Wi-Fi Router problem

I'm at my girlfriend's parents house and we had a bunch of devices connected to Wi-Fi.
I wanted to connect my 3DS and I used the WPS button, which connected the 3DS just fine but now nothing else can connect to the router any more.
I've turned it off, waited and turned it on again several times, with no luck.
However the 3DS is still fine, even after I 'forgot' the connection and re-established it.

Anyone know anything about something like this?
Using a WPS button causing a router to kick off previous connections permanently?

I would assume that WPS will override any other config already in place. So if they were using say, A WPA secured network, then it would no longer be usable. This is just a guess though.

Does the 3DS have an assigned password to this router in the settings? I wonder if other devices could try that password?

Just a random guess that pushing that button generated a new password and killed the old one. The 3DS picked up the new password but the other devices are still trying to authenticate with the old password.

If you find no better options or ideas, you might try a router 30-30-30 hard reset as a last resort. That would basically return it to the default factory settings like when it was new out of the box. So somebody would have to redo the security settings and setup the password.

Note: I would only do this if the router came from the store. If the router came from their Internet Provider you should call that company before messing with their equipment that much.

I never use that stuff on a router. Just reset it and set up everything manually.

Also you can change their wireless network name to "your daughter is hot" :)

I used the wps button because nobody knew the password or had it written down.
In the end I did the 30-30-30 reset, but funnily enough, now the 3DS is the only device that can't get online now.
Anyway, thanks for the info guys.

You should be able to get the password via the router settings in a web browser. You know, the 192.168.xx.xx deal.

Yep, just google the default password for the router and to to 192.168.1.1 and fix everything.

Not all of them are.1.1. Some brands use different variations. Mine for example is 2.1. Also, aren't default passwords for all routers "Password" ? everyone I have owned was.

Well... the important thing is the family has their s*** back on their internet lol.

However, it's probably all set to default login. I wouldn't be surprised if you could find the username and password on the bottom of the router box. If it even needs a password.

Also, I wonder if the 3DS needs to have the login stuff edited or deleted. Maybe the WPS thingy created a password in the 3DS it no longer needs.

Yeah, I am not well versed in installing wi-fi, but I figured out how to set up the security stuff. Login was 'admin' and the default password was 'admin', according the the sticker on the bottom of the router.
I had to ask the gf for help because the security console page is all in Chinese.

As for the 3DS, it's weird. I deleted the old connection details and tried to establish a new connection and used the password rather than use the WPS again. It connects to the router, but can't get online for some reason. Anyway, it doesn't matter, I only wanted to download a limited-time offer on the Nintendo E-shop.

So if anyone has a 3DS, get on quick and download the free Zelda game! It's quite good.

It may have been a firewall issue. You may have needed to forward some ports.

Actually I've never, ever seen a default password of "password". :) Ours is usually a blank username with a password of "admin". Much, much more secure. ;)

My default password before I changed it on my router was something like Purplehat23.. I found that pretty amusing.
