Because the Quantum Break thread is not about the game anymore but rather a discussion about Microsoft's Xbox and Windows 10 game support strategy.
Crapgamer am cry.
Crapgamer am cry.
MS is the publisher though.Plus it would seem that this will mean more money/sales for the publisher, and a broader audience, which both mean a greater likelihood of sequels/new IPs.

MS: Bringing Quantum Break To Windows 10 Is A Great Benefit; We Didn’t Know We Could Do It Before
February 13, 2016 • By Alessio Palumbo
The news of the week and perhaps even of the month so far is that Quantum Break will unexpectedly (though there had been a rumor) release at the same time on PC and Xbox One.
This generated a lot of buzz in the gaming community, with PC gamers happy about the unforeseen present and Xbox One gamers feeling a little disoriented, since Microsoft had been telling everyone that the game would be an Xbox One exclusive.
In fact, during Gamescom 2015 PC Gamer was able to interview Phil Spencer and it sounded like Quantum Break definitely wouldn’t launch any time soon on Windows.
In the case of things like Scalebound or Crackdown or Quantum Break, you know, just to be completely honest with you, we started those games before we really looked at expanding into Windows in the way that I wanted to bring as part of becoming head of Xbox. Going to those teams mid-cycle and saying: ‘Hey, by the way, I want to add a platform,’ didn’t really feel like necessarily the best way to end up with the best result for the game. They had a path that they were on. It’s not to say those games could never come to Windows, but right now we’re on the path to finish the great games that they’ve started, and I want that to be the case. These games are on a path, whereas with, like, Halo Wars 2 I had the opportunity from the beginning, when we’re sitting down with the studio, to say, ‘Here’s the target. Here’s what we wanna go do.
However, something must have changed shortly after that. Even so, Microsoft wasn’t fully sure to be able to launch Quantum Break on PC on April 5 until now, as confirmed by Head of Xbox Marketing Aaron Greenberg in the latest Major Nelson podcast.
We weren’t sure how and when we could get the Windows 10 version done. They lined up [with the Xbox One version]; a lot of people’s reaction on Twitter was like, I get it, you want to bring this to a lot more gamers to play, but why didn’t you tell us about this before?
We didn’t know we could do this before.
The DirectX 12 environment for both Xbox One and Windows 10 probably helped the faster than anticipated development (which is being done in-house at Remedy Games).
Greenberg also made it clear that in Microsoft’s eyes, bringing the game to Windows 10 is a huge benefit.
We’re trying to bring gamers together, we’re trying to break down the walls if you will.
To be able to bring a title like Quantum Break to the Windows 10 ecosystem is a great benefit. We know that there are a lot of PC gamers out there who would like to play the game, so that opens up a new audience.
Interestingly, if you pre-order the game digitally through the Xbox Store or through participating retailers, you will also receive a digital download code of Quantum Break for Windows 10 for free.
Moreover, the game will feature cross-saves so that gamers who own both versions can continue their Xbox One progress on Windows 10 and vice versa. Check out the official PC requirementsand the latest trailer if you haven’t already.
Is this crapgamer? Lol.
Is this crapgamer? Lol. Wow, just wow, Mattrick was the worst for the Xbox brand. He ruined the brand with his short sightedness.
Mattrick wouldn't have convinced Sam Lake of s*** because Mattrick would be more worried about tv and sports than games. He would be more worried about garbageware for Kinect.
Also, the studios that Mattrick opened were s*** tier Kinect studios and totally wasting the talent of Rare with Kinect garbage and avatar crap.
If Mattrick was still in charge the Xbox brand would be dying.
Backwards comp has nothing to do with the cloud lol.
Why should they stop with cross buy? The games are going to be sold in Microsofts Win 10 store. They are trying to beef up their store as they unify their platform across all device types.
Again, extremely short sighted
This is about leveraging the Windows 10 App Store. It's about heading towards their future of one platform across all device types. I'm talking about a future where you can stream your Xbox games to a device like your cell phone from the cloud. Your saves are in the cloud and you can pick up and play where you left off on your phone, tablet, laptop, PC, Xbox branded hardware and Hololens. That is what Microsoft wants. That is what they are doing. It's very much worth the effort for Microsoft for their vision.
