Sony is in danger of becoming arrogant

Without a shadow of a doubt, Sony had the strongest presence at E3 2013. They were confident, proud, and ready for the competition. That confidence has only grown through successful PS4 sales figures and worldwide acclaim from critics and fans alike.
One could say that it’s grown too much.

The difference here, though, is the fact that Sony has done a good job of backing up most of their talk. This time around, they have the lower priced system that’s also consumer friendly. They never tacked on any peripherals, nor did they ever publically mention the idea of adding in any type of digital marketplace that would have brought DRM to the console. Considering how poorly their recent hardware launches have gone (599 US dollars, being resigned to selling the Vita as an off-TV screen for the PS4), they deserve to enjoy their success.
There’s something else that needs to be considered here: the fact that Sony’s fans are, without a doubt, the most enthusiastic in the industry. They filled theaters during E3, cheered for developer names before trailers began, and thunderously applauded throughout Sony’s entire E3 press conference. While Nintendo fans are hoping the Wii U can turn things around, and Microsoft fans are happy that Phil Spencer is fixing the mistakes of his predecessor, Sony's audience continues to enjoy a prime position in the industry: out in front with the crowd eating from their hands.
They can’t, however, let it go to their heads. We get it: you made the right moves and Microsoft didn’t. Sony has positioned themselves back to their PS2-era industry dominance. Remember what they were saying before, and during, the PS3’s release and post-launch failure? NeoGAF remembers.
Let’s just hope that it doesn’t get to their head too much, because their software line-up is looking bleak.

they neogaf has a new thread on this that's still open

In danger of becoming arrogant?...um, I believe they're already there, so there is no danger. They have the better console right now, or at least the more popular console. We're still in the early days of this generation, and by no means is their lead solidified for its remainder. If I were them, id just be happy about it, put my head down, and truck on with some class. They don't seem to be able to do that though if the last two E3's are any indication.

Funny thing is, after being outclassed in hardware the last two generations, (PS2/PS3) you'd think they'd be a little more humble about finally having a console that's slightly more sound than the competitions for once. But no, they've resorted to being the equivalent of the school yard bully. Id be careful if I were them. The one they've been picking on is very likely to punch them in the mouth.

PS4 is a great system, but the people behind it need to focus more on pointing out why people should continue to support it, as opposed to taking pointless shots at the competition. The corporate douchery on display from Sony to this point has been abhorrent. Im not saying Microsoft has always kept it's nose clean in this area, but they've certainly never given off this vibe of pretentiousness like Sony has in the PS4. Just be happy about the success of your console, put out some good games, and shut your damn mouths.

What a stupid article.
why
they are concerned sony will return to this

"PlayStation 3, you will see, will be far and away the winner when you look at it by March '08. They really, really will. It's something that is going to be a slow burner, and suddenly it's like a tsunami; it will just overtake you." (David Reeves, 2008)

"I believe that the Sixaxis controller offers game designers and developers far more opportunity for future innovation than rumble ever did. Now, rumble I think was the last generation feature;" (Phil Harrison, 2007)

”With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that... Nintendo knows its target audience, because it has really narrowed that down; and it's pretty much defined by a boy or girl's ability to admire Pokemon.” – (Phil Harrison, 2005)

”The idea of a handheld rivalry with Nintendo is an irrelevance. Those formats don't appear in our planning. It's not a fair comparison; not fair on them, I should stress." (Phil Harrison, 2007)

See, I do not see that as arrogance. In what world does a business with a superior piece of hardware not try to show it and tell people about it ? They may be doing it in a dickish and unnecessary way, but it is far from arrogance, IMO.

Because there is no evidence of it. The Article writer gives no good or valid reasons for his current concern. His whole argument is based on Sony getting a bit of praise. It is stupid, fantastical, gibberish, with no basis of merit. Just look at the article you provided. Where is Sony doing anything close to it ?

LOL. Yeah, um...that pretty much screams arrogance menace. The correlation is an obvious one.

So is the fact that it is common business practice to highlight your strengths and expose a competitors weaknesses. Especially over your biggest rival. We are not talking of an individual here. We are dealing with a large worldwide organization selling a product. This is not arrogance, it is business. MS did it all last gen with there talk of superior online services, oh, and they are doing it again this gen. It is standard in business to do this. If you want to claim that as arrogant then fine, but Sony are being no more so than any other company.

There's a right way to do business, and a wrong way to do business. Even if both ways lead you to the same end result, you still run the risk of making the wrong impression and costing yourself potential gains down the road from the image that you create for yourself over time. Just look what a mixed message cost Microsoft in the early goings of this gen.
