Sony is very confident in the success of its studios and the Brazilian Rafael Grassetti, former Santa Monica art director on God of War, talked about this in a participation in the Flow Games Podcast. According to him, the company demands "at least" a 90 score on Metacritic from its major studios like Santa Monica and Naughty Dog.

Within the company, there is a whole division that specifically takes care of this topic. Games need to go through deeper analysis to achieve higher scores, as he explained. Grassetti confirmed that these reviews are important to the studios, that he is against random reviewers being allowed on Metacritic and denied the existence of an "extra" payment based on score performances. In fact, bonuses are geared toward sales figures.

Explains why Playstation's creativity is dead. Why they didn't allow one of their best games (Days Gone) a sequel, and shows why PS5 is a Remakestation.

Also;

Horizon 2.
GT7
Returnal
Ghost Of Tushima

All failures then. Lol.

Kind of crazy to have an entire department dedicated to reach that target 90 lol.

Also explains why Sony top tier games are so well received and critically acclaimed amongst the industry peers. I mean even MS was blown away with TLOU 2 at the time with ancient PS4 tech.

Yup, lol. Add TLOU for PC to that list.

And Spiderman. Which makes it pretty clear they don't actually demand it.

Not really.

Just means their studios are crap. No wonder they bought 77 rated Destiny Studio. Needed to add quality. Lol.
The guy also apparently never actually said they demanded it. He said ND and SM aim for 90.

Spider-Man has a huge cache or fans, so that definitely helped, had it been a remake or sequel to sunset overdrive it probably would’ve been a sleeper title again. And it’s been shown that Sony doesn’t own the exclusive rights to Spider-Man in the gaming industry, unless it’s one based on their films, otherwise they wouldn’t have paid again to keep it exclusive to avengers.
