Xbox July event thread

MS just need to let them starting doing non Halo stuff or a different game in the franchise.

A Mass Effect style Halo would be cool

Call me crazy but a 3rd person Halo game would be something I'd be interested in, especially with faster paced vehicle combat etc.

Damn Avowed is at least two years away maybe three. As is probably a lot of Microsoft's games.

They've been announcing games years out all generation yet some people still act like that's a Sony thing lol. How many games did they announce and then cancel earlier in the gen? We got 3 CGI trailers as game announcements the other day, only first party game that showed any actual gameplay footage was Halo I believe. That game Medium isn't even exclusive to the console it's just a console launch exclusive so people who think that it can only be done on Series X are going to in for a bit of a surprise.

Well they had Everwild and Grounded. But both were shown before.

I believe most of what's in this rumor is correct. There's also a lot of outsourcing right now.

That is why the show was such a disappointment for me. This show should have been about showing the technical abilities of the XSX HW and Halo needs to be at the very Top of the technical chain. I still can't get over how outdated those Halo Infinite textures looked.
Wasn't the July show case supposed to be the coming out party for the XSX HW?
I guess I was expecting Xbox (now in its 4th console gen) to really bring the heat :-/

It was supposed to be a coming out party for Xbox 1st party in general. Initially they were going to line up all their studios for this E3 and have a lot more vertical slices. Pandemic made them scrap those plans. It's also why Halo didn't get an updated demo.

Inexcusable they knew this show had to be right after the beating the public gave them after the previous show.
The denial is f***ing real with some of you.

Everwild wasn't gameplay though it was basically a cinematic, they don't know what he gameplay is yet lol, I hope that was at least a true representation of the graphics and not just a target render like that Stalker game. I'm have no doubt that the console could handle those graphics I just hope that it's actually far enough along that they at least really have that part of the game finalized.

There is no way most of those studios would have had gameplay ready to show yet without the pandemic, half of them were still finishing up other games that had to ship before they moved on to xbox related stuff and others just finished other projects not that long before..

Stop making excuses man there is no need for it, these studios are almost all AA at best and a few were basically indies, I told you guys before that they wouldn't have things ready to show yet. MS just bought most of them 2 years ago and some even later that's not enough time for a small studio to get a new project from conceptual phase to a gameplay reveal on new hardware that wasn't even complete through most of that period.

The stuff will come in time, the reason there seems to be so few games isn't because of the pandemic it's because MS took their sweet time when it came to building up their 1st party roster, they should have been doing that before the One X came out not a year later.

I got Oblivion vibes. Which I actually liked better than Skyrim.

I love them both but Oblivion doesn't get anywhere near enough love from the gaming community, I wish they had remade that game during this gen it could use a new coat of paint, fixing the pop in and constant mini loads would be great.

There were projects in development before Microsoft bought them. Some are in full production. They've hired an incredible amount of contractors. Relax with your victory lap.

Just about every studio uses outside contractors to help with the art that's noting new and it's not something that means they are moving faster than anyone else, Ubisoft has an entire studio they opened in China because of that. Again many of them are small studios that were still finishing up projects that still had to ship before they started work on xbox exclusive content, others JUST finished games not too long before. Full production in a small studio can still take years especially if they are aiming higher than what they typically do. Do you really believe that every studio was going to show something last week if it weren't for the pandemic? if so I'd like to know what you are smoking because I could use a little escape from reality right now myself.

There is a difference between outsourcing art and hiring thousands of contractors. People who have connections to Microsoft studios have been saying they've been investing insane amounts into big games (beyond Halo). You and Val have stuck to your guns that Game Pass won't allow that. This really isn't the thread to have that debate unless you saw evidence of that at the show. If you that's what the show said to you, stick with those specifics rather than generic trolling.

At the end of the day they built the first party, the games are coming, and we saw some of them. It’s not just talk anymore because Rare, Obsidian, and Ninja Theory have all shown a new game. We also know we are going to see the other studios at some point this year (maybe August).

As far as Covid messing up plans no one on either side can say anything definite. Outer Worlds shipped in October of last year and 12 people are working on grounded. We have no idea when work started on their new game

Many of their most important studios are based in the UK/England and they were on a way more strict lockdown then we were in the states.

They showed new games. I don’t need gameplay of things because guess what? At some point they will show it. Just like every game to ever be released ever. Every showcase from every publisher/company shows trailers now with little gameplay and then at some point every website is doing a month long blow out.

Outside of how Halo looked everything else is just BS arguing for no f***ing reason because we know how this goes. Everyone needs to stop acting like we are never getting gameplay or we are not going to learn more about a certain game.

You have nothing but "some guy told me" so back off on demanding evidence lol. You keep making excuse after excuse "place holder textures" then the studio comes out and says they got that area of the game prettied up and ready for it's premiere shooting down that theory. You keep making s*** up based on rumors you've read and acting like it's fact, I'm using common sense. Contractors are added a lot during most game development so again this is nothing special for these studios, people who are only needed for a short period of time come in and do their work and leave.

