He didn't do anything to cause Hillary to lose, I'm not saying you are saying that but she hurt herself and it's annoying AF when I hear people in the media blame Bernie bro's or Sanders supporters for her loss, she wasn't owed their votes it was up to her to earn them. Most of them likely wouldn't have voted in the first place, he was getting people interested that otherwise would have just sat home.

I don't blame him and he campaigned hard for her but when he no longer had a path to win he should have no longer have been attacking her. He could have kept talking his issues to push her to the left but attacking her when he had nothing to gain just cements people's negative views on her. He even has important people on his campaign that voted third party in swing states and we can't have the run back on that thinking again. The election is too important.

He can't be stubborn this time around. I don't care if its Joe Biden and he drops dead after he wins the nomination. Drag his corpse into the White House like its Weekend at Bernie's.

He lost against Hillary but that wasn't really a fair fight to begin with. The DNC stacked the deck, the media virtually ignored him until he won Michigan, the conventional wisdom before the primary even started was Hillary would be the nominee, everyone knew who she was and nobody outside of Vermont knew who he was so it's not like he started on a level playing field and even then he put up a great fight. He does come off a bit crusty I'll give you that lol but at least he's a guy who's been fighting for what's right his entire career and he's won a lot more than he's lost.

While there was definitely a ton of bias against him (especially from his own side), Bernie came off very badly against a candidate that nobody really went out of their way to like. Bernie gets asked simple questions about his policy and he gets all out of sorts. He never seems to have a good answer for "how are you going to pay for all this?" other than higher taxes.

He's an idealist, but pragmatism is needed to win elections. I respect him for having his convictions. Him not falling in line in 2016 and then leaving the party completely only to come back again in 2020 should disqualify him already. He's doing more harm than good. He's done a great job of bringing ideas to the mainstream over the many years, but he should step back and let someone with a better chance to win to sell it.

I agree with that, but when the media stops talking about his idiocy, people will think he's becoming normal. Every absurdity that comes out of his mouth needs to be repeated. I do agree his awful policies need to be front and center, and I do think they are, at least the outlets I frequent, but those happen to be mainstream also.

Was going to make a similar point. It's the media job to report the news. A dumb policy from an idiot is news unfortunately. Blaming the media is such a cop-out.

People are becoming numb now because the media ONLY talks about Trump, they spent way too much time on Russia which sadly most people just didn't care about so people tuned it out. Most people don't even know about the burning rain forest because we had countless talking heads discussions over Trump wanting to buy Greenland etc. Too many "journalists" want to focus on bashing his twitter feed instead of going out and reporting on things that are happening as a result of the policies, it's lazy and serves no real purpose. They can and should cover it they just need to cut back on ONLY covering that and start talking about everything else. They aren't doing it to inform us, they are doing it to keep their ratings up, let's not forget the media are in large part to blame for his election in the first place.

She was already one of the two least liked candidates of all time so it's kind of hard to say he cemented peoples negative feelings toward her when she did enough of that on her own.

OMFG have a peak into my insane world.

Lots of truckers are hard-core rugged individualist conservative types as well as strongly religious or evangelical leaning. I feel out of place in this absurd career all the time. I do not fit into mainstream trucker culture at all.

I'm not sure what to think about the rumblings I hear about a possible Recession coming. I thought this had some interesting comments between popular numbers on GDP or Employment versus the story behind the employment numbers.

I think the media is pushing this recession thing a bit too hard right now, it's like they are trying to accelerate it to have more doom and gloom to talk about. Yeah we could have one coming but it's not like we are in one now but you wouldn't know it with some of the headlines lately. It's too early to start pushing this for political purposes IMO, we still have a year plus before the election, we don't need another Russia flop on our hands. What hey should be doing is going around and reporting about people who this "great economy" isn't helping.

I literally have MSNBC, CNN on all day at work. They cover everything and I don't see one news item being covered more than another. In the first hour of Morning Joe, they covered tom cotton saying he was the one who proposed buying Greenland. They talked about Biden's poll numbers and how the other candidates attacking Obama probably played a roll in his bump. They talked about the trade war with China and also the upcoming G7 summit. They discussed ISIS's resurgence and how they are kidnapping children. They talked about the manufacturing industry contracting for the first time in a decade. They haven't yet talked about the Amazon. I hope they will.

