Uncharted Game director Leaves N.D.

Funny ppl trying to downplay this, obviously the world isn't ending at sony, but to say this is daily mail is downright funny considering the rank and talent some of these ppl have. Pretty big news I think considering ND's next game is supposed to be heavy into development.

Want to know what's going down ? This is what's going down....

Stig and his team spent almost 100 million dollars on a game that failed every QA test that took. The game sucked. They s***canned the game and a lot of the people involved. They offered Stig a spot on barlog’s project – he didn’t want to go from game director to something lesser so he quit.

This makes sense, right? s***ty game, money wasted, people fired, head guy leaves out of ego? I mean that all makes sense.

Amy Hennig has creative differences about the direction that UC4 should go in. Egos swell, she leaves. She’s happy, she will make another studio much better when she gets there. Justin Richmond, an ally of Hennig’s, gets an offer he can’t refuse from Riot. He leaves.

These things happen. Naughty Dog is going to be fine. UC4 will still be awesome. Riot will be better with the pickup of Richmond and whoever gets Hennig will be better off. The sky isn’t falling.

Guerilla Cambridge is working on a vita game that is s*** and won’t sell. They slim down as they retool for another project.

Again – this isn’t new. This happens a lot.

The director of Driveclub doesn’t deliver the game on time. Given more time the game still needs work. He is replaced.

Wouldn’t you replace him? Wouldn’t you s***can stig’s project that cost them almost 100 mil and had nothing of value to show for it? In fact they should have done it two years ago. The fact they let it go this far is a testament to how much they believed in him after GoW 3.

And all of this is happening before the fiscal year ends. Is sony trimming fat? Of course. Sony corporation is not in a great spot. So they are tightening up a bit. But a lot of people are connecting dots that don’t need to be connected. Hennig/Richmond is about creative differences and ego. Stig is about wasted money and time. Col Rogers (driveclub) is about failing to deliver. Taken on their own they all make sense. Combine them together and you get glenn beck with a chalkboard.

And Jack Tretton was about money and inability to move up. He will make more money and have more power somewhere else – something Sony simply could not offer him. s*** happens.

It’s the same with the xbox department guys. People move around. People leave for other companies. s*** happens.

Amazing how things turn out.

It's more funny all the people who don't even own a Sony console being so concerned for their 1st parties futures.

Its not some expensive high end PC or anything. Its already dirt cheap brand new, so most ppl here are potential buyers even if they don't own a ps4 now. So thats enough to be concerned.

That's a bunch of BS.. He did deliver a proper apoogy and he did admit it's his own fault.. :)

It starts out like this:

I f***ed up. There’s no two ways around that. I f***ed up in multiple ways. It wasn’t just one f***up – it was a series of them, some because I’m stupid and some because I didn’t know what was going on.

click link to read on his blog...

Internet protip; when people 'don't bother' to link to something... It's usually just because they don't want you to know all sides of the story.

What about this then

When i woke up this morning I didn’t go to gaf. I had no idea the post was still going. I had no idea that Col had posted there. I had no idea about anything, really.

He's still lying. He knows his tweets lead to 30 page neogaf threads, he knew Col had posted on Neogaf and he ignored it.

(I never linked to his blog, because I don't want to give him page views  )

Maybe he is lying maybe he isn't, but how would you know? Maybe he doesn't just sit around checking gaf every 5 minutes maybe he does. Really who gives a crap. Why are we talking about this guy anyway?

Oh come now, you know what I mean. It's not the potential PS4 buyers in this thread fanning this tiny flame. Truth is, for all any of us know, these layoffs could be a good thing in the end for the health of Sony's 1st parties.

I'm speculating that he is lying because he has a history of lying

I find the cult of insiders interesting, if you don't then there is no need for you to get involved :tounge:

Load's of people lies - sometimes on purpose, sometimes accidentally..
The cult of liers are interesting aswell..

Forinstance, not long ago, some dude right here on this forum said that statements like:

''i f***ed up'
'i f***ed up multiple ways'
'it wasn't just one f***up - it was a series of f***ups'
'i'm stupid'

basically means that someone is saying
'it wasn't his fault'..

would you classify that person as someone with a history of lying? ;)

I think there is a slight exaggeration with all the things going on at Sony at the moment. What they are doing is rebooting or restructuring studios who have either not been productive enough, haven't brought in the sales or need some new blood. We saw this with Japan Studio first, Alan Becker from SSM moved over there and cancelled like 40 individual projects and they seem to be heading in the right place. They've got Knack out, regardless of its quality they've already got 1 game out this gen which is much more than they could muster last gen. We should have the The Last Guardian and more games to come from Studio Japan.

Then it was SCEA's turn and the most obvious studio under-performing in terms of productivity is Sony Santa Monica. 2 games last gen for such a big dev team is poor, especially since GOW: Ascension was anything but a hit. Stig's I.P didn't happen it sucks but that studio needs to be more far more productive for its budget. Regarding ND they had plenty of people leave before Uncharted and look where they are now; they will be fine. The other SCEA studio's have been seemingly untouched as they've been productive and got sales in.

