Yeah, the more I think about it, I'm passing on the Switch for the near future. Maybe when the software catches up it might be worthwhile but with Zelda hitting the Wii U at the same time I don't see a reason to pick up new hardware. I want Xenoblade 2 but it looks like a downgrade from Xenoblade Chronicles X and what they were able to do on the Wii U.
Unless someone desperately needs to play Zelda, or really needs a system on the go and doesn't want a 3DS or play on a tablet PC, I don't see one thing about the system that is compelling enough to buy it.
- The price isn't anything great
- The accessories are the highest priced controllers in history (with exception of maybe a Neo Geo arcade stick.... those might have been $100-200... not sure)
- The system seems to have a power level that is somewhere between last gen and current get..... Wii U-ish power by the sounds of it
- Online doesn't seem anything special, and it will also have fees down the line. Also, there's some confusion that MP may require some kind of smartphone app
- Bad battery life
- FIFA is based off the 360/PS3 version? Who knows. If true, it'll be another set of gimped ports or Madden All Stars
Best thing to do is wait it out. Aside from Zelda, other key games come out later in the year anyway. So by that time you can see how good the games are, the MP and third party support is. If it all works out, then maybe get it and subscribe to MP online. The system is supposed to be focused on MP fun, so an online subscription is needed unless you strictly want to do SP or local MP split screen. if you want to do local MP, then you got to fork out $$$ for another controller.
Just look back at Wii U. It actually had a decent launch with a decent set of launch games (lots of similar AAA games like 360/PS3), but after that it was downhill 6 months later.
Nintendo Switch is actually in a worse state of games. Aside from Zelda, they currently have no other notable games. Wii U actually had EA Sports, Zombie U, Mass Effect, CoD, Batman, Skylanders etc.... and the system still didn't get traction.
