Twitch streaming resolution

Good one OJ, comments such as that should be delivered with 'Everyone where Kung Fu Fighting' soundtrack. :p

960x540 or qHD is a quarter of 1080p - Full HD - I think, might be a good fit for most livestreams - especially if people are supposed to be watching on phones and Vita, phones, etc.
It would be better if the user could choose tough, and Twitch would convert the stream on the fly on their PC's with great internet connections - not really sure how streaming such as that works in server-land. But if you store the video on Twitch - I assume they use full resolution atleast(?) they don't scale it down?

Yeah I think it works great this soon out of the gate, surprised actually. I'm certain they will continue to improve it.

They probably should have allowed more advanced users to customize the res and bitrate, but they probably just set it to this so streaming is easy for all. It takes pretty good upload speed to do 720p and good bit rate, which people probably new to streaming wouldn't realize and then would complain their stream stutters too much.

If the ps4 does allow custom res/bitrate options, then I take it back, but I don't think it does.

No twitch doesn't have a higher res on their servers than the source video upload. They also won't be archiving/storing any ps4 streams as that would take a huge amount of server space, so they decided not to do that for most likely monetary reasons.

Twitch offers 4 quality options for viewers. To give an example from usual PC streams.

Source - This is the streamer's original stream settings in xsplit/obs, etc. For example 720p res and 3000kb/s bitrate or 1080p res for people with balling comps and internet upload speeds.

Then twitch takes the original source vid and transcodes them to offer 3 more quality settings.

High - 720p and dunno bitrate

Med - 480p and dunno bitrate

Low - 360p and dunno bitrate.

Back in the summer twitch changed the labeling of their quality options which cause a big fuss because they initially cut out 480p as an option.

Luckily, they changed their minds due to the internet backlash.

ITT people are quite satisfied with 960x540.

If X1 is the same, I'm going to be getting an external capture device. BUT, having it built-into the system is rather convenient.

I'm pretty certain Twitch Archives PS4 streams.

Well I take 960x540 since I'm on a 250GB cap Internet cap. I didn't think I would use twitch but I've watches others play to see what other games look like.

No twitch won't be archiving PS4 streams. At least right now. The wording here leaves it open for the future.

Twitch SupportVerified account ‏@TwitchTVSupport FYI - PS4-to-Twitch broadcasts are not archived as noted here: http://bit.ly/1gSugqF

Can I archive my livestreams on Ustream or Twitch?
At this time, livestreams will not be archived for further viewing on Ustream or Twitch. However, this feature will be supported in the future. Please follow PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation.com for news regarding PS4’s video services following launch.

I'm also on a 250gig monthly cap so watch all my twitch streams at 480p cause 720p and above eats up bandwidth too fast.

lol yea funny that article comes out. I was just checking out the App and came upon some girl using Playroom. She was sitting in bed eating chicken nuggets while those white robots danced around her. Then I found another one of someone's Thanksgiving part and everyone standing around looking at the camera and drinking.

I like to stream with no one watching....
I'm following you on Twitch but the couple times I've got the notification on my phone you're done streaming by the time I check it out. Was trying to check out some Ass Creed.

It's really good. My only gripe with it is all the Assassin Creed parts, should have just been a pirate game.
Yea I was talking with a friend a couple nights ago about this. Not sure why they just didn't start a new IP based on pirates and leave AC alone. That said, I've decided I'm done with the AC series. I had 100% completed AC1, 2, and was attempting to do the same with Brotherhood when they announced Revelations and became a yearly title. Too bad because I enjoyed the games but I'm not doing this yearly.
