Banned for Early Xbox One Impressions

The anti-MS gaming media still runs wild! "Shipping error"... yeah ok.

Game publishers will get people banned who play a game early too, but when MS does it, they are the evil empire. So out of touch with the average poor gamer who was just sitting innocently as a package was magically delivered to his door early.

I also love the added touch of the "surprise day 1 patch" needed to play! OMG! We had no idea that was coming. Except that MS announced it ages ago. Has this poor gamer gotten over the trauma of having to connect onto this scary network of computers to play some video games?

What media? No one has even had any time to really cover the story. It broke over night and aside from a few outlets with short pieces on it, most won't really get into it until Monday. It is consumer backlash on social media and on messageboards fueling this. And what exactly would MS have to do in order for you to say that THEY made a mistake and they have some culpability here? Is there one?

It was a shipping error. Somehow Target sent out 150 consoles before they were supposed to. Target has some splainin to do not swami. They violated the street date. Clearly it was an error, it was not even a day 1 console. It was a green boxed one.

That makes sense, it'd be nice if they came out with that statement first, then banned.

So, I guess this means the 500mb might not be the final size.

Nah, still anti-consumer. He legally bought a console and it is not like those functions were not yet available, they simply chose to ban him for doing nothing more than using a product he purchased.
your still not seeing the bigger picture then.

Happy now guys? lol

No. Their policy of guilty before proven innocent has always been a problem for me and always will. There are better ways to go about things and that is coming from someone that has never had a ban in 10 years on the service.

Disabling early access is a very standard industry practice. It doesn't matter if there was intent or not (and yeah, like some guy making $8/hour at Target didn't decide to supplement his income a bit). This kind of thing happens with games all the time, yet when MS does it, it becomes a "PR nightmare".

The "poor helpless gamer" gets tromped on by the evil empire. I'm sure we'll get more of these stories over the coming weeks.

but how are they going to make a statement first if they didnt know at TARGET sent out the console without MS knowing about it.

MS did the right move to take care of this problem, he can live for a few weeks till live is ready.

Has nothing to do with guilty before proven innocent, the public was not supposed to have access to XBL until the 22nd so the console was banned from XBL..pretty simple. He still has use of his GT and X1 just not on X1 XBL.

What big picture?

They only banned him from XBL on the X1, and it's temporary. He still has use of the console offline. The console was obtained before the street date so MS is fully within their rights to block online access until the 22nd, it's amazing how many people make a mountain out of a mole hill, or try to make it look like MS is a big bad guy.

They certainly look that way. Sony had a similar situation with the Vita. People got it early, people posted impressions and pictures of the games and the UI all over the net days before release. No one was banned.

another word people they just blocked him from going to xbox live, thats all. NOT a Perm banned on his console or Gamertag.

He just have to wait, also he is very lucky as well.

Its not his fault MS knows that but they want to make sure its live for everybody when they hit that switch thats all.

Another tempest in a teapot. It's like everyone is on edge, and it takes only the slightest provocation to send people off on a rant. It's a very weird time. Lot of tension in the air.

then you know they are people who have trouble reading and they scan read and only see the key words and run with that.
They are a lot of them out there.

What big picture?

He still has use of his X1, he is just blocked until XBL on X1 is available for the public. Not entirely sure what the big deal is with that....guy gets product early..part of the product is not ready for the public...guy gets blocked from using that part until it is ready.

But they are FORCING HIM OFFLINE! No gamer should be forced to not connect to the Internet. :D

It wasn't his mistake. He did not sign any NDA's nor was he bound by them. It was Target's mistake. Are you telling me that if an xbone showed up on your doorstep this morning you would sit there and look at it boxed up for the next ten days? I find that hard to believe. The guy was genuinely excited and was doing a great job selling the device. He was getting others excited about the device. They took that and made it a negative and another public situation that they must extricate themselves. More bad unnecessary PR.

I would certainly unbox it and play around with it..but I also would fully expecting to be banned in some regard too. This is not a negative, only people keen and making MS out to be a bad guy are making it a negative, even the guy wasn't making this big of a deal out of it. If they banned his GT from 360 too, or locked down his console completely then yeah I could see it being a big deal. They didn't stop him from tweeting, or posting pictures, they stopped him from accessing an unready for public xbox live service, that's it. God forbid he has to wait until everyone else to use XBL....oh the horror.

