i honestly would have got one just for batman and RE7Looks like these are slowly coming back into stock. I'm still torn on getting one when Amazon finally gets them in.
Nintendo style artificial demand? I've been peaking at Best Buy's website so I make a drunken late night purchase of one but haven't seen it listed in a couple weeks.
But that kind of logic doesn't really work with tech that is going to surpassed rather quickly.I'm thinking the shortage is real. This is uncharted water for Sony. I imagine they aren't cheap to produce so I doubt they have great margins and Sony didn't want to mass produce themselves into a hole if sales were dragging. Perhaps they were taking a wait and see with all the early adopters to see what impressions were like to and ensure the tech was holding up. Just speculation on my part.
I don't follow. Which part isn't logical; I agree with your points but don't see how your points and mine are mutually exclusive. But that kind of logic doesn't really work with tech that is going to surpassed rather quickly.
PSVR is at the low end of the tech VR realm, and we're probably months away from the next iterations of their VR competitors. Their product is only going to look like the K-Mart version more and more, the more they stall the product.
They were brilliant to bring VR to the masses... Its just a pity it didn't reach the masses.

Everything we have coming out that will surpass psvr this year will be low end in a two to three years. The cool thing is while it's priced lower, it has a techical advantage over the high end units with screen door effect and it's more comfortable apparently. That's an accomplishment.
It's a constant cycle. PSVR has a full year on the console front to lay the ground work. It'll have an updated version and a lineup that will make xbox look like it usually does, lacking. MS can barely scrap together regular games, how can they suddenly be a leader here? better technology won't be enough, and it doesn't last long until Sony has better tech and of course software. A year headstart is huge.
Sony will have more units in homes soon, they probably didn't foresee this reaction but they be viewed as leaders, pioneers on the console side. Also psvr has outsold five and oculus combined in an embarrassingly short time with shortages.
I'd hope it would have outsold Vive and Oculus with such a large install base of PS4' and its lower price compared to the other two. What's troubling is the lack of marketing for it and no sales data, the same can also be said for Oculus and Vive too.
This Week In Japan, Hundreds Of People Lined Up For PlayStation VR
Wait, what? Isn't PSVR already out in Japan? You bet it is. And yet, this week, there were long lines at retailers across the country.
The reason being that a new shipment of PSVR headsets hit Japanese shops this week. Demand was so high at some locations that people had to line up for a chance to buy.

I can't imagine the value of a device that makes living in the tiny living spaces many people in Japan live in less oppressive. Besides. Japan. VR porn. Dating simulators... Think of the innovation! Why are they lining up for a failed, expensive gimmick?
PSVR is still a hard item to find. People lining up in Japan when a shipment came in.

While Yoshida did not state what their revised demand projections may be for 2016, those close to the company have indicated that they now expect between 1 and 2 million units sold in 2016 alone

It sold 900+ thousand Vive sold around 200 thousand and I think OR sold around the same(but possibly less) with both being available longer and easier to find. Plus the price isn't much different when you count the extras PSVR needs ie the $399 package will not get you up and running.
