Today me, my bro and a friend went on a three hour train ride to another friend of ours. He has the Xbox One and PS4 since day, he imported the One simply for KI and the other games are just as extras for him....he is that much of a KI fan. The guy has a projector, same one as me and we saw it on his 120 inch screen.
Last week my bro did pretty much all he could to get a hold of a PS4, with no luck. Which saddened him. But after this next-gen gaming day....that sadness has changed.
First our friend showed us BF4 on 360 and then moved on to BF4 on PS4. It was ugly as hell on 360 and clearly obviously better looking on PS4, but solely talking about how it looked in multiplayer....i was far from blown away and had expected a lot more. The 60fps was great, but all else didn't impress me as much as i had thought. The campaign though looked great, especially the lighting. But its painfully clear that BF4 is a cross-gen game. Then we got to see Killzone SF and i used to be a fan of those graphics, but for some reason it really didn't blow me off my chair at all. I actually thought things looked a bit blurry at times and just not groundbreaking. I then thought it was the 120 inch screen being the cause of this....but if that was the case...why DID Ryse totally blow us away? More on that later.
Same story with NFS Rivals, while the cars looked nice and the action was cool, it was so painfully obvious this is a cross-gen game. Of course it is quite crisper than the last-gen, but it just isn't amazing or anything. I however will buy it when i buy a next-gen console, cause it is just a lot of fun and that at the end of the day...matters most. We also saw Warframe....absolutely nothing special. Graphically alright i guess but i'm sorry....nothing special. DS4 controller is clearly better than DS3 and more comfortable but personally it still in no way is a 360 controller or One controller. Menu too...it's clean and simple..it does its job,but i highly prefer the tiles of One.
Then it was time for the X1 and we got to see Ryse. It was me, my bro and several other friends and as soon as we saw it..we went OMFG...this looks amazing. The attention to small details is fantastic, the sense of war is really there, its brutal, actually looked like a lot of fun and it was THIS game that made me go....jesus...i can't wait to buy this game and just see it on my own screen at home. So this is 900p, right? Yet it manages to look a s***load better than the 1080p game on PS4, Killzone. So 900p? Care, if i hadn't known, i would have thought it was 1080p. Dunno about other games...but in this case...the resolution bulls*** is incredibly overrated, but probably all done by people who have no f***ing clue in the first place, lol.
It was time for Dead Rising 3 and damn....our eyes!!! After Ryse , DR3 didn't look too good at all. I am not gonna lie, sure it looks better than DR2,but this is not what i'd call next gen. The amount of zombies was really cool though and i WILL get this, cause for this one without a doubt : Gameplay > Graphics! But again...we had just left Ryse,,,so....nuff said. I am no fighter fan,but Killer Instinct was great and looked really good too. 720p,right? Again....the resolution bulls*** is overblown. I really liked the rain effects in the Glacius stage. Not sure if i will buy this one though, cause with only 6 characters or so...i dunno how soon i will get bored.
What we had not expected though was how awesome Kinect Sports Rivals Preseason looked, omfg @ that water and it reminded us a lot of Waverace. Unlike plenty Kinect 1 games....this game was very accurate and actually FUN with the new Kinect. We are actually looking forward to this one now. Sadly our friend doesn't yet have Forza 5. Would have loved to see that one. So like i said..my bro was about to buy a PS4 last week, almost had paid 500 for it via a Ebay-like site, but didn't. And after today he was happy as hell he hadn't, cause he was very disappointed in the PS4 stuff and he's going for X1 first 100%. Even i had my doubts, but after today...it's crystal clear. X1 first and later on the PS4.
If there's one point of critique....the voice commands was hit or miss. Sometimes they worked fine and sometimes the console just ignored him basically. So who else still doesn't have a next-gen console, was on the fence about one, has played on both and has made their decision?
