Xbox App party chat?

So I picked up Gears of War and was hoping to play with some Xbox bros. Join their chat no problem, but it says microphone not detected. I'm using a USB SteelSeries Sibera 350 and it works fine in Discord, Steam, multiple games, and I can see Windows itself detecting it. I found plenty of posts on the support forums but no replies. Anyone else have this issue or can test it with analog/USB mic to see if it works?

Pretty disappointing to say the least. MS really can't do anything PC gaming right.
 
I have the Steel Series Arctis 5 USB headset and it works great.

My old Plantronics Gamecom 780s work also.
 
Set it as your default playback and recording device.
 
It is set to default in both cases. I plugged in my Xbox controller and the Xbox mic works in that case. One thing I noticed was the properties for that showed the default format as 1 channel 24k Hz vs 2 channel 48k for my headset. Not sure if that would have anything to do with it but I would imagine your Arctis would be similiar to mine. Also jelly of that Arctis. Just bought these like 3 months ago :(

They are pretty nice. I wanted a headset that worked on PC and both consoles. They sound really good. Might snag a pair of the Arctis 7 wireless ones later if they get good reviews.

Well I ended up jerry rigging my Xbox controller/headset to get that to work. Hopefully Gears will allow me to use keyboard/mouse while controller is plugged in.
 
I'm pretty sure you can use kb/m while your controller is plugged in. Shoot me an invite if you ever want to play some Horde. I do my versus on Xbox because it seems like I can't ever find a PC match.
