6 Year Old Or Older Games Got More Playtime Than New Games In 2023

Nah, people stick to what they’re comfortable already rather than learn something new, for any new game or ip. The industry is in something they don’t know where or who to target

Helldivers 2 is this year's Hogwarts so far in terms of surprise factor for me. People just want fun games with friends for a live service.

They are the problem, though. They are the reason for these bad games. COD, Battlefield, Halo, Titanfall ( in nonexistant now), Gears of War, etc. All once good games that have nose dived quality wise since trying to go GaaS. GaaS literally ruins games.

Is there really a good GaaS game. Fortnite seems the same now as it did at launch. Destiny has been a s*** shw since day 1.
The amount Fortnite adds and changes is impressive.

They also just upgraded their whole game to a whole new visual engine (UE5) recently plus the constant balancing and changes to gameplay. They even added new modes like Lego and car racing.

I wonder how much graphics play into it? Back in the day, leaps in graphics over a few years were massive. You knew you were playing a 2-3 year old game. I mean, back in 2005, playing an old game would have been a massive drop in visual quality. I remember a time when playing a 2 year old game would have been a massive step back in visuals.

Now? Graphics don't advance nearly as much, and seem to scale to hardware better. Do I really care from a graphics perspective if I'm playing 8 year old Siege or 1 year old COD? (or even COD from a year or two ago)? For a multiplayer FPS game, I'm turning down graphics options for framerate anyway.

I think we're mostly going on gameplay, and a game that has a good gameplay loop can just hold on longer.

They are just a few months removed from adding a racing mode, a rock band mode, and the lego minecraft knockoff. That is substantial without even considering anything they did to Battle Royale.
Its an ecosystem in and of itself at this point. I don't like Fortnite but I can't deny the progress it has made.

Graphics can enhance the experience by being optimized and using less resources, increase fps or other stuff, granted with more time in development.

lol. Only 6 years after launch.
Took 4 years or so for a no build mode.
The season offerings are small.

Fortnite is nothing special in regards to the content quality and quantity.

You bring up these "modes" but they are rubbish. I played both the racing one and the guitar hero rip off and both are poor representations of their genre.

Where Fortnite excels is having competition without screwing you over like Warzone, Apex, COD, FIFA etc does.

Graphics have never made a good game bad or a bad game good. Same goes for 60+ FPS.

I for one love Fortnite now and think it’s the best shooter on the market. The updated graphics, no build mode, updated movement, quality of life changes, loose SBMM, Minecraft mode… has been great to me. They been on their game since last year.