Now it is SCEE's turn with Evolution, Guerilla Cambridge and SCE London having a shake up. I think Evolution didn't need one but perhaps they needed less programmers so they sacked them off since the PS4 is easier to use or hopefully Driveclub is getting close to being finished so they got rid of the people they don't need. For Cambridge Mercenaries bombed but that's due to the Vita so they're unlucky. Now SCE London are the studio in Sony's catalogue which have been needing a goddamn sort out since early last gen. So much promise in the Getaway and 8 Days thrown away for what? Wonderbook and Singstar? It's a freaking joke, especially for a studio of around 400 people. They should be the studio in the UK and Europe bringing out the best and biggest games not some garbage. If they can get them to do the Getaway and new I.P like Eight Days then Sony can significantly bolster their exclusives list.

IMO SSM, Sony Japan and SCE London were Sony's worst studio's last gen and have thankfully been shaken up because they can't have another gen where their output is minimal.

Reread my posts liar!

He apologized and then included a very big but, multiple buts infact.(He didn't know Col's son was ill, he didn't know Col had posted on Neogaf)
So he apologized then tried to make excuses.

Did you back his indiegogo campaign btw?

I can't see the excuses..
He let rumours cloud what he knew to be fact..
Most of us have all done it, at some time or another, drawn our own conclusions despite not knowing all the facts, thinking we had the facts. :)
He claimed he didn't do it on purpose, but that were - as he said - beside the point - it were his fault - and he acknowledge that.

The director & whoever involve in time planning of Last Guardian should be the first be be fired.

Maybe that why the game is forever delayed. Because once deliver, many may be shown the door. At least if its a western studio.

Fumito Ueda left Sony in 2011, he is working on contract until The Last Guardian is finnished.
Team Ico is a very small studio tough, leaving a huge chunk of the work to be done by Japan Studios, wich has also made several other games during LG-production.
Project Siren (makes Siren games, and Gravity Rush) and Gavin Moore's team (Pupeteer) were heavily involved in Last Guardian until Japan studios got a new boss, and turned them back to their own projects

Those are Famous Mortimer's words. Kind of weird that you wouldn't make any indication of that in your post?

yeah not everyone has the same agenda obviously, but for the most part anyone here is a potential ps4 buyer. I've seen the most rampant fanboys convert many times, so its possible. Not to mention that doesn't make up the majority here by any means. Most people here are biased obviously, but not rampart loyalist.

lol @ the layoffs potentially being a good thing, yes I suppose during the middle of development having something
like that happen could be if you really want to stretch and look at that way.

Corrinne Yu leaves 343i and its the end of the world, all these sony developers leave, everything is fine :p

Yeah, I just saw that. "Libel for the sake of internet fame" was a good way of putting it. I don't keep up with the GAF "insiders," but this FM guy really got some things wrong, at others' expense.

Personally, I don't get all the drama around this (the ND/Sony stuff, I mean). Two high-level people left a big studio. Ok, so that's reason for some concern about the quality of ND's future games. It could go the other way, too, of course, since fresh blood can bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm. We won't know until Uncharted 4, which is probably a couple years away. Cries of "There are clearly problems with Sony" or "ND is a troubled company" seem quite silly to me. The other Sony departures have been fairly standard, expectable stuff.

I can't tell if all the drama around this is the usual internet forum over-reactivity and negativity, or whether it's just meat for hungry Xbox fanboys. A mix of both, I suppose.

I did....but not clear enough....also by the time i posted that, it was all over the net so i figured most ppl would know where it came from.

I didn't see any indication at all that you were quoting, just a copy and paste of his words, with no attribution, no mention of his name, no indication that you were quoting, no link, no nothing. And not everyone follows the drama around GAF "insider" posts.

I wrote Sony insider@Neogaf ...that not clear enough for ya ? Didn't mention his name...didn't think i had to since he was the last "insider" left@gaf.

Not to belabor this too much, but you said that ("sony insider at GAF") in a later post, not the one I quoted and was referring to.

Meh, I appreciate that he apologized profusely, but that he made those excuses makes me not appreciate it as much as I should lol

I posted what i pasted in 2 parts due to my ipad....didn't know it was against the "this is how you post on the net law".... I'll be super extra careful next time, So it won't burden you so much as it clearly has.

lol, whatever man. You've got a lot of excuses. This is just basic communication skills.

Also, the stuff you are copying and pasting from the GAF "insider" turned out to be pretty flawed.

Entering the text into a quote, using quotation marks, typing, "this is from ____", or posting a link is hard as f*** man, I totally understand. Especially with an iPad;.. any of those actions take upwards of like 5 seconds, too much to bother IMO. Anyone bothering to read your post should have taken the time and read through 80 page threads on different forums so they could figure it out before reading this one.

I own a PS4 and think the exodus isn't a great thing. I liked Stig's GOW game. Amy Henning is a great writer.

But change can be good as you say.

Maybe the director left Naughty Dog because there was nothing left to accomplish. I mean, Naughty Dog is the best studio in the world right now. Kinda like how Jack left Sony. How come nobody thought of that? :D
