The expansion launched on Thursday November 13th. Since then the majority of servers have been in locked status with queues sometimes lasting 6 to 8 hours, with reports of players waiting hours to get in only to be disconnected and put at the end of the queue again. I personally have only been able to play for about 10 minutes since it launched, with my brief time being interrupted with a "World Server down" error. Have not been able to put up with the 6 hour wait times since.

This is all despite several emergency maintenance windows and apparently the addition of more hardware and softening of player caps per server. So far it's been to no avail based on feedback on the forums. The outrage has been so bad that Reddit has temporarily shut down their wow subforum.

Reports from people that have actually be able to play is that the content is quite good - possibly the best we've seen so far - but only time will tell how long players will wait around for Blizzard to increase capacity before moving on to the next thing, especially with so many games released recently and up through the holidays.

Reporting back in ... seems that most servers have seen their queue problems subside, but there are still a handful of servers with 4000+ queues starting from late afternoon through the night. At the rate people are or aren't logging off, people are waiting for anywhere from 4 to 6 hours based on reports. Also it appears that a number of people are going AFK in low level instances while under attack to avoid being AFK disconnected and therefore going into the queue. This is exacerbating the problem. Blizzard is aware of the issue but so far does not have a resolution, nor are they (yet) offering free character xfers to other realms. There is still a bit of fury going on.

I play on Zul'jin myself which is one of the high pop impacted servers. I had a day off yesterday so I hopped on in the morning, before the queues started up, and I can tell you this:

The expansion is awesome. Flat out awesome. All kinds of Warcraft 2 & 3 lore, you get your own garrison with peons gathering resources that you can use to upgrade buildings ... you can gather followers through quests in the world at large ... great graphics, interesting and varied zones, and outstanding storytelling. Tons of little conveniences added into the game with a big one taken away: no flying at level 100. It's not in the game. They *may* add it in a future patch. There's griping about that but a lot of people (myself included) appreciate the more hardcore (if you can call it that) approach of using ground mounts and flight paths. Makes it feel old school, personally I love it.

Seriously though, if they didn't have these capacity problems all you would hear about is how the expac is probably the best ever and has added a lot of that vanilla/TBC feel back to the game. Heavy lore emphasis, really nice graphics upgrades, great music and zone design. Blizzard did a hell of a job on the content.

I may get back into WoW. Loved the game. Took a long break, but have been missing the hell out of it.

Blizzard.....their games is like printing money.

I mean, due to monthly subscription fees....WoW probably generates more money that literally any individual game out there, including the behemoth, GTA 5.

Can you play WoW with the Xbox controller yet? What about some other sit in your lap trackball / keypad? I want to give this expansion a try but I cannot do it on a desk anymore. It needs to be from a comfy sofa in front of a nice big tele.

No, and you wouldn't want to.

there are way too many keyboard commands, shortcuts, etc to properly use a controller with this game.

You could always do what I do. Use a Razer Tararus with mouse on a laptop tray.

I'm at level 99 now and it feels like I barely tried to get there.

I've run many quests, I've run dungeons, crafted, archaeology, and I still have a full zone that I haven't seen yet, but will likely hit 100 before I get there.

But I'll still be motivated to go do the storylines after hitting 100 because some of the storylines reward you with garrison resources or followers. Having a lot of fun with this game, it's all just so fresh and interesting. Makes you wonder if they will continue to flesh Draenor out in future expansions and sort of put the old world on the backburner. Why come out with WoW 2.0, just keep adding on to the new world that features the upgraded graphics, new storytelling mechanics, etc.

Are the visuals redone even if you don't get the expansion? (I know with MMOs, you're all in the same game even if you don't get expansions)

Yes - new character models were introduced a few weeks before the game went live, and they are visible in all zones of the game.. However it's the newer zones in Draenor that feature the better textures, lighting, etc.

I would say they've spent a lot of time and effort making the game easier. Now when you get the game you get a free boost up to 90 so you can start right in Draenor. Not a bad move because once you are in Draenor it's kind of hard to go back to the older worlds (imo).

I got the base game for 5 bucks, but didn't get the expansion yet. Is the game pretty much easy now all the way up until higher levels, or just easy up until a certain point? Still VERY early in the game (level 7-, but am one shoting enemies without using any special attacks.

yes, it should stay pretty easy up to about Mists of Pandaria, then it may get a bit slower to level. They really want people in the new world so they're going to do whatever they can to speed your 1-85 leveling along. You may want to join a guild to get experience bonus (not sure if that's still in the game, but used to be pre Draenor).

Also, running dungeons via the Dungeon Finder is a great way to level up, too if you get tired of questing. That should become available for you around level 15.

Pruning abilities makes people jump back in...shocked. I mean who didn't love having 9 hotbars full of abilities and macros?! It seems Blizzard is starting to realize more isn't always better.

This is the first expack I have no intention of getting. I finally broke the curse and am free of this time sink. To be honest, it was mostly the other players that ruined it for me.

Played wow for about 5 years and loved it, my son just got the new expansion and says it's awesome. Thinking about getting back into it.
Got a monk, hunter, warrior and rogue all @ level 90 and a Druid @ 87
Rogue is my main though!!
