“There were a difficult couple of days before the show – I’m sure you noticed. I’m so happy it was retracted before the show happened.” He then said that development was still on for the game.

“Lots of people tweeted me they were heartbroken by that news [prior to the show]. People are going through this roller coaster of emotions, and it’s our fault for not releasing the game, yet.

“We owe a lot to those people, but we really don’t want to release piecemeal information until we can say this is The Last Guardian – so we ask you to wait.”

Scott Rohde:

The Last Guardian's exclusion from Sony's E3 presentation has been explained.

The forthcoming action-adventure title wasn't showcased during the presser because it simply 'wasn't ready'.

"It was a fun week of Last Guardian news," PlayStation executive Scott Rohde told GameSpot.

"At PlayStation, it's really important to us to make sure that the creative process works."

He added: "And in this case, [game director Fumito Ueda] has created something that's great, it's just going to need some time. We'll show it when it's ready."

He did not explain anything. No reason why they could not have put up a trailer.

All I got from that was that Sony still doesnt have their stuff together. A trailer would be all that was needed.

I've given up hope and think it's vapourware, but for some reason sony wants to keep up the charade only to break our hearts officially whenever they feel like it.

Its starting to have a vaporware feeling to it. Even if it does eventually get released, this game is going to have to sell like gangbusters to justify(i.e. break even/turn a profit) its 7+ year development budget and subsequent marketing budget.

Most likely. Though I bet its been shelved for the past several years, with maybe sporadic development work here and there.

I have given up on this game. Though when or if it does come out, I will be downloading on day one.

My point exactly :)

I knew that

It's been seven years since work started on The Last Guardian, five years since it was announced, and who knows how many rumor posts saying that the game — begun as, and possibly still, a PlayStation 3 title — has been canceled.

Most recently, that common rumor surfaced right before this year's E3.

It's not just the long wait that drives these rumors, the game has run into some significant issues, including the departure of producer Fumito Ueda as a full-time employee at Sony. He does remain on the project as a consultant, but the story of the game's creation remains deeply hidden.

So when I wrapped up my interview with Sony worldwide studios head Shuhei Yoshida with one more question, Yoshida knew what was coming.

"It exists. The team is working hard on it," he intoned almost rhythmically. "I was heartbroken when some article came out on some major site saying it was canceled."

Yoshida reiterated that he has played the game, but declined to say anything about the experience. That long-running silence, I told him, might be why people start to think the game is dead. People start to worry.

"I will say this," Yoshida said. "When we cancel a title and it is something we have announced already, we'll say so.

"It's a highly anticipated title, we have to do so."

Vapourware.

The game was labeled cancelled by IGN, then reversed when Sony said it's still in development. To shut every one up, they could have put together a 30 second trailer for E3 with some basic visuals and gameplay. but they didn't.

You can tell the game has edged to vapourware because on GAF, they will let games in development keep on going in threads, but a mod made a new thread saying until they get proof of development they are considering it vapourware themselves despite Sony coming out and saying otherwise.

That IGN report was a complete sham. There is TONS OF NEWS AND OFFICIAL QUOTES SAYING DEVELOPMENT IS PROGRESSING ALONG FINE.

Yoshida: If The Last Guardian is Cancelled, We’ll Say So

SCE’s Shuhei Yoshida confirms the team is working hard on the game.

As great a week as Sony had for its media briefing, it had a fairly rough week when it came to countering rumours about The Last Guardian being cancelled. Sony confirmed the game hasn’t been cancelled but as President of Worldwide Studios SCE Shuhei Yoshida told Polygon, if it indeed is cancelled, they’ll let us know.
“It exists. The team is working hard on it. I was heartbroken when some article came out on some major site saying it was canceled. I will say this. When we cancel a title and it is something we have announced already, we’ll say so.”
That being said, The Last Guardian has been in development for several years now. The Last Guardian was originally meant to release on PlayStation 3 but was delayed indefinitely. It’s now pegged to be arriving on PlayStation 4 when it’s eventually re-revealed but that still feels a ways off. What are your thoughts on the matter? Let us know below.

Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann Mocks The Last Guardian Cancellation Rumor’s Internal Sources

by Giuseppe Nelva on June 8, 2014 4:19 PM 38 @abriael
PS4PS3News

As probably most of the internet already knows, between today and yesterday a few media outlets reported the alleged cancellation of Tean ICO’s The Last Guardian, citing internal Sony source as the origin of the rumor, and even going as far as mentioning that it was “officially” canceled.
Naughty Dog Creative Director Neil Druckmann has been under fire by this kind of internal sources in the past, during the whole hubbub about the departure of Amy Hennig. Some media outlets chalked that as his fault, forcing the studio’s co-founders to take steps in order to protect their employee’s reputation.
In that light, it’s quite understandable for Druckmann’s reaction to be not exactly charitable, as he shared on Twitter.

