Unreal Engine 5 will empower game developers and creators across all industries to realize next-generation real-time 3D content and experiences with greater freedom, fidelity, and flexibility than ever before.

Join us at 10am EDT on May 26 as Chance Ivey, Senior Technical Designer at Epic Games and Galen Davis, Producer/Evangelist for Quixel at Epic Games provide a first look at new game development tools and workflows that will be available with Unreal Engine 5 before exploring a new sample project.

I was about to post this. Was kinda shocked earlier when it hadn't been yet. Looks incredible.

I will say that I don't think it's a coincidence that these UE 5 demos don't take place in environments rich in foliage. I want to see UE5 handle trees and grass. Or even more dynamic environments. So far it's rock and desert.

Want more! I love the atmosphere settings too...

At native 1080p resolution and 30fps too reconstructed to 4k (so I guess 1080p is okay again here. Where all the people laughing at Returnal at :p )

I imagine future UE5 games will be running anywhere from native 1080p to dynamic 1440p/30fps.

That's the only way we can get more increased visual fidelity than current games.

Is this on Xbox Series X?
Yes

That’s what I’ve been saying 😂

Well I know people were against it when Quantum Break did it 😜
"Quantum Break's 1080p output is a temporal reconstruction from four previous 720p 4x MSAA frames. This approach gets us high pixel quality in combination with complex shading and effects, allowing us to achieve a cinematic look. However, varying sample counts between passes and temporal upscalingmakes talking about resolution, as it is traditionally understood, complicated in the case of Quantum Break. Since the start of Quantum Break's development, the most important thing for Remedy and Microsoft has been delivering a compelling gaming experience with superior artistic quality. This is what Remedy is renowned for. We're confident that we have achieved this, and can't wait to hear what fans think on April 5 when they play the game."

IIRC, Remedy was the one who went out of their way to state Quantum Break would run at 1080p native 🤔

Yup, found it. I guess people were more upset from that statement since they were expecting one thing but got something else entirely. 1080p has 225% more pixels.

Ever since the Xbox One and PS4 launched in 2013, it’s been clear that both consoles have problems maintaining a steady 30 FPS at 1920×1080 (1080p). Microsoft’s Xbox One has particular trouble with these settings and often runs at a lower resolution than its PS4 equivalent. Quantum Break was supposed to break this trend. The game was developed by Remedy Entertainment, the same studio behind Max Payne 1 & 2 and the critically acclaimed Alan Wake. Last year, Remedy went out of its way to state that Quantum Break on the Xbox One would run at 1080p native resolution, with some effects rendered at a lower resolution to maintain a steady 30 FPS.

Either way, resolution isn't the most important. It's the visual image quality that matters more, that and the game performance. Resolution is less important than those two. You see here the UE5 demo released today is 1080p native resolution but it looks gorgeous. Imagine that ;)

I wasn’t talking about the Remedy claim. I was talking about how certain people downplayed reconstruction to a higher resolution.

Yeah seeing all rocks again was a big letdown to me, it just seems like this would be the easiest way to show off lighting and not have to worry about shadows, physics etc. I too want to see either a forested area or even some kind of city or village, also some water and rain effects. It lacks the same punch as the first demo because we've already seen them show something that looked like this before and frankly the end of the first demo when she was gliding around was more impressive than fighting this "robot"

Don't remember that part. I just remember hearing about it being rendered natively at a lower resolution than expected and people were disappointed about that.
