So, if I didn't preorder nor have plans to do a midnight release....is it pretty much a pipe dream for me to expect to get a PS4 Friday morning at a store like target/walmart/best buy???????

Best bet and least time wasted, check out Best Buy. According to the FAQ they hand out the tickets at 10PM for available units. So at least you aren't sitting around all night just for them to go LOL SOL.

some of the best buys are not doing a midnight
mine is not
so try there.. there are suppose to be some extra available
but I would get there really early

Qbert Hmm. I remember you were kind of adamant about not getting these next gen consoles. What exclusive game changed your mind? But whatever the case, it's too late now, and it may be a while. This is why I preordered as soon as possible just in case I found interest in the games during the early life of the console.

Your best bet is to go to a less popular store EARLY and wait.

Yup.. try to think of a store that isn't as obvious.

Around here I remember there was madness surrounding the Xbox 360 launch, but a local store called Fred Meyer, who you don't immediately think of as a videogame reseller, occasionally just randomly had stock.. and their line was far shorter than Best Buy and other more obvious stores on launch night. Dude at the store nearest me at the time told me if I'd waited in line I'd have had one.

I do think people might be pleasantly surprised this gen with not having to do too much hunting.. along with fulfilling several times the pre-orders than last gen they also should be able to refresh the retail supply with just as much relative ease.. I don't know about launch night, but I think there will be no real "shortage" of PS4's or Xbox One's this holiday season overall.. not the easiest product to find, but nothing like last gen.

I was picking up the rest of my pre ordered PS4 games today at GS and they told me that they will be getting additional PS4 consoles to sell beyond just those that were pre ordered so hopefully that will be the case at other stores as well. I know this store has well over 100 pre orders (she wouldn't be more specific) so I was a bit surprised when they told me that. If you get to a place early enough you may have a shot, good luck.

I was never adamant about not getting next gen consoles...if anything, quite a few times, I've mentioned that I kick myself for not pre-ordering. What I did do, was question the value of a 400-500 dollar hardware that already saw many games being toned down compared to pc. That doesn't mean I have no interest in next gen consoles.

I'm a gamer, period....pc, ps3, 360, etc.

If the store is doing a midnight launch, you probably need to be there by 7 pm the latest. Make friends with the people in line and have fun. Overnight lines are brutal if you live in a cold climate. Get there before the sun comes up for the best chance. Good luck!

This is why I'm glad I went the Amazon route. All I need to do on Friday is wake up...and wait...feverishly...while watching various youtube videos and streams of people that already have their consoles...

I mentioned earlier today to Busterman that I hope UPS has the bandwidth available on their site for the frequency at which we're all going to be hitting refresh on our Amazon tracking info on Thursday and Friday.

LOL, I did the same thing but I kinda want to get the console at Costco, just in case. Some are getting 66 consoles on a first come first serve basis. The bundle they're selling is system, extra controller and a 1 year PSN card. I'm waiting to see if it'll go up on their website for order this week. The Canadian Costco site had preorders for PS4 and Xbox months ago, but not here for some reason.

Try K-Mart. Nobody remembers to check Kmart.

Whenever a game is sold out at Best Buy/Gamestop or whatever; a quick stop to that store will net you whatever you want as long as you are able to actually find an employee in that barren wasteland to get it for you.

I had the 360 pre-ordered since the summer b4 launch @gamestop and they told me they didn't have enough to fulfill the pre-orders and I had to wait for shipment 3....
Well I didn't wanna wait and drove all over as it was chaotic lines every where... I didn't get 1 till the gs FINALLY got enough.

I think this will be worse and that experience was bad.

Had pretty much the same experience with my 360 preorder from GS. Needless to say they did not get my preorder this time around.

I guess I could sell you my mine for...

8 years have past.. the world has changed.. production rates have dramatically increased as has the focus on getting a ton of product out for a "big launch."

It took months for MS to have 1,000,000+ 360's in the wild and they'll have that many Xbox One's ready for launch day most likely. They can also produce second/third shipments at a MUCH higher rate.

I think you guys are underestimating Sony/MS's increased ability to produce units.

Maybe but this is very reminiscent of the PS2 launch so far...

I hope you are right as I have a few friends who have been trying to get one.
