Square Enix Aspirations Hindered By Exclusives

This is kind of obvious.

But it is Square Enix so silly decisions is their modus operandi.

Final Fantasy Remake.... you not only did the deal but allowed it to be extended.

How much did Crisis Core sell on Xbox compared to the other platforms? Therein may lie the answer as to why they did the deal.

My guess more then the psp version?

But it hasn’t been out that long, has it?

Only counted PS4/PS5 and Switch versions guessing because the other platforms weren't significant enough.

PS versions Ranking in top 5 across South Korea, Japan and Taiwan charts.

82% of boxed copies were PS platform in the UK, 12% on switch, Xbox 6%.

Still wish Nintendo and Xbox released digital numbers

I'm sure it sold far less than if FFVII Remake had been released on the Xbox. Anybody that owns both systems would ideally want both games on the same system. The exclusivity deals yield the low sales. They could have also done a GamePass deal that guaranteed money in a similar fashion but extended their player base, but chose not to.

Yep. If you can't get the full story why would you buy it. But then we know it sold a lot better in the UK at least digitally on Xbox.

It's dumb business to only give some of the story to some.

Not really, it's a remake of a PSP game. And a prequel to the FF7 remake , so although the titles are tied story wise, it's not like you can't enjoy one without experiencing the other.

You don't think people would prefer to keep FF7 related games on the same system? Why not?

I think people usually get the games on their main system but if you have never played before, like me with Witcher 3, I just got it on the platform that had the sale. For me that was PC. Not playing the first and second game didn't prevent me from enjoying the third either.

LOL. Nobody buying a prequel to a game that isn't available on the console.

The issue is Square Enix not committing and growing the series on Xbox all these years and instead take easy pay outs from Sony. End of discussion.

Not to mention your numbers are garbage. Japan, a country where Xbox doesn't sell. UK boxed charts which are irrelevant as the country is dominated by digital. Yet, you keep posting them like they mean something.

JRPGs never sell well anyways on Xbox.

People either are waiting for Gamepass or they are not interested. For context, how did Tales of Arise do on Xbox only ? Persona 5 even with all the marketing didn't do well sales wise. People played it more via Gamepass. Scarlet Nexus? Xbox had the marketing rights as well, didn't as well either. The list goes on.

As for the numbers, they are what they are. They obviously mean something even if they don't to you as that's why the analysts and charts keep posting them.

UK boxed charts mean f*** all. End of.

Japan sales mean nothing when talking sales on Xbox. That is just common sense.

Persona 5, lol. Where is the rest? But we are expected to jump at an 8 year old game? LMAO!!

Tales Of Arise only sold like 2 million copies. And again, a series that has ignored Xbox over the years. Expecting A platform that Japanese devs ignored for decades to just jump on a random game they put up is moronic.

Like I said, the issue is them not committing to the platform and allowing growth. End of.

Persona 5 sold better on PS platform as a re release despite being originally released 8 years ago on the same platform. That tells you all you need to know lol

It does, and you completely missed it. lol

So a game with good history on a platform sold better on said platform than a platform that got completely ignored. Shocker!! What's next? You going to tell me water is wet

PS always sells better regardless.

Which explains why some devs decide to just forego the Xbox platform because it is not worth the porting effort lol.

One way of going about this is MS paying up to have Xbox gamers get a chance to play on GP. We will see how Persona 6 sells on Xbox since they should have given the Xbox only people a chance to try and see if they like it.

Exactly, seems weird they have this vision of releasing any square enix game on all platforms globally if they keep signing exclusivity arrangements, unless management is a mess too.

Not well is the answer. You don't undo decades of neglect with a port of an 8 year old game.

So in essence you are saying these Japanese devs are the problem. Thanks for agreeing.

Lol I’m the idiot who buys the game physically and plays it on GP cos convince.

If a game is on GP that I enjoy, usually one I’ve never had interest in, like goat sim or vampire hunters, I’ll buy it to support the dev and if it’s really good I’ll then buy it physically if there’s a variant.

I still feel that numbers will never fully match up outside what one may consider “the west”.

Sure Xbox is sold in Europe and Asia but it’s not sold in the same number of countries as PlayStation. It’s kinda flipped in Latin countries, where Xbox tends to have a larger presence, like Mexico. Which would be considered North America….but I guess they don’t cos they gotta wait for Google translate

Its a process. Will take time but Xbox players do like Japanese games. Hell, Lost Odyssey is considered one of the great Xbox games of the X360 era.

LO is great and did around 1M.

I've always been pretty confident in the theory that MS cut ties with Mistwalker as part of the deal to bring FF to Xbox 360.
They have history of killing titles to please other publishers(f*** you EA you bitter sods over MS sports division putting out better games).
