Not bad MS for only their 2nd console and look like ending in 2nd place again[can't see it over taking the Wii's numbers unless MS lower the price.

Worldwide Xbox 360 sales to retailers have surpassed 80 million units since the system launched in November 2005, according to internal Microsoft data.

Despite switching focus to Xbox One in the run-up to the console's release next month, Xbox chief marketing and strategy officer Yusuf Mehdi said in September that the company will continue to support Xbox 360 for years to come.

"If you look at Xbox 360 that platform [has] lasted for seven to eight years and it's going to go for another three years. It's incredibly profitable now in the tail," he said.

"We are going to continue to invest in Xbox 360 and the two devices can work in concert. So it isn't just like the day we ship Xbox One, Xbox 360 won't work, we will continue to support it. In fact, we are going to ship over 100 new games on Xbox 360, so you will still be able to play your games, just not on the same exact box."

I think all consoles will struggle to reach that high next gen.

If the 360 somehow manages to keep selling like it has, I think it could possibly hit 100 million units. Especially with a pricedrop or a mini 360.

As I said I can only see it over taking the Wii with a decent price drop but I really think MS missed their chance at this E3.

oh you better believe that price drop is coming. Specially after the Xbox One takes off. I will pick up the new redesigned model as soon as that price drops

MS Laid the smack down on all their ROOOO DEEEE POOOOOOOOOOOOOH CANDY A******************! Lol

All seriousness this is an amazing accomplishment!!!

I believe the 360 has already over taken the Wii in the US making it the 2nd highest selling console in US history.

Don't know about the US but its beaten the Wii in the UK and is not that far off from the PS2's numbers.

I was talking worldwide. I thought that was where we were going with this convo, but maybe not.

Considering it's at 80M and sales have fizzled out the past year, even with an X-mas boost, it seems a stretch 360 will ever hit 100M. Maybe it'll settle at 85-90M by the time MS drops it completely in a few years. Who knows.

Pretty good for MS. The original Xbox sold around 25M, so by the end of 360's lifecyle, they more than tripled their first foray into gaming. Good stuff.

As for software, they are already the best selling platform (or at least console platform).

I agree. I actually predicted the 360 would top out at around 90 million a few years into this generation. This will be its last big holiday and I expect it will do well considering the PS4 and XBOX ONE will both be sold out. Kind of crazy how the system has had an average of over 10 million units sold per year since it hit the selves back in 2005. That is very consistent. I expect it will last another 3 to 4 years and then get discontinued once sales fall below 1 million a year, kind of like what happened with the PS2.

If there was a 250 gig Kinectless model they would have no problems breaking a 100million I just don't see that happing though.

I think that if MS gives us a $99 Xbox 360 (without the 2 year contract), they could move from second place to first past the Wii. I think they are done selling the Wii now from what I heard.

The original Wii has stopped production not sure about the Wii mini? But I think that bombed.
