Horizon: Zero Dawn

Playing this game has reminded me of some toys that were out when I was a kid, anyone else old enough to have had any of these?

I have no idea what those and i was a kid in the 80's. Although, if it wasn't Transformers, I didn't care about any other toys anyway.

And I bet that sawtooth ripped you a new one 5 seconds later! Lol

Great pic though.

Thanks, that's a thunderjaw though :) I did kill it but not on the first or even fifth try lol.

Holy crap all that stuff in the proving and afterwards. The game really opens up after that. Also Aloy is freaking great.

I didn't notice that either lol.

The screen can get a bit busy at times, but it has popups regarding weapon tutorials unless you turned certain HUD elements off.

Initial quick impression on graphics, played it both on PS4 and PS4 Pro, monumental difference. Both look great, but on the Pro and an OLED 4K, the difference is another dimension. Holy s***. Best looking looking console game of all time.
I played through the aloy- dolescent part and it is incredible in 4K Pro.

It's like a nice marriage of the newer Far Cry and Tomb Raider games, but with a Sci-Fi Block Buster-movie style story.

Definitely enjoying it.

The gameplay has a mixture of Assassins Creed + Tomb Raider + Monster Hunter + Far Cry Primal + Vanquished + Skyrim but Aloy is quicker, stronger and more agile with her own set of moves. She could easily take out Lara in a death beath battle.

The story has a mixture of Enslaved, Far Cry Primal, Lion King, Hunger Games but it also has many layers.

Overall Horizon Zero Dawn is it's own game.

I stopped when she had to try to get the young guy that fell. Truly amazing graphics.

That area is nothing compared to later areas in terms of visuals. Honestly, some of the time I'm not even impressed because it looks like I'm watching CGI in certain areas. The lighting, foliage, and texture work on some of the rocks/mountains is unbelievable. All of it combined with the smooth animations, no aliasing, and lack of screen tearing is pretty stunning.

I am taking my sweet ass time with this exploring. I am level 13 and not even got into the desert region yet. I just love exploring the world, there is so much to see and explore. I did a side mission where I went up a mountain the views from the top were amazing plus I had to fight a sawtooth to help these outcasts out. It was truly epic climbing up the mountain.

I just entreated the desert area. The dust storms are insane! One came in when I was fighting a snapmaw. I could barely see it even with the marker on it. This game is simply the new bench mark for open world games, visually and gameplay

I have just got to the end of the desert region and some of these machines are really intimidating. Is anyone else incredibly cautious coming up against new machines?

I am, especially the larger ones like the thunderjaw or the giant bird, they are hard to beat. I still haven't seen all of the machines yet though, it's crazy that I've played as many hours as I have and still haven't seen the whole map or all of the enemies yet.

I'm always creeping around most of the time. Those creepy robot noises keep me paranoid as hell. I'm at level 15 and haven't gone past the area where you have to help those guys at the caravan. I must be getting old, because I'm struggling a lot even on normal difficulty.

I've been spending a lot of time (too much) turning robots against each other and laughing about it.

It can get tough when you go up against more than one machine at a time, especially the medium sized and above machines. They don't sit around and wait to take turns to attack like enemies in most games, kind of makes me glad there isn't a lock on for combat.

Just went into the desert trying to take on 3 big machines and then a swarm of machine birds starting shooting at me relentlessly. It was hard enough with 3 big machines but birds too lol.

I'm getting crushed pretty hard on regular. In bigger battles, it just seems there's so much stuff to get stuck on. I run to dodge, only to hit a dead robot and get stuck and end up taking a boulder in the face.

Yea I'm keeping an eye on pricing now that 2017 models are showing up. The size that I want and sort of that middle to middle high quality version is around $1400 or so now from a couple different manufacturers. I've noticed with my current plasma that the top part of the screen has a flicker to it on white backgrounds so maybe if it just blows up I'll have a good excuse.
