Facebook isn't changing its name, though. It's just renaming a replacement parent company, not unike when Google formed the company Alphabet.

I'm guessing it will be called something like "New Horizons", due to it likely steering to their upcoming social VR platform.

From what I heard, the name of the app, Facebook, will remain the same. However, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, What's App, and Oculus will be something different.

I've been trying to decide if the possibility of Zuckerberg moving up from Facebook itself is such a good thing, as there's a possibility that he will just move up and spread out further, doing more damage. However, I do strongly think he needs to step away from FB. As a VR fan, I'm worried what he'll do to that community too, but I do know that things need to change. Basically, I think that if any major restructure happens, if he's not FB CEO, it's a good thing.

I suspect that facebook is making the move to create the parent company to deal with future legal issues.
