Official Thread Playstation VR

yeah when you move in close to examine stuff, the detail is really good! I am playing on normal PS4 though, you on Pro?

I'm on pro but I'm not sure if it's taking advantage as I've heard standard looks insane.

dude I played robinson and windlands stood up and that alone makes it a more unique experience. just played RE standing up and wow, amazing!! actually looking around, turning your body to see behind you is incredible. just played through the 3rd time and got a bad ending lol don't wanna give anything away for people that haven't played yet but gonna try and get the good ending later.
needless to say, I am really happy with my preorder of RE7 which I placed weeks ago and playing this demo just sealed the deal.
I think this is going to be an amazing gaming experience.

My gf and I switch it up playing, even though we know the outcome it still gets jumps from us lol. I've gotten two endings so far, completely different. I heard there is a more satisafying 3rd ending solving murders within the house.

I hear ya, but TBH I still just love sitting in a chair and playing a game the traditional way. I think VR is at its strongest with games like RE, and maybe open world RPGs like skyrim, but for eg playing online competitive FPS titles like Overwatch or counter strike then I think the traditional method is better.
That being said, I think the next generation of VR might be true 1080p HD or maybe 4K, imagine RE7 played in VR in true 4K!!!! Omfg!!!
Then I don't know, if it gets that good, which I am 99% sure it will, then it will def change the way we game but as much as I loved playing RE7 stood up and frantically turning every time I heard a sound, I still love just sitting back in my chair and playing with gamepad/mouse k/b (hey I'm a PC gamer now lol) on my TV or monitor (PC gamer ya see) and fragging to my hearts content.

Can't wait for RE7 now, easily one of the most intense and exciting gaming moments I have had. Did anyone find the full dummy hand and attach the finger? I did but don't think you can do anything with it.

I have to ask, do you mean for right now Overwatch is better on a flat screen? I'd disagree and of course no one will try a competitive fps, so we'll never know.

Played the Star Wars VR mission, wow, that is a fan service to the films. The detail of the ships is insane. It was short, but really fun. I had a smile on my face when the music kicked in during the battle. That 20min was a better experience than the last 4 films.

How long was it for you?

I tried VR for the first time today on an Occulus demo at Best Buy. Holy crap! I want VR now.

I'm not sure if I'll get PSVR or wait and see what HMD's launch with Scorpio. But I'll have one before the end of 2017 for sure.

I played kind of a wizard type demo by Insomniac that was fukcing cool. Looking up at the buildings was crazy with sense of being there. Really cool.

Does any have, or have played, Thumper? If so, how does standard 2D hold up? I'd never even heard of it, and a guy from Polygon raved about it on his year end list. Apparently it's native 4K on Pro in 2D.

It's been raved about all over the internet, I haven't tried it though.

Got Werewolves Within and I like it. Unfortunately my brain is in, no concept grasping state. Totally in the dark until brain clears up.

Watched a couple videos, looks like it could be some fun (provided you don't fall in with griefers or the normal online hoodlums). Be sure to give us an update when you unscrew your head.

Cannot wait for RE7, who has played the demo ALONE in VR? My thoughts were this is the only gaming experience that made me sweat.

I have at night. I used to get effed up nightmares all the time, so much so, I actually got used to them. Re7 is definitely tense though, I'll give it that. It's going to be a great experience also. Looking forward to it.

I randomly asked the guy GameStop if the device is selling well. He said that he doesn't really know since they haven't gotten any units in for over a month.

I seriously considered getting one over Switch. But I haven't seen any on store shelves since basically launch.

Is Sony's PSVR Doomed Heading Into 2017?
Jan 16, 2017

Everyone is buzzing over the Nintendo Switch right now, but I wanted to cast my attention backwards to a piece of hardware that came out just a few months ago, Sony’s PlayStation VR. Despite debuting in October 2016, the first console-based VR headset seems to have almost disappeared completely from conversation in the industry.

Sony themselves certainly isn’t talking about it much. Despite being more than happy to boast about how PS4 and PS4 Pro have now amassed over 50 million sales, they have yet to publicly comment on how many units PSVR has sold. Sony has previously said that sales for PSVR are “on track,” but will not explain what that means, exactly. Later, Sony’s Kaz Hirai elaborated a bit more to Daily Star Online:

“We've always said it's going to be a slow start, unfortunately, we did produce a lot of units but we ran out of stock in some retailers, but I think based on reports coming out of the holiday season, we're actually happy with the numbers.

