While a part of us would like another child, we've decided we're getting too old to have another baby. We currently have two girls, 14 and 3 and a half. Have been using the calender method the last year cause my wife feels crappy when using birth control.
My little buddy doesn't look good in hats ethier... lol.
Anyone here taken the plunge?

If I ever do a longggg time from now, I'm demanding to be put under. I'll pay.

A buddy of mine. He doesn't have kids either. Seemed like a rather permanent move on his part in my opinion. Won't even contemplate it myself ;)

I did it last year. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Stared at the ceiling the whole time lol. He did bring in some Uni med students to observe ( I hear the guy after me had them work on him and that it took longer). Anyways you don't feel anything during just the doc tugging and pulling so it feels awkward. If you get it done then during the procedure have your wife (or whoever is driving you home..you don't want to drive home yourself trust me) go and get a frozen bag of peas or two so you can ice it up as soon as possible. Once the anesthetic starts to wear off it feels like you just got kicked there nice and hard, so keeping it iced up helps.. alot.

My suggestion is to do it on a thursday, take the friday off, and don't do ANYTHING for those 3 days.. just sit down and ice it, it will keep the swelling down and help it heal quicker. A friend of mine decided to not heed that advice and was up and doing things the next day and it didn't heal and was in pain for a month. My doc didn't use stiches so I had a nice little hole up in there for a bit until it healed over..and I was changing the dressings on it frequently so they wouldn't get stuck.

I did it after my 4th child was born lol it was time.

I just had my second, and hopefully last, child a little over a month ago. I'm gonna wait a year or so, and then get snipped. I don't know why people make such a big deal outta it

Yeah it's not a big deal, just awkward for guys to talk about I guess. I think the worst part is no hanky panky for a few months while it heals

I scheduled it once, then chickened out. I know it's minor surgery, but hey, it's my weiner.

Sounds like a reasonable decision. How old are you btw? People live long as hell now, having kids at like 60+. What a generation gap that would be, how could you even relate to your child? My father and I are 48 years apart, it's cool to hear him talk about old crap from the 30's & 40's, but we are so different when it comes to normal social things in society.

It seems natural to make a big deal out of it, probably because our entire point of existence as a male is to procreate. So it seems to auto give us the heebeegeebees when we think about that being taken. (IMO)

Okay umm yeah I'm not thinking of getting this anymore.

It aint that bad and actually it increases your sex drive. at least for me it did.
there was the occasional feeling like someone punched you in the balls for the first month or two but they are fleeting.
word of advice, dont take the valium they give you BEFORE you drive there. I should have asked my hot wife to drive me but I wasn't loopy yet when i got behind the wheel.
I did it during March Madness when its sort of like a holiday but with no relatives around.
the Dr asked me if I wanted to listen to any music while he shaved my balls. I said sure , what do you have?
"Pink Floyd, Tori Amos, Tool."
Dr is also a comedian

....and if you change your mind, you can always have the op reversed.

Thought you couldn't reverse it. I went for a consultation and he told me it could not be reversed
A friend of mine had a vesectomy after having two children with his first wife, got divorced and then remarried about 10 years later and wanted to have children with his new wife and so had it reversed. I think it was part of the pre-nup.
I guess he doesnt have a problem with needles either

You can have them reversed. Thing is, insurance covers the vasectomy, most times it doesn't cover the cost of having it reversed, and its like 4 times the cost of a vasectomy.

It can be reversed. The usual procedure is to snip the vans and clip both ends, in the reversal they just reattach. Also, it has been known for the clips to pop off if not put on correctly and the vans will self attach over time.

I know they can be reversed but that its not always completely successful and there can be problems with either volume or sperm count.
Yup, plus...do you really want them messing around in your junk again? lol. If you are going to do it make sure it's what you two think is the best course..and treat it as permanent. It really isn't as bad as it may seem, and that craigslist link exagerated on it..at least from my experience, YMMV.

The worst part was the little sting from the needle used to deaden it. I'm a pretty horny guy and couldn't wait very long after the procedure and wound up squirting a little blood mixed in followed by a bit of swelling.

Have you considered telling your women to get her tubes tied by the way?
That's not reversable, a full surgery, and it can be hard on her system, a Vasectomy is just an easier way to go.

Also, I subscribe to the school of thought that since the woman has gone through enough pain from pushing the kids out of her that the least I could do is get my s*** clipped.
