It is a shame. The scary thing is people on Reddit couldn't even find any evidence that MP code was ever even attempted. Supposedly nothing about where you are in the game is ever transmitted.

This is why you don't hype games for years. Talking about a game (or any computer program) for that long is going to lead to this.

When i watched someone play the game on the first day and saw him pause the game about a minute into it... i knew the multiplayer aspect was a complete lie. You can't pause a shared universe. I can't believe that guy was actually bs-ing people that it was in there, even after the game has shipped.

It's like he was playing a completely different game.

Now at $60 a pop, he's a millionaire and likely does not give a f***. Super shady.

Multiplayer would be a stupid waste of time anyway. I've played many hours and have discovered a planet found by someone else... one time.

Of course they talked about it all the time so people understandably thought it was a thing.

That's kind of shocking about the discoveries not saving. Although if I think about it objectively the same reasoning for locations not saving on a planet would apply to the creatures on that planet. It's very disappointing though. I'm still enjoying the game either way.

Discoveries save, the game just doesn't track your exact position to allow multiplayer (for example are you near the northeast corner of X).

Discoveries should be ok, as those are fixed locations. The game knows you found them and where they are, just not exactly where you are.

The point is they never even appear to try to send any kind of exact position info. So, people are guessing that the feature was never even in development.

People are going refund crazy with this game over on Reddit/Gaf.

still loving the game and look forward to a 2nd one or ongoing updates to this one. for sure looking forward to this on Neo.

I put the game on pause. Going to see what happens with it in the months to come. I've enjoyed what I played so far, but if other things will improve or be introduced; I'd want to see them.

I think I am too. I actually platinum trophy-ed the game yesterday, finished the path of the Atlas. Was pretty much loving it until finishing the path of the Atlas, really disappointed in how that completed. I'm putting it on hold for a while.

I hope they keep working on the game and improve it. It has such promise, but just gets so horribly repetitive.

I wish people would support indie devs more in spite of what happened. We need games that go beyond the usual COD/Madden yearly releases.

Hopefully in the future its better indie games that get this kind of sales and attention

Plenty of non-indy games go far beyond that.

I wish people would stop overpraising indie games and treating them like they are something new or special. Most of them are simply re-imagined ideas of bygone eras. They tend to be seriously short experiences that don't justify their cost.

"AAA" games is still where the quality games are. It is still where the best experiences are.

Whether it's indie or big budget, I hope that developers take notice of how much excitement was generated by No Man's Sky. I hope they use that to motivate them to produce games that do space exploration right, in a way that avoids NMS's pitfalls. This is a genre ripe for expansion.

Agree, looking forward to a sequel that solves some of the initial miscues. The hype will be far less as well, which will be good. Their success will be driven by the quality of the final product.

things getting trimmed late in the process.

That would be my guess as well. The game was already delayed before, so I imagine the scope of the game was beyond his timeline.

Its not like AAA games are any more fresh. You are doing for AAA what you are complaining about how some do for Indies. In the case of both some are special but most are not.

The problem is I don't think we've heard anything from the developers at all. Hopefully they are looking to improve the game but honestly they may have just taken the money and run.

Luckily its a little bit less money with all the refunds being dished out

I think someone told Sean Murray to keep his mouth shut.

The video game community cracks me up. I get that it's widely made up by kids, but some have the most juvenile theories and ideas at how businesses are ran. The things that people make out to be enormous dramatic conspiracies never cease to amaze me. I'm never sure if I should laugh or be sad.

People take this stuff way, way too seriously. For all games, not just this one. In Destiny they make one tiny change and you'd think the 4 horseman of the apocalypse were riding around killing puppies and kittens.

With this, what they did was flat our wrong, but I'm not going to harp on it or lose sleep over it. My time is too valuable and life is too short. I'm enjoying the game so I play it. Once I stop enjoying it I will play something else. Not others though... read a review of a totally unrelated game and someone brings up this game.

The whining and entitlement is just too much sometimes. This is supposed to be fun, right?

I am not sure what specifically you guys are talking about but if people don't speak up what is there to discourage other studios from doing what they did?

Is it really entitlement to ask Hello Games not to lie about their game?

Endless whining accomplishes nothing, especially when that whining is preaching to the choir. I mean people brought it up, exposed it and discussed it. It has run its course. Now I'm reading reviews of Deux Ex and seeing Sean is a Liar!!! links all over. Every other video on my youtube feed is yet another remix of this.

Speak with your wallet, not with your keyboard. STOP PREORDERING GAMES.

I preordered this. Guess what? That's my mistake.

However this game is still a great base to build on, and I'd like the developer to support it and enhance it. That's what I want. Piling on any more does not help that to happen. They've gone silent now, so that ship has sailed to another system.

Maybe it is excessive but the media attention on it and the refunds that were given that otherwise wouldn't be given are a positive thing to me.

The silence from HG might be a smart thing but it makes them look horrible and I don't see how any of this has to do with whether they support the game. If they take the money and run then the "whining" was even more justified.

So, what happens if say Sean posts on Reddit right now? He gets flamed. Deserved? Probably. Constructive? Nope.

It is 3 weeks later. Refunds are done and gone. Again for the short term people paid money and were angry. 3 weeks later though?

I'd like to keep the game and not get a few bucks towards Battlefield for it. I'd like to hear that this game has a future.

Sadly I don't think it does, because how does someone come back from this? They don't.

What he says can be constructive. There are questions that should be answered. People acting poorly on the internet is not an excuse for him.

At least as of this weekend people were getting able to get refunds from Sony/Steam/Amazon. That is speaking with your wallet.

And there is no reason HG can't talk about the games future. There is zero reason why people complaining should mean the game has no future.

They can have a future if they handle it in the right way. You explain, you apologize, you support the game like you said you would, and that doesn't mean selling DLC like you said you wouldn't.

Can they? I hope you are right. I fear they can't.

Once you make such a horrible PR blunder coming back is tough. Just ask MS. They are a massive company and it took them forever to make people forget about stuff that never even launched with the console.

From a strictly business standpoint is it worth it for them to provide free functional patches from this point on? Probably not. The problem is by the time that happens, the people who cared already sold the game and moved on.
