Uncharted Game director Leaves N.D.

Some of these guys must've been doing the same kind of thing for a decade or more. Even when it's enjoyable, it's stressful, working at such a high-profile studio, on games that attract so much attention. Budgets are getting bigger, expectations are really high ... and meanwhile you're feeling like, "Okay, Uncharted 4... Here we go again..." These are creative individuals at the top of their game. Maybe they're just tired of working on the same stuff they've already worked on for years. Maybe they just want to work on something entirely new.

It might be the "BS factor," too. All companies generate their unique forms of BS (e.g., office politics, ignorant coworkers, petty bickering, pointless meetings, arbitrary goals, etc.). I also know that the more successful and financially secure you get, the less willing you are to put up with the BS. So maybe the BS got to them, and they decided they didn't need the headaches.

I'm just speculating, of course.

I am a creative individual at the top of my game, & been doing the same profession (moving up the rank, yes, but same profession) since I graduated like 10 years ago (damn I feel old). I should be ashame of myself for staying put.

Tomorrow I am going to quit my job, then write a blog about why I need to move on a different venture, as a creative indivdual on top of my game, I am obligated to do so :D

Ok, Ok, just kidding.

It's only funny if you work at Pizza Hut moving to Papa John's

So he leaves from a Sony funded studio to a different Sony funded studio. I'll guess Sony is cutting budgets and you're going to see more of this in all the Sony funded studios. People want the same money or ore and it's not going to happen. NG is Sony funded right?

Giant Sparrow are independent and US was originally a XNA title till Sony stepped in. Sony own ND they don't own GS.

Sony does have a 3-game contract with Giant Sparrow, though. Their first game was Unfinished Swan, which I thought was great. Looking forward to their next. Glad they're getting some top-level talent.

big deal a guy who worked on one game lift or they lit him go as they no longer needed him. who knows people quit company's all the time. If it's long term worker who is a key member by all means it may mean something but seems if ND cleaning crew quits it'll make news now.

Man, everyone's come and go all the time in video game business. Crazy.

It's normal for people to leave and pursue something else after a big project.

No its not god damn it. I even hear ND's janitor is unhappy with all the s*** he has to put up with at ND. I hear he may take his mop and go work with flynn at MS.

5 'higher up' depatures in a couple months indicates somethin' is up over there, but who knows... similar situation at epic late last year with alot of the bigger guys there... a chance for some of the mid to lower level guys to step up i guess....

It's obvious they are restructuring and rebooting Uncharted 4. That would explain the decision to release TLOU for the PS4 as they probably have a bunch of technical people playing Foosball while they wait for the creative team to settle from the ashes. I think ND will be fine though as they can surely attract AAA new talent.

I guess this means Uncharted 4 will be a disaster or Naughty Dog is just plain shutting down. Thanks for the heads up Mcmasters.

That seems like a fairly alarmist assumption. A few high up departures wouldn't shut down a super successful studio like Naughty Dog...