They have been doing an extremely great job managing content for the Xbox one since Mattrick ran away. They have been bringing a ton of new games down the pipeline.
As stated above, it is Microsoft's job to manage game content for PC in order to succeed in their future vision.
People forget that the Windows 10 app store is coming down the pipeline for the Xbox One also. They are trying to beef up the store in order to attract indie devs/pubs to release their games there. If the win 10 store is unified across all platforms, imagine this. We know Street Fighter 5 isn't seeing the light of day on the Xbox one. What if, Microsoft's convinces Capcom to release Street Fighter in the Win 10 Store, the very same App Store that the Xbox one will use because of Microsoft's unified store vision. Guess what, you are playing street fighter on Xbox branded hardware even though it is suppose to be a PlayStation console exclusive.
Your statement about PC not having 10 exclusives is simply incorrect and really, an ignorant statement.
SSFIV is terrible in comparison to SFV.
Maybe SFV will be on the win 10 store.
Honestly, if they made Forza for PC which allowed Dynamic weather/puddles/time of day on all tracks I would go get a beefy graphics card right now.
Xbox fan since 2000 (Since the Raven tech demo)
No he didn't. People like CBOAT, Thruway and that Driveclub guy did by lying and Neogaf stating they were vouched insiders. Where are they now? Disappeared back into the filth that spawned them.
Mattrick comissioned the MIGHTY RYSE! In a time where those charlatans were saying the XBO was only marginally more powerful than a WiiU, that game went on to defeat every other game....and every tech demo for siggraphs praises. Phil Spencer honored this legacy by letting a struggling developer flog 50,000 copies on steam.
Mattrick would have bought them out and had their families held hostage to ensure Ryse 2: Here be Dragons graphics looked 10 times better.
Such was his power.
Yes he would. Mattrick was awesome. He was part Tom Cruise and Part Matrix. He could shape the world as he saw fit.
He opened 343 Industries and Black Tusk (Now Coalition) to bring Gears and Halo in house. He also brokered the aforementioned Quantum Break. Phil Spencer paid $2B for Minecraft...and still lets it be sold on PS4 and WII.
Don would have created a virus to delete every digital copy and personally snapped every disc.
Praise be upon him.
If The Don was still in charge, MS would own Apple, Google, be almost done making Shenmue III with $200M budget and would be managing the worldwide sand shortage because of all the silicone used in Xbox One production.
It does. 10 years ago, downloading 8GB games would have been unrealistic and limiting. Buy managing it serverside, it's now possible and realistic and managable..and actual.
They shouldn't stop cross buy. They should stop porting their top tier exclusive games to PC.
There is literally a barrel load of C-Tier indie games they could have paid off to provide draw instead....it wouldn't have worked, but neither will this.
You can't call it short sighted without knowing the end game. Right now it looks like the XBO lost a high profile exclusive. Of course we know MS will outlive Sony and Nintendo in the long run (20-30 years) so it's just a waiting game, but for the time being, it's a gut punch.
How does that net the Xbox One more exclusives? Because you might as well argue MS could make more money by releasing their games on PS4 as well as it being another avenue of convenience.
And can stream your XBO stuff to any W10 device already....so whats the point of porting Quantum Break to PC?
Back compat I 100% agree. It's a fantastic feature. Shifting purely to Xbox One software. How many exclusives? As in, games absolutely not available on any other platform?
No, it's their responsibility to manage the W10 store, not the PC's entire lineup.
I'm not interested, i'm just awaiting that BC for SSFIV i got free on GWG. It has more characters.
Could you list them? 10 TRIPLE A retail games or 50 indies.
Mattrick and Balmer totally screwed up the xbox brand on their own, and Sony capitalized on their idiocy.
Please, Microsoft knew people weren't going to buy into their s*** tier, anti-consumer, xbox plan before the thing was even announced. if they didn't know, they should have fired every single person in their analyst division, because there was a rumbling of negativity growing about the xbox one at least a year before the thing was even revealed.
