The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Man, it does look good. The picture, the graphic, everything. Dang, I need to buy Lord of the Rings Trilogy first before seeing The Hobbit. I've only seen the first movie of the Lord of the Ring once and thought it was pretty good.
Hobbit us the first book. You should see them first.

Not at all, this movie has little to do with the book. Eventually there will be a fan edit that removes all the extraneous stuff, and all three movies will be condensed down to two hours. I felt that this movie was just the Peter Jackson milking fans and wasting time to get to the third movie, as very little actually happens in this movie...

Even things like Bilbo's confrontation with Smaug... Good stuff for like the first 5 minutes, the problem is the scene goes on for like an half an hour, gets boring and ruins the scene.

Also, Jackson has obviously watched one too many beheading videos, as beheading is a reoccurring theme in this movie.

Also... Many subplots in this movie having nothing to do with the book, or even the JRR tolkien universe.

The Hobit is imploding into mucky confusing suck much the same way the Star Wars Prequels did. Where we all thought it couldn't get any worse after the phantom menace, yet it did.

Too many sub plots, not enough exposition, then the one character who would be capable of giving us the explanations that we need, is removed from the main thread of the story, and goes off on his own subplot that has literally nothing to do with the original story.

Awful movie. Do not see.

Movie was great. Don't listen to anything XBoxNeo says unless you hate enjoying yourself and being entertained. Surely it takes liberties with the original material, I mean hell they go so far as to create a new character who has lots of screen time... but not only does Evangeline Lilly look spectacular with pointy ears and honestly I just want to give her a backrub and make her homemade spaghetti sauce whenever I see her, her role adds a little emotional depth to the story as there is a bit of a love triangle. Which in turn makes the dwarves a bit more interesting. Also, Smaug is awesome. Oh and Sauron makes an appearance. So yeah, go see it and have fun. Or you could sit at home and play bridge with xboxneo while he complains about how the movie doesn't match the source material to the letter and how it's so wasteful to make three movies out of one book. I'd rather go and watch Evangeline Lilly to be honest

To be honest, if you're expecting the movie to be as accurate as the book, then you're dreaming. A lot of times the movies always change something (small or great) that may be different from the books. It's been like this for many years already. And I'm not surprise. You shouldn't be, anyway. :) Even though I have yet to see this movie, I still believe it'll be an excellent movie for me as I did enjoyed the first movie of The Lord of The Rings. And also love that director. He's amazing as usually, so I trust him.

I enjoyed it a lot. I watched it in German, so I cannot comment on Benedict voice over & all, but I will surely watch it again when it was out on bluray or something in its original language.

Finally saw the first one. It was boring. The FX was horrible.

Mmm.... sawy DoS. Hell of a movie. Can't wait for the third act. Smaug was beast and the part with the giant gold statue was awesome. Absolutely loved it.

Will the next one come out this year?

I haven't actually watched any of them yet so I might just wait for them all to be out and watch them all back to back (also haven't read the book so might do that first)
