The Nintendo Switch live stream topic

Wait, so this thing only has Zelda and the 1,2, switch thing out at launch?

Time to go third party Nintendo.

Well Zelda only for launch is disappointing as I'm still playing through the old games. I really want to get this thing at launch if possible but I'm not seeing a reason. Mario Kart Deluxe in April but I barely touched the one on the Wii U. Honestly looks like summer for Splatoon 2 would be the soonest worth it for me.

DOA

- $300 US for an underpowered system... which is probably $400 CDN
- Paid online (which Ninty gamers aren't used to)
- A second set of Joy Con L/R pieces is $80 US/$100 CDN. You should also buy another grip for it which is $30 US for sake of both charging and also having the Joy Cons have a solid piece in the middle to solidify holding the controller... can't tell what the CDN price is as the site bombed out on me. So a fully functional second Joy Con controller is $110 US/~$150 CDN
- If you feel like having another docking station (maybe for another room), that's $90 US.... I'd estimate $120 CDN
- Most of the games looked cheesy. I don't think it will drum up much Western interest talking about FIFA and Skyrim, especially since half the announcements didn't even show games but people talking about it in a dark shadow
- Who knows WTF that Switch 1-2 game is

On the plus side it releases in the fall which means big sales for new launch systems and Xmas., it'll probably sell great And Zelda is a launch title (which is totally unexpected).

Edit: My mistake, it launches in March (I made the mistake of assuming it launches in the fall like every other system). It'll have big sales in the first few months, but by late in the year, it'll dry up.

Love the system but to have a bunch of moving your hands (Kinect) and ONLY ZELDA? Well I'm still going to get it in Neon Red.

HD Rumble.

Yikes $70 for the pro controller.
No kidding, WTF?!
- Reasonably priced system. Whether it's $250 or $300 isn't a huge deal, although given the technology should really be $250. If X1 and PS4 can be sold for that with higher specs, Switch should there too
- BUT hugely overpriced controllers, accessories and docking station
- Also, Ninty will be charging for online

Looks like Nintry is trying for a cash grab like Sony Vita. Sell the core product for an ok price, then get gamers' wallets with accessories. Vita had absurd memory prices. Switch has absurd controller costs. Not a big deal if you plan on playing by yourself, but isn't the purpose of Switch to be an "on the go" mobile system?.... like 4 guys playing NBA 2k at a table after they actually played basketball. lol

Overall, this thing is far worse than I anticipated. I'd only want one for Mario and Zelda, but not for the ridiculous price being asked.

Free 30-day trial of NES or SNES ROM each month.

So a fully functional standard second controller is $80 US + $30 US for that grey middle part (charging grip). So $110.

Anyone know what the price of an extra controller was for Neo Geo when it launched?

Chart from GAF.

So only 32gb storage. Expandable with micro sd cards. So how's the system going to handle patches, DLC, digitally bought games and OS updates?

You have to buy an sd card. OK fine. But after that 64 gb card gets filled up fast than what? You have to buy another?

So comparing a reasonable starting console package, using Canadian prices... feel free to do your own country comparison

X1 S and PS4 Slim (same pricing at Best Buy Canada)
- $380 console
- $75 wireless controller (second controller)
- Every package has some kind of bundled game or two or even 4 games... BF1, NHL, Gears, UC etc...
- 500 gb drive
- Systems more powerful than Switch
- Traditional couch potato system
- $455 to get started with a system, extra controller and 1-4 games it comes with

Switch (Nintendo Canada site)
- $400 console, and you want a second controller....
- $90 for Pro Controller, or
- $100 for Joy Con L/R end pieces, and the Joy Con middle grip piece is another $40, which $140 total
- No games bundled
- 32 gb drive
- System less powerful than X1 S/PS4 Slim
- Can be played on a couch or on the go mobile
- $160. Games are probably $80 like X1/PS4 games, so let's assume two games are bought at launch
- $650-700 to get started with a system, extra controller and 2 games

Lol. It's a tablet with low storage space and no 4GLTE. Wtf wtcwtf

Should have had a set-top box version with a pro controller for $50-$100 less.

Alas, Nintendo can be shortsighted. Could have partnered with Nvidia for a Nintendo S(hield) set-top box with their more advanced tegra chip that plays all the switch games for $250 with a pro controller.

What's so stupid is that since the launch of the Wii, Nintendo has said "we are taking this new direction because there is too much competition in the console space." But now they are trying to jump into the smartphone market where iOS and Android are uber competitive.

And I thought SF II HD Remix on XBLA for I think $15 was a bit much for an up-rezzed 15 year old game with new artwork.

Missed the live stream. Was working late. Someone give me the rundown.

What I know

  • $300 price tag
  • 2 1/2 - 6 hour battery life( Playing Zelda last 2 1/2 - 3 hours)
  • Online has paid Sub
  • Voice Chat
  • Some games like Mario Odeyssey, Splatoon 2, FIFA, Super Street 2, Mario Kart 8, Super Bomberman R, etc
  • Play Modes: TV mode, Tabletop mode, Handheld mode.
  • No region lock

Bout all I can think of.

-joycon controllers can work like wii-motes, has hd rumble (something something ice cubes)

-skyrim
-some Sega guy came and stood on stage, then left
-techno dj before the show was awesome, probably worth watching that couple minutes before it starts and goes to some guy who kills the mood
-square Enix with new rpg with new graphical style (it's 2d with quality lighting effects and depth of field)
-splatoon 2
-mario takes Manhatten
-ea bringing mad support with fifa
-i think there's a share button? MS the only game in town losing now
-ultra street fighter 2 hd?
-you can try switch at some locations or something at some point... i think people already started lining up
-online fee that comes with 1 free 30 day trial of a particular nes or snes rom per month, only free during that month

The EA FIFA announcement is a little disturbing, cause they never said FIFA 17...which leads me to think it will be some weird mish mash of older titles that will be labelled FIFA Switch or something.
