For balance ;), this is a place to round up all the technical specs of the PS4. Again, this isn't a comprehensive list of sources but something that can be added to, so please post anything that I have missed. No tickling.

VGleaks Playstation 4 articles
The best place for detailed PS4 spec leaks copied from official Sony documents gained by slightly unsavoury means. NOTE - the information presented here is before the RAM increase from 4 to 8 GB.

System Overview
GPU
DisplayScanOut Engine
Memory Bus
Memory Enhancements
Audio
The infamous 14+4 CU balance

Gamasutra - Inside the PlayStation 4 With Mark Cerny
Very good article in which PS4 System Architect Mark Cerny details the design decisions and silicon customizations inside the box.

Thanks for the effort. Just a heads up we have absolutely no idea what the clock speed on the CPU is.

You're absolutely right of course but it is safe to assume, considering how reliable the Vgleaks docs have been, to pin it at 1.6 GHz for now.

Thanks for the sticky, Anderson.

The next generation is finally here. It's a shame about the CPU clock however, but that's the trade-off for not going with IBM's PowerPC.

Next generation is almost here, crazy to think that a year ago people were speculating on 16core CPUs, dual GPUs and all kinds of other stuff. Time flies, it's going to be crazy to look back to this time period a year from now.

I thought about archiving TXB for the lulz but too much spam.

Awesome, just please mods don't let Xbox people come in here comparing the 2 consoles and trying to say their console is better.

I don't even go on the Xbox boards anymore and I wish people that weren't interested in the PS4 would stay away from our boards. Believe it or not, sometimes I want to come onto the Playstation board and see what's new for the console or read something positive about it not constant arguing over which console is better all the time :smash:

Btw, doesn't the PS4 have some exclsuive thing the GPU can do that Sony asked AMD for. I was reading it after E3 but don't remember what it was called.

Says the guy constantly saying the XBox One is underpowered and Sony devs are going to show everyone on here...I kid don't sulk.

Did we finally get an answer on how much Ram the OS uses?

Also I'm assuming both consoles will be using the most up to date BD available? If so how much better is it compared to the one used in PS3's?

Oh and Cerny deserves a good rest once the launch is over. Guy looks like he is working himself to death now days.

Sony did a grand job announcing the console compared to the PS3.

We're trying. You guys can help by using the "report" function. We're averaging around 1000 posts a day, so it's hard to catch everything. If you notice something that's off-topic, ticklish, or insulting, report it, and we'll take care of it.

 I like him a lot and you can't question his work ethic. You want somebody like this to work on any project of this magnitude for a company.

Just so I'm clear, Sony said we can connect DS4 controllers to our PC from day one? I remember reading that on many different forums.(and maybe IGN or Gamespot as well?)

Not sure if they did, it was a rumour coming out of PAX (or maybe Gamescom?) from a dev saying you could (and that the touchpad could double as a mouse pad?) IIRC

Ok cool

So, does that mean the prompts in a game like Batman Arkham City will still be 360 buttons?(though you'd be fine if you know the DS design)

Are you talking about the extra bit used in in the GPU calls to indicate whether to flush memory and copy indexes (or not) for coherency?

Deleted a bunch of posts. Stay on topic, please.

Why was my post deleted since I answered John's question about extra GPU stuff added by Sony?

Anyways, I believe it was the additional bit setting for flushing cache and setting coherency.

Sorry, it probably just got caught in the net like an innocent dolphin. I'll release it.

It can get a little tedious, going through the repeated derailments around here and trying to separate wheat from chaff. Moderating is not as glamorous as I'd hoped. No groupies or nothing, just cleaning up a bunch of fanboy poo. :really:

As long as there was no "issue", all's good. Chaff happens. ;)

Why did my post get deleted, it was a PS4 hardware thing. I thought it was important anyway :smash:

With a title like "PS4 performance advantage over Xbox One greater than many expect" in big, bold font, you really have to ask that?

edit (days later): rules have changed. "versus" talk is okay now.

It was what they wrote on their front page and it was from AMD themselves. And plus I am in the PS forum not in the multi console forum.

Oh well that was the thing I was thinking of earlier , it's called HUMA. I've lost the link now but it's got to do with the PS4.

HUMA (or concurrency) is not unique to just PS4. But anyways, that is in part what the extra bit register customization I mentioned above is for.

Wouldn't that be common sense?

Yes.. That's why I post it here.
Explaing it to you people who don't have common sense - and probably figured it would crash the system. :p

Lot's of people don't know how the Playgo system on PS4 works - and will be used on both disk and download games.
You download a part of the game, and can start playing still while downloading from PSN.
Same system will be used on diskversions of games - so HDD installation should be much smoother than on PS3, now you start playing while installing chunks in the background, the diskdrive beeing 6x CAV compared to PS3's 1.5x CAV would mean that it should go quite much faster.
Hopefully the game will be ready to play by the time the intro has streamed finnished on disk-versions, so if we see an installation-screen that might be a rare occurence. :)
