I did that with Final Fantasy XI haha. Made a character, didn't care for it, so started all over again. People are like you're nuts. I'm like well.. i'm going to be playing this game for the next 5-10 years of my life so i need to get the character right. RPGs will make you crazy.

That first area serves as a prologue of sorts. However the general feel is pretty much the same throughout the game.
No, this is my first Witcher game.
Hopefully I'm just getting used to things. I'm coming off of MGSV and the frame rate, wonky controls, combat and walking simulator aspect of it are off putting to me.
Only an hour in though so I'll keep on trucking.
Okay. When you mentioned framerate issues I assumed you were referring to the PS4 version as it has some atrocious dips.
What are your specs?
I get a locked 60fps with everything maxed at above 1080p resolutions, but I do have a high end rig with the game on an SSD.
I have to set it to medium and I'll get around 45 frames per second. It was chugging at higher settings.
Witcher was a slow burn for me. It wasn't until about the halfway point (40 hours, maybe?) that I really started to get into it. For the first 20 hours or so, it felt like fairly standard RPG fare to me -- not bad, good stuff, but nothing to warrant all the praise I'd heard. It wasn't until I got to about the halfway or even two-thirds mark that it really started to shine for me.
Stick with it until you get through the tutorial area (White Orchard) and reach the next big area (Velen). Play a couple hours in that area. If you still don't like it, it might not be for you. If you're enjoying it enough to continue, press on. The second half is better than the first.

It's funny. I've beaten one RPG in my life, which was Pokemon Blue and played about 10 others, mostly the classics. They always grab me pretty quickly and then my interest wanes after 15 or so hours in. Hopefully this'll be different.
There is one single setting that actually really impacts performance and that is foliage view distance. Turn that down to normal or below if you find your framerate dropping. Goes without saying that anything 'hairworks' related needs to be off entirely.

Glad to hear that Shani is back. She was my main squeeze in the first Witcher game.

If you still don't like it after the "Family Matters" quest series in Velen, then you probably won't like the rest.
Use Quen with the gain life when enemies try to hit you. Hardly even need to medicate again, hardly ever a situation you be 'almost kill' barred some boss fight, at least on bones & bloods.

I'm doing a side quest where I have to burn three piles of dead bodies. Each one is guarded by some low level shlubs.
I got the the first party, pressed A to douse the pile with a flammable, and hit Right Bumper to light the bodies up.
Now I'm at the second pile and it appears as though I'm out of the Right Bumper juice.
How does one replenish this? I tried meditating to no avail.

I will try this. However it does not make sense to me for the following reason.
When the Priest and I were finishing up our dialogue, Geralt asked the Priest "Where will I find you?" in reference to getting his reward. The Priest, walking away with his bodyguards mentions some Tolkien esque place that I don't remember. It appeared to me that he was on his way there right after I embarked on the body burning quest.
Now that I'm on the quest, only 3 things are on my mini map. Those 3 points of interest are only the dead bodies. Wouldn't they have a 4th icon, somewhere close by, illustrating to the player where the Priest is so you can go back to him after each burning?
Anyway...I will try it.
It's strange that you can't use the oil. It's still equipped to the right bumper right? What haooens when you press it?