To be fair, this mentality goes way beyond just blue collar workers. Bill Maher calls it the "toxic D". They hate Democrats so much that they completely look past the faults on their own side. You talk to any Trumper honestly and one phrase you hear often is "but he's good the the economy".

One big problem is that people have this belief that a President has a massive and immediate impact on the economy. The stock market rises overall and people assume it is Trump. People completely ignore that a President's impact on the economy is much more nuanced and impacts might not be felt for years. Anyone with a simple understanding of economics can see that our deficit is going to be a massive problem down the line (Fox News just had an article on it critical of Trump FFS), but people just don't care.

I care very much about the economy, but I woke up to the Republican myth decades ago. W Bush should have been the refresher course on the bulls*** that is trickle down economics, but here we are again - cutting taxes for the rich and increasing spending at the same time. People get mad that we're warning of a recession, but that's because we've seen this exact cycle over and over and know that the bubble is going to burst. It might not be today or tomorrow, but it is coming. Only question is how bad is it going to be. People still just can't wrap their heads around the fact that Democrats are actually better for the economy than this trickle down nonsense.

People also think Trump will come up with these amazing deals, but based on what?

Trump has torn down:
TPP
Obamacare
Iran Deal

and replaced them with:
Jack squat

I guess it depends on how a Recession is defined. The discussion in that video shows views on Wall Street stability versus the average American. Wall Street may get a bit rocky or have a slump, but pull through, but none of that really matters to the people who have no investments in the market.

I would like to get out of trucking; I often look at job postings or the local Facebook job board. Things are not dire by any stretch, but I feel many areas have stagnation. I see lots of people looking for a 2nd job. I even see trades people looking for jobs. Their work seems to be with contracts until they run out.

That video about trucking freight is correct in that there is a trucking recession. Owner Operators are really struggling or going under. Smaller companies have shutdown, one leaving drivers stranded. I'm a company driver and so far we're doing okay, though not as well as last year.

A large employer in Mobile, AL that builds ships is having layoffs.

Also, it may not be they the Recession is necessary a Bubble pop triggering a domino effect of failures.

A recession hurts middle class in job loses and lost wages. The wealthy always benefit from a recession because they have investments that are pulled out, they wait until the markets drop, and then they flood the market again. The middle class and lower don't have that option. Sure, they may have a retirement fund/401/IRA, but they are at the mercy of the market. They can't take the money out when the markets start contracting without massive penalties. It's why many people who were at retirement age in 2008 were absolutely destroyed.

My Dad is retirement age but still working. He's healthy and he works from home so he's in no rush. I keep thinking back to 2008 and am trying to convince him to get out while the getting is good. Of course he's a die hard Republican Trumper who's convinced that Trump will fix everything.

Like you said, the same thing happened in 2008. The market crashes and people who were about to retire suddenly can't without taking a massive loss. So, those people stick it out another year or two, and that impacts jobs all down the line. Suddenly there are fewer promotions available and you get a log jam at the top/middle, followed by tons of layoffs. All most people in the middle class can do is ride it out and hope they don't end up losing everything.

What's scary is that wages have just started to rise in the past few years after 2008. That's almost a decade to recover for the average person.

I should have been more specific, I'm talking the prime time people, daytime stuff on all channels is more '"news" but most people are at work and don't get to see it.

I love the "pro-electoral college" argument that "Our vote in Iowa won't matter!".

Of course the EC makes my vote in NY State along with 19.54 million others not matter vs 3.156 million people in Iowa.

But hey, let's let Florida or Pennsylvania pick the president every 4 years.

Just think how many voters stay home knowing their vote never matters?

The reasons given for keeping the EC hold no water, the only voices that are silenced are people in states who always go for the party they don't belong to. There are plenty of Republicans in CA and NY and Democrats in Texas, Utah, the Dakotas, Oklahoma etc who feel that voting is pointless because at the end of the day their vote for POTUS won't count.
