No, they weren't "unprepared", they decided to keep supporting PS3 with AAA 1st party games. They could have moved late 2013 games like Gran Turismo 6, Puppeteer, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, Beyond: Two Souls, etc. onto PS4 but they didn't. That long term PS3 1st party support is commendable.Jenkins has a point though. After the longest console generation yet, they appear to have entered this one completely unprepared. If DC had of shipped in time, we would be entering the second crucial holiday season with 0 to 1 first party games.
Sony have made a lot of claims about games, greatness and OS features, none of which look to be realised anytime soon. I'd have been better sticking with my 360 for another year or 2. Sure I know there is a drought after the launch titles, but I would expect that to have ended by it's second holiday season. Instead we get a racing game that's been delayed a year and LBP3. When I picked up my PS4 last November I assumed I'd have a few decent Sony first party games this Xmas. LBP I'll buy to play with my niece and nephew, but I lost all interest in DC this past year, pCARS FTW!!
For those reasons I'm glad Jenkins gave him a hard time, they were the points I would have raised. I hate the retailer and platform specific DLC rubbish also.
I don't know, to me it sounds like a lot of people have never purchased a console at launch before. We had more quality games with the launch of this gen than any other gen I can remember.
No. I knew what to expect as far as a lean first year. But I do agree that both manufacturers weren't exactly prepared.
It's his question on Vita that had me laughing and reminded me of myself.
I can't agree that they weren't prepared, Sony had 2 first party titles at launch and had another big one in the launch window, they had one in May, they'll have another title at the end of July, 2 more in the fall and another in February so in 15 months they'll have released 8 retail releases, that's not counting digital titles.
That's cool. We'll just have to disagree.
It's obvious that some feel the same way though. Some feel the way you do too.
I don't think MS or Sony needs to be "prepared" for a launch with 1sr party titles like in the past, though you could argue they never really have been, with the interviewer having to go back as far as Halo for a true classic available at launch.
Reason being, what's the point? It's the same games at the top of the NPD every damn month. If your system is launching with the most popular titles available for it--COD, AC, BF, NFS, Madden, FIFA, etc.--then why invest too heavily in a new IP out of the gate?
I can't say I agree with that approach, but the games I'm playing weekly on PS4, which are BF and FFXIV, aren't even exclusives. And I certainly wouldn't have wanted to wait a year to play those games. Yeah yeah, PS3 has them as well, but they're so damn fugly.
