Horizon: Zero Dawn

De3d1 is right. Horizon Zero Dawn blows you away in person. It literally made me pause. I haven't done that s*** since N64 and Crysis on the big screen.

Holy crap that first fight with the sawtooth is intense. Danger is a constant in this world.

have digital foundry done a report on the higher performance setting?

unless its solid 60fps i would rather have the checkboard 4k

No it's only a solid 30 fps which is funny since there are very few instances where the framerate dips a tall to begin with.

Saw the game at my friends house earlier today on his 4k LG.

Game looks stupid good on almost all aspects. I think overall it's definitely the best looking and performing console game thus far given it's scope (would've said The Order 1886 beforehand).

The lowest they could get the game to drop was to 28 fps, and that was under the most demanding circumstances; and generally for a split second or so. Overall though it was dead locked and that was before the Day One patch. I'm not sure if they tested it after that.

Sounds like Horizon could be the next flagship franchise for the PS brand. All i'm hearing is good things. Not sure when i'll get around to playing it but i'll be looking forward to it.

Normal here, I've never been one who likes getting overly frustrated lol.

It's not that hard so far. More challenging I'd say. It forces you to plan you attacks on the bigger machines and really use your traps. I'd spend half an hour hunting smaller ones to get enough materials for traps then take on a bigger one. It's excellent. Absolutely loving it so far.

I broke down and bought it, I was going to buy it at a cheaper price, after Mass Effect Andromeda comes out, but seeing it on a screen got the best of me.

Currently downloading and I'll be jumping in later tonight.

I tried "favor performance" mode and while it seemed a tiny bit smoother (maybe even just a placebo) the visuals went way down. Doesn't seem worth it at all.

Yup. I think the performance has been great in improved visuals mode so I'm staying there. Is this only a PS4 Pro option? Can't see why it would be needed for anything other than maybe an regular PS4.

Looks like I'll need to invest in the increased concentration perk if I want be able to do combat on a mount. Its fun but I keep running into trees. My poor Strider.

Great so far. Nailing a Geth Machinamal square in the eye is very satisfying. The Silent Strike has a nice range, couple that with the lure and it reduces the need for patience.

Yeah. lure and silent strike will serve you well.

At higher difficulty you get less resources and instead of harder enemies.

Really? I seem to have no issue with resources at all and I'm playing on the hardest difficulty. Also I've only died once so far and that was to the first kind of boss machine.

I haven't been this hooked on a game in a long time, it's one of those games where I look at the clock and I can't believe it's already been 2 hours since the last time I checked lol.

I haven't played the game, but I've watched a few hours of videos (ruining the storyline, but I really want this game!) but aren't the faces a bit... I don't know... I feel like the character designers need to learn the importance of a neck.

Necks make people exposed and vulnerable, the french celebrate them, the decolletage is the main spot for adornement... But the heads feel janky on the necks, and the bodies feel disconnected.

And that could be my only fault in this game from the videos. (Excluding the hair... Seriously? Obviously some stylists were involved in designing this stuff, but the proportions are weird at times. Maybe that's what I'm finding kinda creepy. Kid Aloy makes me feel uncomfortable the same way that Mass Effect Chick does. It's just... wrong. I want to throw it under a train. It may just be the proportions?)

Everything else, 10/10. This is the best game on a console, visually IMO. (Excluding character models)

I think it is only a pro option. It would be a nice idea if it pushed fps into the 40s+ but the way it is now it isn't worth giving up the visuals. Options are always good though. What's really impressive is how stable the framerate is with the visuals and open world.

I actually talked myself out of playing last night because I was worried I'd wind up pulling an all nighter and being worthless at work!

I set a timer last night. The weekend needs to get here so I can really let loose!

It is amazing when you foolishly attack a couple watchers and then realize there are actually 5 of them...and no slowdown with all the expolsions, lighting, and muliple attacks coming at you.

Spoiler

Aloy is a noob

This is one of those games worth owning the console for. This is so polished.

It's like a nice marriage of the newer Far Cry and Tomb Raider games, but with a Sci-Fi Block Buster-movie style story.

Definitely enjoying it.

Yeah I think that's a fair enough comparison. It has elements of monster hunter as well with the way you need to prep for then take on the larger machines.

Gotta love a photo mode that lets you change the time of day.

This pic looks a little darker than it does on my tv, too bad HDR doesn't come across in pics like it does when playing it. I still like it though :)
