum for sharing this sort of thing. You can find the XIII-2 Story Playthrough here:

Here's an exerpt

I actually only played the demo of XIII-2. It didn't really grab me, so I skipped it. Lightning Returns is way different, though. And they got rid of the constant hallway-dungeons from XIII. Don't play it if you don't want to, I'm just saying if you're looking for a good RPG to play, here it is.
