Surprised there's not more discussion and/or celebration of the 1X numbers.

Oh, Andy ... the closest you'll get is the number of monthly active users of the X. Well, and the "This was the super awesomest launch ever" PR.

Well the fact that MS had a $500 console launch while Sony had discounts for the bulk of their sales (As MS did for base x1 as well) means more money was going to come in anyway lol.

MS could have sold the X for $1 and they never would have sold more PS4s than Sony. Read that very literally and you'll see what I meant. ;)

lol. Mau mau mau...

But actually they do have something very specific to crow about -- they had their best November ever.* Evah!

*well, for the Xbox One; the 360 beat it.

Haha I didn't take that headline that way but you are totally right, it could have been written better for sure.

Meh, it's like following a race when one car is twice as fast as the other and both of them have relatively no shot at crashing for the rest of it. There's no more drama.

The real question is how is the results of this race going to impact the next race.

In 2020, Sony will have sold about 115 to 120 million PS4's. Microsoft will be around 60 million XBox One's.

With the importance of evergreen titles now, how can Microsoft pull people from the Platstation exosystem? What are they going to try? Now that's interesting.

Yeah, if you need drama, especially console war drama, this isn't the thread for you. This thread is more for people interested in objective data about how the three consoles are doing, how the two new consoles are faring, how particular games are selling, what is succeeding and what's failing, etc. If that doesn't interest you, I suggest you start a new thread on a topic that does.

I think we're getting our wires crossed here. I'm obviously not saying sales threads don't interest me. After all, I clicked on the thread title right? I'm saying these threads aren't as exciting as they used to be because hardware sales have been largely the same year after year. The XBox One and PS4 are neck and neck during the holidays in N America for the 4th straight year. Nothing is changing, which to many of us, is boring.

As far as software...you have to remember that you're talking to the guy who thinks one of the key reasons why PUBG is GotY this year, is because it sold 25+ million copies based largely on word of mouth. So yes, sales threads do interest me.

I mean, are we only allowed to share our opinion in these threads if our excitement levels reach a certain height? That doesn't seem right.

Andy, you seem very defensive about this topic. What gives?

Defensive, no, but maybe a bit annoyed or impatient. I know your history -- booted out, return under another name, booted again, return under another name, etc. -- and I've already felt trolled by you once in this thread, not long ago.

Now you've said (two or three times) that you're not interested in the topic. You've said something else interests you, which would be off-topic here. So I'm saying, go talk about that thing. Just saying "this is no fun," "meh" and "I find it boring" doesn't contribute anything. Sticking around doesn't make much sense, either. If you don't find it interesting, go talk about something you do find interesting.

And if actually you do find it interesting (as you're saying now), well, you didn't make that clear. It reminds me of when you said software doesn't move hardware, and then you said that's not what you meant, even though it's what you said. And I don't track or remember your opinions, so all I'm responding to is what you're saying here.

"...and I've already felt trolled by you once in this thread, not long ago."

Andy, can you please sign this non disclosure agreement my lawyer is writing up? I can't have this coming back to bite me when I replace Seacrest on Live with Kelly and Ryan in a couple of years.

Aa for the rest of your post...Yeah, wires crossed.

I don't think MS will even bother trying. I wouldn't be shocked if MS got out the console hardware business and just took all their microtransaction filled games third party.

Note that UK numbers above do not include digital, so PUBG is actually doing better than that.

Here's the UK platform splits for the week:

Estimates are that first week UK (physical) sales of PUBG are between 64 and 70K, which is very good. Next week's results should be interesting, too.

It's probably the 4th strongest debut for a console exclusive Xbox One title in the UK, behind Halo, Gears, and Titanfall.

Isn't PUBG digital only anyway? The boxes at the store are just digital codes. Or are they counting boxes with digital codes in them as physical sales?

Yeah, they're counting the boxes sold in stores as physical sales, even though inside the box is only a digital code.

Well that is a slippery slope. So essentially, I could just write down a 25 digit code on a piece of paper and sell it for $30, and it's a physical copy.

Since the game is not physical i will assume they bunched the sales together.

Damn fifa is like 2:1 ps4 over xbo....
I am surprised the X software sales are as high as they are if the PS4 is outselling the Xbox 2:1 over there. In many cases, software sales are almost 50/50.

I'm not seeing how it's a "slippery slope," although it does make it hard to calculate the digital vs. physical split in the UK. Categories get a little mushy when "physical" includes buying a digital code.

Do they even sell this game as a physical copy? Or do they just sell it as a code?

It's just the vagaries of the way the tracking system is set up in Europe. GTK or whatever they're called can only get data from stores and retailers (maybe some game companies, too, I don't know). They don't currently track digital sales (that is, someone buying and downloading it directly through their Xbox). Wolf mentioned they're working on it, but it's not in place yet.

You get a case just like every other physical game release but it simply has a code in it rather than a disc.

So those sales will be counted as physical. I can walk into my local and walk out with a PUBG game case or simply buy it from the store.

As far as I know, it's not available in physical. In fact, the policy at Microsoft for Game Preview games is that they are digital only titles:

https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/xbox-game-preview-faq

"Xbox Game Preview is a way for our fans to preview and purchase work-in-progress digital titles"

So having "physical" statistics seems off to me.

I see. Yeah, it wouldn't make much sense to produce physical copies of an early access game that will be very different a month from now.