If someone obtained any game before street date (say an mmo), and was blocked from using the servers until the street date, would it be as big of a deal? probably not..in-fact I doubt anyone would say anything about it..but because it is MS it's this huge deal. Hell, when that video went around of that kid leaking a dashboard vid everyone was making jokes about him getting banned, or his father being fired or whatever, but now with this guy it's a huge deal that he got blocked and it's all anti-consumer or whatever other bs.

If I got my Xbox One tomorrow morning. I would of course download the update. Then I would disconnect the internet from it immediately. I'm not stupid, I would expect to get banned. This is a non issue made in to a massive issue because it seems like hating MS is in fashion right now.

I have it for you but it's currently tied up in a Nigerian bank. Give me your account number, cover the transfer fee and I'll see that you get it.
Ok, but first you need to put a dead chicken on your head and do a funny dance and take a picture so I know that you are for reals.

unbelievable how this has blown up. Guy restricted from using Xbox live on an unreleased system playing unreleased games that is NOT ready to have the public use yet. If they let this guy have free reign itnwould be a free for all with people demanding their consoles now and whining and moaning about how it could be out now but big bad evil MS is keeping them from their precious.

calm down people, 12 days (or 5 for you Sony fans) amd we will all have the systems and chill out.

If I got the system early I probably would had done the same thing he did. Well not tweet non stop like he did. I would had messed around with the TV stuff most of the time and watched a Netflix movie. This dude was so casual that he didn't know what a Ethernet connection was or what resolution his TV was, and to top it off he only had Call of Duty: Ghost lolz.

LOL yeah I saw the pic where he was like "and it has this port"...I was like uhh that's an ethernet port.... His tweeting did get pretty excessive though, ending him in twitter jail , not sure if his secondary account got twitter jailed too.

They took down an unboxing video with a copyright strike FFS and some of you don't see how that could be viewed as heavy handed? Really? For an unboxing video? Come on.

Of course it is a negative. They have Major Nelson on the case on his weekend. If it wasn't a negative they would not even be addressing it right quick, they would let it linger over the weekend. Just a FYI, people have been banned from Live for playing games purchased before the street date. Happened with Halo 4.

And some of you have to stop with the persecution complex. MS acted and there was a reaction to ther action. People did not just wake up and decide to suddenly hate MS one day. MS and its employees had a very large hand in that. Just like Sony did last generation. That is what happens when you create a consumer product in a vacuum and forget what got you to the dance in the first place. Long story short: You reap what you sow.

Has some of it gotten out of hand? Sure it absolutely has, but the denial of MS' culpability in all of that is galling and demonstrates a lack of self awareness on both the corporation's part and on its defend at all costs supporters.

What they did do was shut down the best PR they have had since they revealed the damn thing -- cutting off their nose to spite their face to appease a media already in their pocket. I could see if the guy was negative but he was effusive and really seemed to like the thing and was getting others genuinely excited for the product.

I'm glad it was just a temp ban, otherwise that would have been messed up.

Nevertheless, he probably wouldn't have been temp banned if he hadn't been putting all kinds of stuff on the internet.

The story isn't even that he was banned, although you couldn't tell that from the link bait media. The story should be that the dashboard is essentially finished, and is already extremely polished, and runs very smooth. That the X1 cold boots in a fraction of the time the PS4 takes to boot. Games and apps take a fraction of the time to launch compared to that other console. That the X1 runs cool and silent. That the day one patch is not a cause for concern. No one is reporting any extraneous crashing. That overall Microsoft has delivered the console that they promised. Basically all the FUD of the last week has been absolutely debunked.

Of course the link bait media that is now without ~any~ credibility on reporting about the X1, and has been pushing the FUD non stop is going to ignore all that and focus on evil big videogame, as though Sony is some sort of underdog here.

Sony lost. They will be going bankrupt because of the X1. They got beat not the way Sony beat Sega, by a massive paid for trash talking campaign, they got beat because they couldn't make a console as nice as Microsoft.
