We need to prove that DOOM is worth reviving, admits Bethesda
"Nobody will assume that this is going to be awesome."

Doom, then. Or as brand directors may prefer, DOOM. Bethesda and franchise creator id Software have been silent on the subject for some months, following the announcement that Wolfenstein: The New Order would ship with beta keys for the Doom Xbox One beta. That could have something to do with eyebrow-raising allegations about protracted development difficulties.

At the time of the aforesaid allegations, Bethesda conceded that "an earlier version of Doom 4 did not exhibit the quality and excitement that Id and Bethesda intend to deliver and that Doom fans worldwide expect". The company's vice-president of marketing Peter Hines has said a little more on the subject to MCV. Apparently, Bethesda is now much more confident about Doom's prospects following the successful rebooting of Wolfenstein.

"Let's be honest, it was a bit of a tarnished brand," Hines observed of the latter. "And we knew that. The last couple of games were either 'ok' or 'not great'. It wasn't a franchise where people were desperate for the next one. Wolfenstein isn't Uncharted. We knew this would take some explaining. But developer Machine Games has now untarnished the IP." For reference, we treated Wolfenstein: The New Order to a rabble-rousing 9/10.
"We view that similarly to Wolfenstein," Hines said of Doom. "Because it's been so long since the last Doom game. We are going in as if we need to prove ourselves all over again. We have no free passes. Nobody will assume this is going to be awesome.
"We are going to have to prove that this is something that's going to be fun and different that you need to pay attention to. That has to be our default position, we can't be: 'It's Doom, of course you're going to play it'. But that just makes us work harder."
The game's one and only trailer suggests that demons are back on the menu. Watch out for more at QuakeCon this month.

When Doom on the 360 came around it was plagued by project development issues and now here we are again with rumors that once project the next gen project has run in trouble and that possibly they have even started a full redesign. Doom should just be left a classic game. Forgot about another attempt to relaunch it.

f*** Doom! Just get your asses moving and give us Fallout 4, please :D

I hope it ends up being awesome. But you always worry when the original creators are no longer in the building.

I liked Doom 3 though. Not a classic like the originals, but fun.

I like how they said that the last few Wolfenstein games were not good, the only one that wasn't good was WOLFENSTEIN. RTCW and Wolf:ET were amazing games and games that still cannot to this day be touched IMHO.
