A month after YouTube's biggest star uploaded a video containing the phrase "Death To All Jews", the service that once hosted that very content is distancing itself a bit from Felix Kjellberg.

Variety reports that YouTube has cancelled the second season of Scare Pewdiepie, the premium $11.99-a-month show that sought to scare Kjellberg IRL in elaborate, video game inspired ways. Additionally, YouTube will also remove Pewdiepie from "Google Preferred", which is an advertising service for "brand-safe" content (which Pewdiepie is most certainly not, even discounting the Nazi jokes).

Taken together, both of these repercussions will have some kind of effect on Pewdiepie's actual income, though he will still be able to monetise his videos through normal means on YouTube. In the past, Kjellberg has said that his normal income-per-view on YouTube is low because his brand of "edgy" humour also limits the advertisers that YouTube makes available to him. "My content is not necessarily family friendly, it's got a bunch of profanity," Kjellberg said.

YouTube's decision follows the news that Maker Studios, a division of Disney, also cut ties with Kjellberg over videos with anti-semetic jokes. The most infamous video had Kjellberg paying a pair of men to hold up a sign that said "Death To All Jews", though he has been known to reference Hitler and Nazis in plenty of other videos as well. It blew up to the point where Kjellberg started garnering support from real neo-Nazis.

Scare Pewdiepie season two was announced last year as a collaboration between the executive producers of The Walking Dead, as well as Maker Studios — the latter of which might explain the sudden cancellation. The first season is still available online. Many of the videos that sparked the Nazi controversy, however, are no longer available.

For his part, Kjellberg has insisted that he didn't intend his ongoing Nazi references to support anti-semitism. "I was trying to show how crazy the modern world is, specifically some of the services available online," Kjellberg wrote on Tumblr. "I picked something that seemed absurd to me — That people on Fiverr would say anything for 5 dollars".

Who knew that an Aryan making jokes about killing Jews wouldn't go down well. SJW's have gone too far!

You can't hold attractive people to the same rules as fugmo's!

Oooh, and Disney dumped him too.

Who the hell are giving him all these shows? He isn't that entertaining!

Never watched this guy's stuff for more than a minute. His annoying voice was enough to get me to move on.

My 11 year old does also. I don't think he watches pewdiepie, though, but I have heard a few f-bombs from one of the guys he watches. Fortunately our son is pretty mature so I don't have a major concern with that, as long as it's not starting to approach Kevin Smith territory.

The funny thing about this specific thing is it looks like pewdiepie's point was more that it's pretty amazing and/or sad that fiverr (or whatever it's called) would have a model where people would literally do just about anything for $5, so this was more to show off that absurdity. If that was the case, I don't mind it as much - still not particularly interested in his antics in general, though. Also don't mind the companies deciding that his antics aren't something they want associated with their brand.

He really isn't, but his fans eat up everything he does. He's the most popular guy on youtube. So he was a natural shoe-in for developing premium content with when youtube wanted to push the Red service. Youtube/Google must either really take these cases super serious when they directly affect them, or it's a front for them wanting to separate ties and basically demote him to a basic level youtuber that just happens to be their most popular guy. Meaning they don't pay him as much for his Red stuff. I wonder if they signed him on to multiple seasons ahead of time and wanted to just end it first chance they get. As for Disney, you know the rules when you work with them. You do anything that might in anyway compromise their image, even indirectly, and they'll sever any ties they can.

It came to my attention yesterday that some have been pointing to my videos and saying that I am giving credibility to the anti-Semitic movement, and my fans are part of it as well for watching [...] This originated from a video I made a couple of weeks ago. I was trying to show how crazy the modern world is, specifically some of the services available online. I picked something that seemed absurd to me—That people on Fiverr would say anything for 5 dollars.

I think it’s important to say something and I want to make one thing clear: I am in no way supporting any kind of hateful attitudes.

I make videos for my audience. I think of the content that I create as entertainment, and not a place for any serious political commentary. I know my audience understand that and that is why they come to my channel. Though this was not my intention, I understand that these jokes were ultimately offensive.

As laughable as it is to believe that I might actually endorse these people, to anyone unsure on my standpoint regarding hate-based groups: No, I don’t support these people in any way. Yeah, what do you mean you can't pay two guys to carry a ‘death to all Jews’ sign in 2016?
I hope this is all hitting him harder than Chris Brown would.

You can't make non PC jokes online!

It won't. He's already made so many millions, and he still has his channel.
If you know anythibg about him, he's actually quite humble and lives a very modest life. Hes even donated a lot of what he's made. Those swedes don't live extravagant lifestyles.
This won't hit him hard. He's even said before he doesn't do it for money. He'll probably laugh about it, make some crude joke about it...and then move on.