As far as investing in big games, yeah I'm sure buying Playground and staffing up a new team to work on fable did cost a lot of money and I hope that's money well spent, same with whatever the coalition is working on next or their new Santa Monica team. You also have to figure in that they need to make most of the games they are working on right now work on two generations of consoles and 5 separate machines, the three xbox one consoles (original X1 and X1S have slightly different speeds) and the rumored 2 Xbox "Series" consoles, that is going to take extra man hours.

The vast majority of the studios they bought aren't the types of studios that are going to put out AAA blockbuster titles and if you expect that from them you are going to be disappointed, Matt Booty even said they are going to focus on high end AA content, some xbox fans try to say that was taken out of context but if you read the whole conversation that's exactly what he said.

Just because you don't like the conversation doesn't mean it's trolling, nobody is coming in here saying "xbox sucks sony rules" or any crap like that, you just keep making excuses and get mad when they aren't taken as the truth.

When having a discussion with someone, don't accuse them of making "excuses" unless you're trying to make it personal. Stick to the material. I'm presenting info that I believe. Wasn't attempting to have an argument but if you want to poke holes in it, do it without making it personal and I'll do the same. Could my info be wrong? Sure. Who gives a s***? It's interesting stuff (that personally excites me as a Xbox gamer) coming from people who've been right about very specific things in the past so I wanted to share it with my forum buddies. "Winning" arguments on forums has never made my life better. So take it with a grain of salt...or not at all.

  • Undead has more than doubled in size from where they were in 2017
  • Rare has almost tripled from where they were in early 2017
  • Compulsion has been hiring and moved to a 100 person studio space, 2.5 times larger than when they were making WHF
  • Playground has doubled in size
  • The studios InXile, Obsidian and The Initiative have mostly hired creatives but otherwise their teams are relatively small because they're outsourcing the bulk of the development for their massive projects
    • They are all in Cali where contract developers are prevalent
  • A huge chunk of the 1000 devs working on Halo are contractors that came on this year to help with the sprint to make Xbox Series launch
  • Microsoft internal support studios have grown - like Simplygon
As an aside, we're getting into semantics but "placeholder textures"...it's just lower res textures. There's nothing wild about that concept. In an unoptimized build if you're looking to keep the frame rate up, you use the lower quality models and lighting. That demo ran at a smooth frame rate.

I feel sorry for the average employees working their hardest under what seems like conflicted leadership. They just don't seem to be able to hit the nail on the head and had a big chance to make a statement after an OK Sony showing.

Maybe it's just not meant to be? Or perhaps the cogs will all come together at some stage. But they need to do something to get a bit of positivity back into the brand in time for launch, not just talking about showing off games pass or smart delivery blah blah, something to make gamers stand up and take notice (in a good way)

Graphics aside, which I believe will look great by launch. Halo is still my most anticipated game alongside Cyberpunk 2077. I’ll just play 2077 first then jump on Halo when the ray tracing patch is implemented.

Undead didn't release state of decay 2 until may of 2018, they also spent a lot of time after that trying to fix it as well as adding additional content up until just under a year ago. Doubling the size of the studio gives them what 120 people? that's still not big by todays standards at all and they weren't focusing on State of Decay 3 the second MS bought them which was just under 2 years ago. It took them over 4 years to make state of decay 2 with that 60 person team, they supposedly want to do a AAA state of decay game, even doubling the size of the team isn't going to cut that much time off of development, it's still a relatively small team and it's going to take a lot more work to do a AAA version, again we only got a CGI trailer for that very reason.

I already discussed playground and btw there is no way Fable was ever going to be ready to show and that's why we got a CGI trailer for that too, that second team at playground is still fairly new and you don't go into full production at the start of a project, especially one that's totally new to your development house.

RARE was never small, they have always had different teams that focus on different projects.

I'm not trying to attack you personally and I don't want you to think that or take what I say that way but you keep trying to come up with these development terms that don't apply to something this late in its stage of development when it's also the companies biggest IP being shown off on a date that they chose. They got to show it over a month later than they would have had there been an E3 this year and we all knew in March that E3 wasn't happening so those people who keep spreading lies like "oh that was the E3 demo" online are not to be taken seriously. This is just roughly how the game is going to look, they may clean little things up here and there but whenever we see a game 3 months from launch that's pretty much what we are going to get and that's fine, this isn't the worst looking game ever by any stretch it's not even a bad looking game it's just very average at this point and when we keep hearing how the XSX is the most powerful console ever most people expect a little more of a visual punch.

You think what we say here among a few hundred gamers actually matters? That's delusional. You can yell at me all day (and I'm sure you will) and it won't change anything.

You think Phil Spencer gets daily reports on our threads? You're just bickering.

I'll let you in on a little secret - MS doesn't give a damn what I think. Neither does anyone here really... except you.
So because MS doesn't care you just settle and make up excuses for them. Got it.

If i'm just bickering then so is everybody else. Ok for you to spout your nonsense but a counter comment is just bickering.

Not making excuses for any platform. I do most of my gaming on PC at this point.

I make statements with my wallet, not whine online. Project Cars 3 is the perfect example. I don't go online and bark at the people who like it (few at this point) I go out and buy ACC instead. Why? Because whining doesn't work, most people learned that at a young age.