Then talk about the s***iest excuse for public relations. Oh you are in the military, sorry xbox one isn't for you. we have the 360 for you? Please, Microsoft didn't need anyone's help to ruin the xbox one, because they did it themselves. You think general consumers knew who CBOAT, Thruway or Driveclub guy were? Mattrick and Balmer totally screwed up the xbox brand on their own, and Sony capitalized on their idiocy.
Ah, the jokes, acknowledging you have not counter argument.
BTW, the Coalition came into existence under Spencer. He is the one that acquired the Gears of War license.
Let's see, what First Party/Second Party Studios did Mattrick close or let go multiplatform: Aces Studio, Ensemble Games, Bizarre Creations, FASA Studios, Real Time Worlds.
I have no idea what you are talking about.
That has nothing to do with the cloud. You can use physical disks if you want for the listed backward compatible games.
But why? What difference does it make if exclusive games are still exclusive to Microsoft? If you can only get them through the Windows 100 App Store or the Xbox One Games Store, it's still exclusive to Microsoft.
They are going to be able to make more money on their software because that is where the money is made. Not consoles sold.
I mean you can believe this all you want, but this is just dumb. Sony has been around longer than Microsoft by 20 years. Sony isn't just gaming. They have their entire movie/tv/music lol. Then their is their insurance company Sony Life lol.
And Nintendo, seriously? Nintendo became an entity in the late 1800's, they aren't going anywhere lol.
More profit on games, more money to take risks instead of relying on the same tired franchises.
Why stream games from the xbox one to Win10, when they can be played natively, at higher resolutions/graphics quality, and still make a profit on a game sold?
Again, Xbox no longer is just one dedicated piece of hardware. Xbox is now a brand, a service. So to answer your question, a lot. Scalebound, ReCore, Gears Ultimate, Quantum Break, etc etc etc.
They aren't managing the entire PC lineup. they are managing their W10 store, by releasing awesome content like Quantum Break, Scalebound, ReCore, etc etc etc.
X-Com 2 just released I think last week. Star Citizen, Battlefleet Gothic Armada, Arma 3, Fornite, Unreal, Whatever game Cliffy B is working on, here's a good list:

All Don wanted to do, was let 10 people share their Games libraries.
Your only legitimate mention was FASA. Who made Shadowrun...they deserved to be shut down for that offense.
Shadowrun was a really good game. A game that needed support but instead got sent to die.
It's ok. I snagged a digital copy when there was a Live glitch for free. It's mechanics were decent, but as a game, it had 9 maps (i think) and no campaign and no split-screen and Halo 3 was but months away. For a 3 year turnaround at $60 it wasn't enough. Can't fret over every egg.
Shadowrun was a really good game. A game that needed support but instead got sent to die.
Is that console exclusive in the sense that it's only on Xbox One or on PC as well?
QB was originally a Holiday 2014 game, the third piller franchise with Halo and Gears. If that isn't sacred...
Woah. This is a hole heap of s***.
I love the idea of buying a game once, and getting it for all my platforms.
AND having my saves work across both. For free.
Why the hell would someone not want more for free?
I was going to make a similar analogy involving blowjobs from the hookers that you and your mates share on the way home from Friday night drinks after work, but yours works too. It's because they are taking our juuuurbs.
Look, PC gamers don't buy games apparently so this coming to PC means PC gamers will buy it in droves and potential Xbox One shoppers will not buy a relatively inexpensive console and instead build a beefier and more expensive gaming PC to play Quantum Break on. And also insecure console owners want to feel special and part of an exclusive club and that's been ripped away so there's been crying going on. It's like at school, you think you're cool because you got a rare shiny sticker for your Transformers sticker album but then others get it and you don't feel so special anymore. It's like everyone getting a Soundwave shiny on day one, except a small number of kids get a higher resolution shiny sticker. But then you can buy the regular shiny sticker and it also comes with the higher resolution one as well for no extra cost. That analogy is great, I feel pretty good about that. Yep, nailed it. Good.
All this means impending doom and discontinuation of Xbox consoles and the heat death of the universe.
And Cartman licking salty tears off the faces of insecure console owners and Transformers stickers.

If it means a better chance for the games/bj's I love to get sequels, count me in.
