Do you think its true

It is just processing time, right ? so basically the PS4 is capable of processing things 100% faster ? which in real world wouldn't equate to much difference unless that time is already significantly big.

Or have I got it all wrong ?

I don't know that's why I'm asking.

You already know the proper response will most definitely be

In Computer hardware world, it is generally accept that (when unlock) if a machine can run a game runs at 60fps (avg) vs 30fps (avg) (all others things equal), it has twice the performance, same with resolution (to run the game). Obviously, they need to run at least a few demanding games, or some demos they benchmark software created for the very purpose, to make a more fair assessment to the hardware. You cannot use any single game.

FPS is one of the the most common benchmark for comparison. But its not totally conclusive when fps are locked, so in reality the FPS can go higher than the locked FPS.

But of course, some may argue that some games, the resolution are closer; 720 vs 900p or something, & there are also game that runs same Res/FPS. But like I said, unless FPS is not locked, its hard to tell, how hard the game is pushing the system.

My personal guess is the performance differences are somewhere between 30-60%.

But having said that, there is diminishing return. For instance 2X the performance does not equal to looking 2 times better.

You need approciately 4X (2^2) performance to see an overall jump in visuals, as Computer graphics work in power of 2.
512x512, 1024x1024, 2048x2048, are the standard texture sizes. So the next jump from a 512x512 texture is 1024x1024, which is 4 times the pixels count. Same with meshes. Every subdivsion of a mesh, output appropriately 4x the amount of polygon. Imagine a polygon as a quad (4 sided), when divide, you get 4 quads, & most meshed are design in quads.

This is especially so with Multiplatform games. So you get a slightly difference RES/FPS to separate the performance difference, without having to do a lot of extra work to make higher density polygon for more powerful hardware. Which is why cross gen games doesn't look significantly better on next gen console. 5k polygon character model is always 5K polygon model. The esy thing is to use higher res textures, & pump up the resolution/fps. In reality, most artist make the higher res texture, say 2048x2048, then resize to fit the hardware. resize is only a click of a button.

Sony's own developers say their console is better shocker!!!
You can think of it both ways really.

One like you mention, they are sony developer, & maybe inflated the performance a little.

Or 2,

since they are not worry of burning bridges with MS, unlike many Multiplafform developers, they can be more vocal and without reservation then a multiplatform developer, who need to be more careful with saying any negativity about their Console makers.

Overhead performance, so they mean things like OS, keeping track off your friend-list, the Snap function? As all of that is overhead for the game, and it makes sense that that performance is better with the PS4 seeing how the machine has a smaller OS footprint than the XbOne. This for instance can be seen in the CPU comparison chart from the Substance engine. Here it is quite clear that the CPU just has more to do with the Xbox One's operating system(s) than the one running on the PS4.

Now this of course will be turned into a Fanboy slug fest by Sony Pony's and XBots. After all to them it feels like they actually stormed the beaches of Normandy, had to be in pride marches to stay safe from bashers and lynchers (while still using the N word and several gay slurs as insults themselves on a regular basis) and feel more persecuted than the combined feeling of every downtrodden minority in this wonderful and splendorous decorated blue marble we call our home (I keep saying guys, God is one of us on the Fab side of the force ;)).

They will also not fully know what "overhead" means, and will just go with percentages, posting GIFS of Antonio Banderas (cute guy, but I doubt they post them for that reason) and being general nuisances. In fact most will now state that the PS4 is twice as powerful as the XbOne, will post several Cerny Gifs or Cloud images and scream "Have you seen Titanfall" and "Dat Balance".

When really it seems he is mostly talking about the general overhead the systems have. I really am not saying one is better than the other, I couldn't care less really seeing how I rather just invest in my Wii U, but it is just bugging me that these fanboys keep taking specs and stats wrong like this while calling it "math". It feels a bit like these people are trying to do my job and insulting me while at it. Yes the PS4 looks like a better gaming system if you look at the raw specs, but one doesn't just compare percentages indicating the amount of ROPS each GPU has and says one is twice as powerful as the other. There is a bit more to it than that.

Although I do agree that MS's APU is a very fill rate limited silicon, and maybe should have gone for a 32ROP set up as well. But I cannot look into their internal documentation, maybe they did the design and it really is a thing Developers just have to come to terms with.

Sorry for my rant, and I hope I haven't turned anybody off of playing his PS4 or XbOne. Just have some fun with your games and I'll do it as well with my magical plastic Wonderbox filled with magical entrails of plastic, gold, silicon and wires :).

This is not based on what an Uncharted developer said, contrary to the thread title. It is based on what "industry insider Ahsan Rasheed, who goes by the handle “thuway” on NeoGAF" said.

And that's why I'm closing the thread. There's no need for threads based on what some "insider" famous on GAF posted, especially when it's just a single line without anything to back it up. That'll just lead to yet another round of the same old same old.