For those that aren’t familiar with Game of Thrones, the two “gentlemen” (airquotes obligatory) portrayed are Varys and Petyr Baelish, and they aren’t exactly held in high regards due to their activity as spies. Those that read the books or watched the movies will probably catch the reference quite easily.

Shuhei Yoshida Explains The Last Guardian’s Absence from E3 (This Year)

Another year, another reason The Last Guardian is missing.

11th, Jun. 2014 | Posted In News | By Ravi Sinha| Follow This Author @splitscreener

Rumours were rife that Team ICO’s The Last Guardian had been cancelled prior to Sony’s E3 media briefing. Nonetheless, while Sony clarified these claims, we still saw no sign of the game at the expo. President of worldwide studios for SCE Shuhei Yoshida spoke to Eurogamer about the situation for the past couple of days and why The Last Guardian missed E3 again.

Lots of PS4 Games by Japanese 1st and 3rd Parties Coming at TGS; The Last Guardian Progressing Fine

by Giuseppe Nelva on June 11, 2014 2:03 PM 63 @abriael
PS4News

Besides Bloodborne, Sony’s E3 press conference was dominated by western games, but SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida mentioned in an interview on the Japanese site 4Gamer that we shouldn’t worry about Japanese titles.
This time we were focused on introducing titles for the North American region, but of course about Japanese games first parties and also third parties are developing a large number or them. We should be able to show you the latest in that area at Tokyo Game Show 2014.
And before you ask, the development of The Last Guardian is progressing just fine.
Yoshida-san was then asked if the game had been shifted to the PS4, but he declined to answer, saying that he could not add more detail and all he could say is that it’s being properly developed.
Personally, Tokyo Game Show is my favorite event of the year, so I can’t wait to see what Sony and other developers will unveil then. I know it may seem strange to think about Tokyo Game Show right in the middle of E3, but I’m a strange sort of fellow.

The Last Guardian Won’t be at E3, Still in “Full Development”

At least the game is still alive.

09th, Jun. 2014 | Posted In News | By Ravi Sinha| Follow This Author @splitscreener

The Last Guardian hasn’t been cancelled – which is the good news – and in a recent interview by Geoff Keighley with Sony America’s boss Shawn Layden, he confirmed that the game was in “full development”, that too “unequivocally.”
However, it won’t be at E3 according to a source that spoke to VG247. So whatever big reveals that Sony may have in mind, The Last Guardian will not be one of them. At least there’s still Entwined to look forward to.
The fiasco began when IGN reported that The Last Guardian had been cancelled according to a source. Sony later came out to confirm this to be false – which leads us to think that The Last Guardian is alive but still in development limbo. Regardless, what are your thoughts on the game? Are you still interested in it even after all this time it’s taken to develop? Let us know in the comments below.

Playstation community expected Sony to re-reveal The Last Guardian at their Playstation E3 2014 press conference but sadly it was nowhere to be found. Scott Rohde, PlayStation software product development head has told our friend at GameSpot that The LAst Guardian is not yet ready to be shown publicly.

At E3 2014, Scott first pointed out the recent The Last Guardian cancelation rumor and said: "It was a fun week of Last Guardian news,"
He added, "At PlayStation, it's really important to us to make sure that the creative process works. And in this case, [game director Fumito Ueda] has created something that's great, it's just going to need some time. We'll show it when it's ready."
When asked whether development team has shifted the plaform from Playstation 3 to Playstation 4 for The Last Guardian? Scott replied: "I'm not going to talk about it more than that,"
So there you have it folks, The Last Guardian is making some great development progress but is still not ready to be shown publicly, confirms Sony. Tell us in the comment section below, Did you missed The Last Guardian at E3 2014?

?Yoshida “Heartbroken” By Rumor, If The Last Guardian Was Cancelled He’d Tell Us
June 12 2014 by Abby Foote

The drama continues. The Last Guardian is easily the most talked about game not present at E3, with rumors spreading before the show that the game was cancelled, and Sony Computer Entertainment's Shuhei Yoshida denying those rumors in person during the conference. During an interview with Polygon, Yoshida addressed the rumors once again, saying he was "heartbroken" when he saw the article making the false claim and assuring PlayStation fans he would tell them directly if such a decision was made.

"It exists. The team is working hard on it. I was heartbroken when some article came out on some major site saying it was canceled."

Yoshida went on to assure fans they wouldn't cancel the game without telling the public.

"I will say this. When we cancel a title and it is something we have announced already, we'll say so. It's a highly anticipated title, we have to do so." ? Shuhei Yoshida

Yoshida also confirmed that he has played the game, but chose not to comment about the experience.

I still think all the footage they had of the ps3 version was total bs.

Maybe they knew they couldn't make the game BEFORE the PS4 came out for the PS3, and now that the PS4 IS out, maybe they are porting it to the PS4, taking their time, and waiting for a larger user-base.