I just wanted to make a joke about Chris Brown beating Rihanna, really. I don't care what the dude says, but at the end of the day, don't bite the dick that feeds you.

Kudos to him for milking all that money while he's still relevant.

Yeah, and he'll continue to milk it. Even without the paid channel, he's the most subscribed to youtuber. He'll be making money long after this blows over.

I doubt that. I watch LPs quite often, and many of the ones I watch are lucky to get many views at all.

You have to spend quite some effort building up a following, marketing and whatever else needs to be done. Most of this stuff is tedious and time consuming. I doubt anyone would do it just for kicks.

Filming the videos is the fun part, but that alone doesn't get you many views.

Maybe he considers this his job and treats it seriously, but he has gone well beyond the cost of living comfortably. And well, he is NOT that great to watch. So, I just don't buy that he didn't work his ass off to build his user base. If he didn't do it for money, he sure must have wanted to be popular or something.

I've seen other people make a living off of streaming/LP/whatever, but they make a more modest living. If this guy was really fun to watch, I could understand his popularity, but I rate him very low compared to the other LPers I watch.

Have you seen where he lives/records out of? He lives extremely modestly. I think it's a cultural thing.
And he really doesn't work his ass off. I mean, it took years to get there for starters. Also, he literally just plays games while cursing. He just so happens to have amassed a the largest YouTube following.

Well, he must have been pretty lucky then. I have been watching other people who have recorded for longer than he has, and I doubt they could even make a living off of it.

The people I watched who said they rely on it mentioned it being a lot of work, so who knows. I guess he just happened to do the right thing at the right time.

As far as the Fiverr incident is concerned, Pewdiepie was apologetic.

"I'm sorry for the words that I used, as I know they offended people and I admit that the joke itself went too far," Pewdiepie said. "I do strongly believe that you can joke about anything but I also believe there's a right way, and not the best way, to joke about things.

"I love to push boundaries, but I would consider myself a rookie comedian, and I've definitely made mistakes like this before," Pewdiepie continued. "But it's always been a learning and growing experience for me... this whole situation has definitely been that for me. It's something that I'm going to keep in mind going forward."
https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/02/p...h-to-all-jews-joke-slams-wall-street-journal/

And then he goes on to slag off the WSJ.

But the best thing about that link? The comments! They're all accessing each other of supporting "The Fake News Wall street Journal" or "the Nazi" lol.

It was a terrible joke. But the media does take things out of context a lot.

I saw a video on YT where a black guy was asking the question, " Where do white people come from?". His scientific research led him to the conclusion that white people are vampiric aliens from another dimension, that came down to Earth to take over and rule over a peaceful utopian society.

I laughed. But there was probably a lot more hate in that video than Pewdipie's entire career. Unless that YT'ber was joking. Then its brilliant.

Political correctness run amuck.

I dont like his, my daughter loves him. I won't lie, I've chuckled at some of his stuff.

Attacking comedians for their brand of dark humor is nothing new.

Dumb #1
- I've seen a few of his videos in the past. Heard he was a huge YT star so wanted to see what the commotion is. Awful videos. A bunch of nonsense any YT guy can do

Dumb #2
- Guy has a huge legion of fans, sponsors, and tons of revenue coming in. Guy tries to get on a bigger pedestal he's already on. You'd think that he'd be mainstream and say normal stuff, so sponsors don't cut ties. Guy says something dumb about Jews and gets axed from contracts

Dumb #3
- People actually care that he says a dumb Jew joke like that. There's so much crud on the net, a whimsical joke like that is in poor taste, but it's not like he killed someone. Celebrities, athletes and famous people say dumb stuff all the time

My son just turned four and thankfully has no interest in Youtube celebrities like him. I'm hoping by the time he's old enough, we'll have a brand new type of inexplicable youth celebrity trend I can be baffled by and shake my head at. Maybe virtual reality furries, who knows.

He actually kinda looks freakishly like me. But with a broader chin and less offensive. (And I dye my hair grey.)

But in saying that, he still is looking at this in two completely fragmented minds!

He keeps trying to say that he's human and he f***ed up, and it wasn't personal blah blah.

But then he keeps harping on about people attacking the brand, and approaching his sponsors before contacting the brand of Pewdiepie.

Pick one, or the other.

Hell, play it like Kathy Griffin and get an audience that will bleed with you! Own the filth you sew, and move on.

This middle ground is bulls***. Don't play a good guy when you never intend to be one. I don't think anyone ever expected you to be one.

Freaking hell, I feel like I should make a career out of yelling at youtube idiots.

Well, that response was pretty much a disaster.

The Twitch ones aren't loading for me so I don't know what he is trying to rationalize. Even without them, he was all over the place in the response and talking about things that didn't jive with what he was showing. His Obama argument was one of the dumbest things I've heard from someone trying to be intellectual.
