Why a movie of the month club?
Outside of video games movies seems to be the biggest medium we have in common as a community. Rather than quick reviews I felt it would be a fun change of pace to watch films and discuss them on a more detailed level.

What should be discussed in the thread?
Everything should be discussed but make each post worthwhile. We will discuss the dialogue, the acting, the cinematography, comparisons to other films, etc. Everything about the movie should, and hopefully will, be discussed.

Think essay when making a post in this thread.

This isn't necessarily a review thread. You can obviously post your impressions of the film but don't make it the largest part of your post.

Posts that add nothing to the discussion or veer off topic into other subjects will be removed.

How will movies be chosen?
Since I see a lot of movies my first criteria is it something I haven't seen? I look at movies recommended to me on various movie sites. I have a large to watch list on IMDB that I frequently look at, update and complete films from. I then choose films that I feel will garner vast discussions and promote back and forth dialogue between forum members.

The films won't always be films I haven't seen or haven't seen in a while. I will most definitely choose movies that are main stream that many have seen but feel the our film discussion community would enjoy discussing. I will probably alternate each month between movies I haven't seen and movies that will encourage a great discussion amongst us. The movies will be domestic, foreign, action, dramatic... Everything.

Ahhh....A great excuse for some nap time.

I'll give it a watch middle of next week. If memory serves, I didn't enjoy this movie all that much on first viewing. Lets see if that remains.

This was one of my more enjoyable films from that year. It's Fincher after all.....

Well, Fincher is very hit and miss for me. Stuff like Se7en and Fight club are hits, but Alien 3 and Benjamin Button aren't. Not a huge fan of social network either.

Never watched Benjamin Button, but The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was just okay. Loved The Social Network and this film tho.

Hey don't forget about The Game guys! Gonna see if I can get this back from a friend.

I've seen this a few times over the years. Watched it again end of last summer it was on Netflix. I still really enjoy it. Its a very well made cop/killer/thriller. I just found the whole process of them trying to figure out who was doing these crimes interesting. And the cast keep it entertaining. One of the better movies of this type. Now I wanna watch it again.

So, watched this today. Have to say I enjoyed it a lot more this time round. Although, still think it is a little long winded.Really good performances all round, forgot Robert Downey Jr was in this, but his performances was very good. Although Gyllenhaal steels the show.

Love some of the Time elapsing scenes, like the building being built to signify the passing year. I do have some issues though.

1. The cops/justice system; you would think with it being such a high profile case it would be easier to get round red tape to catch this person.
2. Robert Graysmith; seems to make some stupid choices which common sense would seem to over-rule in normal life. Like when he Follows the movie guy, and then, even after learning it is his handwriting, he follows him to the basement.

Maybe that is nit-picking. Maybe it can be put down to the era. Maybe the can be put down to his obsession to solve the puzzle.

Overall though very good. Am Glad this came up and I took the chance to watch it again.

menace-uk- It definitely comes down to his obsession. You have to remember, that obsessions ruined his marriage. He chose that over his family.

As far as catching him, they came close when he killed the cabbie. The methods of tracing back then were laughable. It's been what, 50 years since and not much new has come about. Then you're also dealing with multiple agencies that didn't want to cooperate for whatever reason.

As with all Fincher films, Zodiac was beautiful to look at. He creates amazing atmosphere in all of his films. He's able to work well with his cinematographers to make the lighting, camera and atmosphere characters.

A really interesting approach Fincher used with Zodiac was that each time the Zodiac Killer was on screen a different actor was used each time. He said he did this because of how many different suspects, and 'sightings,' there were, and nobody had any clue what the Zodiac Killer looked like. It's a simple idea that speaks volumes to the creativity of Fincher.

Zodiac, along with Se7en and The Social Network, rank very high on my list of favorite films. Because of watching Zodiac again I was made aware that Fincher has a new movie coming out that I somehow didn't know about, Gone Girl!

That different actor for the Zodiac is cool. I didn't notice it when watching and didn;t know about till now, very nice though.

Gone Girl, yeah. Looks pretty good. I thought it was Directed by Affleck for a while
