The Wolf Among Us - 2024

Gotta be honest,I don't dig it. Beauty from Beauty and The Beast a prostitute, the Big Bad Wolf a werewolf,Mr Toad a deadbeat dad and...Ichabot Crane?! Oh,C'mon he isn't even from a f***ing fairy tale. Why don't they include f***ing Don Quijote while they're at it!

I've just about f***ing had it with all these grim n' gritty modernizations of classic fairy tales. All these bulls*** movies,TV series and videogames are distorting classic fables for future generations. These tales, from Aesop's to modern days are supposed to contain moral lessons (and a few cautionary messages) and they are being scrambled and diluded. and the worst part, the target demographic (white middle class Christian Americans) are eating that s*** up with a spoon.
You realize this isn't meant to be the actual fairy tales? It's an adaptation and those allow plenty of room for across the board changes. You'd have to be a special kind of idiot to honestly believe these games are trying to represent the actual fairy tales. Of course, if you don't like it, that's another thing entirely, but to put the badge of corruption with a side of racism on it is reaching.

I haven't seen anyone react this heavily to this game..most ppl just say.."TWD is better" or "the colors are gay". It's just a game from an already existing comic book series'which has been out for a while too. I liked seeing characters from tales I grew up with in a different context and setting. It didn't bother me. This tale's cautionary message is: Always walk or stay in pairs.

Downloaded episode 1 when it was free on XBL but I've not finished it yet as I was busy with Dead Rising.

So far I'm enjoying it.

I got nothing against the game. It's just this whole general Hollywood/media trend right now. When I see stuff like this

Hansel_and_Gretel_Witch_Hunters_.jpg

something cries out from the depths of my soul. And when I hear that there are FOUR upcoming modern adaptations of the Wizard of Oz (including a post-apocalyptic version,a Game of Thrones-like version and a CSI-like version) and several modern versions of Peter Pan (including an R-rated one) I can't help but cringe.

A post-apocalyptic Wizard of Oz and an R Rated Peter Pan!? Going to be a good year (assuming they come out this year)!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I never check those movies. I think there was one of Red riding hood as well if I'm not mistaken.

Except Fables has been doing it since 2002. It was seminal. The titles you mention after are exploitative pale imitations and deserving of your distaste.

Not really sure why dib is getting that upset? Don't like that sort of thing just avoid them and again these Fables stories aren't exactly new.

I think he sees them as messing up the real thing somehow, which are a part of childhood memory.

To me, it's just Hollywood being Hollywood. Whatever sells, they copy and copy and copy, until people get sick of it and the trend runs out of gas. I'm not mad about it like mua'dib, but it does seem very cheesey and me-too'ish. But that's the movies. I don't have that same feeling about comics (don't read them, so don't really know the trends), and this is a videogame adapted from a comic.

I was sick of zombies -- another trend making the rounds -- and that's part of why I avoided The Walking Dead for a long time. When I eventually got around to it, it was one of my favorite games of the year. So just because the genre is stale doesn't mean the game will be. I'm betting Telltale will do something interesting with it.

Nah,bra. It's just that No Country For Old Men feeling setting in...

Again,nothing against the game,really.

Back to the game.
Possible killer spoiler
could the killer be the ginger guy seen thought out episode one? He is even driving the Taxi Snow White is last seen alive in

Downloaded this when it was free but have yet to play it. Seems like a pretty weird game from the trailers I've seen.

Episode 2 now available. I hope this one is longer than the first one. Anderson l'd like to hear your impressions when you get the chance!

Thanks, DP, but I think I'll hold off. I don't really like the experience of waiting 2 months between episodes. It feels too disjointed to me. I think I'll wait until the end, then play them all at once. That's what I did with the Walking Dead, Season One, and I think it had a much bigger impact on me because I played it that way, rather than piecemeal.

That's what I am going to do as well.

I'm torn as to whether I want to play this or not. I love the gamelay of Telltale's stuff, but being that this is a prequel to the Fables comic series, I don't know if I want to run the risk of getting interested in that, because it's almost 150 issues in at this point. XD

Played it today. Loving it but saw the final twist coming WAY before the end of the first Act of episode 2.

I don't even feel like getting ep 2 atm. The waiting killed it for me. Maybe if they'd release the eps in a timely manner and in a less choppy state, I'd feel more engaged with it.

Not sure if ill buy now or when the series is finished/season pass goes on sale.

Beware if you bought the Season Pass. Don't try to download the game through the normal route, in game. You have to wait for MS to send you a special unlock code for episode 2, which arrived 2 days after the episode was available. I got charged $5 for the episode even though I already had a season pass. So did a bunch of other people. I suppose I should call MS and arrange for a refund, although I'm not sure $5 is worth the trouble. Kind of annoying.

I went ahead and played Episode 2 after all, because I'm running out of things to play on my 360. I know most gamers aren't like me, but I enjoy these games that "tell a tale," so to speak. There isn't a lot of gameplay besides picking an occasional dialog response or selecting which item on screen to examine, but I like the story, so I'm enjoying it.

I will say, though, that Telltale is not technically very proficient. Even with very simple graphics and slow-paced gameplay, the game still chugs and stutters a lot. Feels rushed.

I am not quite finished, but I enjoyed the bit I played. This episode feels more like you are doing some detective work and establishing relationships.

Good. I'll probably wait for that.