"One of the reasons we're not talking about the numbers so much is because we don't want the numbers to take a life of their own."

The “life of their own” the numbers would take on is presumably a story about how PSVR is not exactly tearing down the house when it comes to sales. SuperData Researchpreviously revised their estimates for 2016 sales of PSVR from 2.6 million to 750,000, which is still more than Oculus and HTC, but obviously nothing to brag about, given Sony’s silence.

But as we head into 2017, even if Sony was predicting a slow start for PSVR, it’s hard to know exactly what happens now. Almost no one is talking about the system presently, and it’s unclear what’s going to change that fact going forward.

I can only pin down two specific dates for PSVR releases in 2017: January 24th for Resident Evil, and March 14th for Ubisoft’s Star Trek Bridge Crew. Everything else, another 14-15 upcoming games (and arguably none as big as these two), are assigned to either quarters or the year in general with no firm dates. Googling “upcoming PSVR games” yields outdated lists and no official results from Sony. On Sony’s own site, of the many PSVR games it has listed, almost all of them are already out with just a few upcoming in 2017.

My question now is how is this current situation turned around? Is there a game out there that’s going to make people start buzzing about PSVR again? Resident Evil, the game that was making people sick in demos last year? Bridge Crew, which is cross-platform across all VR? It’s hard to know which games could really break out for PSVR at this point.

Furthermore, Sony is in a tough position because at launch, the advantage the headset had was that it was cheap, and it would run off a PS4 you probably already owned. But in order for that to be possible, the PSVR is in fact the “bargain” VR set, where the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are the more powerful, more technically advanced units. The more time passes, the more outdated PSVR will appear as VR tech continues to evolve. So what happens then? PSVR 2.0, when the first one didn’t really even prove its case? Microsoft can tell you how well that went for Kinect.

I do not think that Sony is going to pull a Kinect with PSVR, at least not this year. I am sure that we will see some PSVR stuff shown off at E3 2017, albeit a bit less enthusiastically than we’ve seen previously. But if things don’t turn around? Yes, it is easy to imagine Sony washing their hands of the peripheral. They’ve done it before, and they can easily do it again. One of the greatest fears about PSVR in the first place was that if it wasn’t a big hit from the outset, that Sony would effectively abandon it. While that hasn’t happened, it’s hard to say that we’re not on that road either.

I don’t know what the future holds for PSVR, or really, all consumer VR in general, which frankly doesn’t seem to be in a great spot right now. The tech is exciting, but it has obviously not caught on fire outside of specific niches. For as much pressure as I’m putting on PSVR, we’re certainly not hearing loads about the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive these days either. But I think PSVR is in a unique spot where it exists as the one device that Sony is struggling to sell, and a prime example that even if VR is cheaper and easier to access, that still may not be enough in the current market.

Maybe Sony has some grand 2.0 master plan in their pocket, or maybe there will be a breakout title or two for the PSVR this year. But for now, it’s mostly silence, and it’s hard to know how exactly that’s going to change over the course of the next year as the tech continues to age and its games line-up fails to excite.

What I find crazy bout PSVR is Sony has put zero push behind it since E3 last year. It (and Oculus/Vive) had massive buzz this time last year, and Sony has a pretty good VR headset for the money, you'd think that they'd advertise the heck outta it. There hasn't really been a peep from any VR camps in months now.

Even though this is a bit old (however, that's all there really is to go by at this point) it's a bit disheartening:

I never really had interest in getting VR but with Resident Evil 7 that may change. Then with Dirt Rally and upcoming GT Sport, plus who knows what else I may end up grabbing it later this year.

Huge news, also has an exclusive codriver mode only on psvr

It's supposed to be getting a Pro upgrade as well. Cool to see devs support "older" games on both pieces of hardware. I'll definitely consider grabbing Dirt when the patches release.

I keep getting more and more interested in PS VR as well...

Amazon hasn't had them in in forever. I have it set to e-mail me when they are back in stock and so far nada. Stuff often sells out for Xmas, but I'd think by now they'd be back.

Not sure if they just haven't made a ton or what, I am a little surprised something like that is still that hard to find.

The VR system has way too many wires, I cannot be bothered to set the thing up.

Setup killer.

It would be ok if it was just a 1 time setup but having to redo it when I want to play an HDR game is downright annoying. I hope they can patch in an HDR pass-through or give everyone who bought in a free hardware upgrade. I would seriously be playing more VR if I didn't have to pull my TV out and rewire my setup.
