Marcia Wallace, the voice of Edna Krabappel on The Simpsons, has died.

Simpsons executive producer Al Jean said in a statement on Saturday that her death is a terrible loss.

He says Wallace's 'irreplaceable character' will be retired from the show.

The longtime TV actress' credits ranged from playing a wise-cracking receptionist on The Bob Newhart Show to appearances on Candice Bergin's Murphy Brown.

As long as it's supporting characters like Phil Hartman and Marcia Wallace, the show can go on. But if Hank Azaria were to go, that would be it. I don't think the public could accept a new voice for any of the main Simpson family.

Actually, it was supposed to end a while ago. I remember writer's saying one of the proposed endings was Maggie talking for the first time. Another one was having Krusty the Klown turn out to be Homer, obviously this was never done, but if you see Krusty without make-up, him and Homer look pretty similar. Show won't end anytime soon until it becomes a big burden on Fox, financially speaking. As far as I know, it's still one of the most popular shows Fox has.

If anyone has actually seen every episode they deserve a medal. That's commitment.

I watched it religiously from 1997-2001. The show's quality tanked in 2002.

The older episodes still make me laugh.

I haven't even seen all the episodes from the first season alone. Simpsons is one of those shows that I want to collect, but it's too big of a meal for me. I got a couple of them though. Don't know where they are, but they are in the vicinity of my house.
