I think its a real shame that Sony didn't take the hit on the camera and ensure everyone had one. It essentially kills developers urges to try and do cool stuff with it.

Derp. Mad already.
Derp. You mad brah? I was wondering how you knew that one console has sold less than the other. I'm sure even MS bean counters haven't added that up yet. Have you got a link?

And here I was, worried that Microsoft wasn't making enough money.

One of the biggest costs isn't included, R&D. I wonder how big that number is and how many consoles they have to sell to recoup that cost.

X1 shoulda dropped at $450. Still made bank and actually have a chance of not being boned by the PS4 during the holidays.

Judging by what happened within the first 24 hours for the XO, I'm not so sure that the PS4 is going to dominate this holiday season like some would like to believe. Many already thought it wouldnt reach 1 mill. Look where that went and its $100 more. Just sayin...

3 billion multi-year contract with amd for r&d and manufacturing of the SoC.

100 million for r&d and the controller.

if the estimate at 388 is in the ball park for total cost to manufacture, then Microsoft should have launched at $449.99 or more preferably, spent that headroom on better specs.

I think MS would have sold about the same numbers at $400 or $500 at launch. They're mainly supply limited at the moment. Later they can drop the price $100 and attract more of the casual market. Sales are pretty good so far. I don't see them removing Kinect unless they must.

As far as increasing the specs, there's a tangled web of design issues and mandates that lead to Xbox's final specs. They needed 8GB RAM early on for all the media/multitasking features which meant DDR3, but they also wanted a SoC for cost, and performance/watt, which meant putting 32MB ESRAM on the SoC instead of other options. The ESRAM ate into the GPU budget because they couldn't make it much larger than 5 bil transistors due to yield issues.

It's launch what do you expect. Hardcore Sony-Microsoft fanboys are always among the first to buy a new console.

The real test will be after the first year. When the "Oh my goshhh a new console!!!" Fever dies out.

They both did good job at launch which is most important. I don't care about sales unless it is truly effecting either company in a bad way. I personally don't think Sony will dominate but will probably sale more due the cheaper price and most powerful hardware image.

Um, 1 million ps4s sold in North America v 1 million xb1s sold worldwide is a bit of a difference....

Same amount of stock released just one was spread out in more areas. Also why do people keep saying it only launched in north America?

These guesses make little sense. It really feels like straight up guessing if you ask me.
