Banned for Early Xbox One Impressions

I know people have been banned from games with broken street dates, and yet no one throws a stink about it..at least not this big of one, yet this instance isn't very different.

Also, a copyright strike doesn't automatically mean MS took it down, although likely. DMCA takedown notices are not the hardest things to fake, and most places use an automatic service instead of actually reviewing each request.

They took down an unboxing video with a copyright strike FFS and some of you don't see how that could be viewed as heavy handed? Really? For an unboxing video? Come on.



Of course it is a negative. They have Major Nelson on the case on his weekend. If it wasn't a negative they would not even be addressing it right quick, they would let it linger over the weekend. Just a FYI, people have been banned from Live for playing games purchased before the street date. Happened with Halo 4.

And some of you have to stop with the persecution complex. MS acted and there was a reaction to ther action. People did not just wake up and decide to suddenly hate MS one day. MS and its employees had a very large hand in that. Just like Sony did last generation. That is what happens when you create a consumer product in a vacuum and forget what got you to the dance in the first place. Long story short: You reap what you sow.

Has some of it gotten out of hand? Sure it absolutely has, but the denial of MS' culpability in all of that is galling and demonstrates a lack of self awareness on both the corporation's part and on its defend at all costs supporters.

What they did do was shut down the best PR they have had since they revealed the damn thing -- cutting off their nose to spite their face to appease a media already in their pocket. I could see if the guy was negative but he was effusive and really seemed to like the thing and was getting others genuinely excited for the product.

Why would I read the comments for articles? I get what I need from the articles rather than opinions that could be the same 5 guys posting the same things over and over under 100 different screennames.

This is what any shrink worth their degree would call text book projection. Notice how you never mention MS' culpability in all this. I understand why you didn't, but you can't expect me to not take note of that very telling fact. It speaks volumes as to who is and isn't delusional here.

I don't hate the xbox. I love the first two. I want to love this one too. What I do I loathe is the most recent people behind it and a sleazily deceptive PR team that has come off like a pack of grifters for the better part of five months now. It has been insulting. I think the brand and the product deserved better than it got in Mattrick and Panello and the rest. I think so far they have failed the brand and in turn their fanbase with such a poor beginning so full of bungles and by putting so much effort and faith into things their customers did not want. I expected better from MS and really wish they could get their house in order.

Keep in mind xbox live is not the console owner its Microsoft Server. MS dont care that he got it early, but they do care about accessing MS network that is not read yet.

Yes, and early reviews are now in. The X1 is stupidly nicer than the PS4 in the UI department. Like the PS4 with its 32 second boot takes twice as long to cold boot as the x1. Same thing appears to be true for apps and games. Of course the haters are going to try and spin these bans as a bad thing, and totally ignore how much nicer the x1 is than the PS4.

What about the guy who posted his early x1 on ebay for $10,000. Wow, Kotaku could have bought that console and found some tiny glitches and focused on those for the next two weeks. All the time ignoring that the overall experience is miles ahead of the PS4. Thankfully MS was on the ball and closed the leak almost as soon as it happened.

The UI stuff may not be important to you. But as a cable cutter, the X1 is literally the ONLY made for tv device that lets me instantly switch between Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu with an integrated guide. At $500 that device is very spendy. But the X1 also plays games.

didn't know the reviews are out care to point me to them? I also never seen a video of the PS4 boot from a cold start and apps getting loaded care to share? You sure do care about the PS4 a lot for a person that only wants a X1.

It isn't about the evil empire or a banned system or a media conspiracy at work here. The point I was making is Microsoft fails again and again when it comes to building positive public relations. They have made bad decision after bad decision in marketing the Xbox One so is it any wonder it didn't stop here. Is it any wonder they would rather squander positive viral publicity, which most companies would kill to have, and instead squash the little guy in public. Then hand out some apology cards explaining why they had to do it.

I think it was the right thing to temp ban his XB1 from live. But I still don't agree with their initial DRM policies. In fact this would have been much worse if online DRM were still there and he was literally left with a brick with no guarantee of unbanning. The unpopularity of mandatory online DRM was far more widespread than "a small group of MS haters".
