It is getting a backlash from gamers who have never played the previous games or maybe just played NV and F3. They also think that the game should look a certain way regardless of how big it is or what the engine is doing in the background.

Everyone else who knows what the game is going to be like already know that visuals take a backseat, and also know that the visuals have been improved and are content with how the game looks.

I posted a video a while back of fallout 3 in the Fallout 4 thread. When you look at that and then look at this, the jump is obvious & huge.

Skyrim looked phenomenal when it launched.
Skyrim also didn't garner any backlash when it was unveiled.

Were the gamers who are criticizing Fallout4's graphics sleeping when that happened? I'm confused.
As I said to you in the F4 thread....

Good to see that your anti-Fallout 4 posts all night were a farce.

Skyrim was a good looking RPG, but it did not clean up the messes of Fallout 3. It was just a different setting. Both games still had the same kinds of game engine, weird physics, bugs and the PS3 version was crippled beyond belief where it had save game corruption and could run in single digit frame rates. Both console versions ran at more inconsistent frame rates and had more screen tearing than F3 too.

Goes to show you didn't even play Skyrim.

Good night!

Skyrim looked significantly better than Fallout 3. On so many levels in fact.

It's funny, I was just having a debate with someone about Ricky Rubio (NBA basketball player). This person was adamant that Ricky Rubio was a poor defensive player.

I just said to myself "If this person can't even admit that Rubio can play D, then it's not worth having a discussion with him."

I'm saying the same thing with you now. I'm not sure if you're trolling or just a few fries short of a happy meal. Either way, you don't seem like a person who can have an interesting conversation when talking about this specific topic.

Well when Skyrim launched we didn't have resolution gate. Everyone cares about resolution now.

When Skyrim launched 30fps wasn't an issue. Both the PS3 and 360 could run Skyrim at 30fps and that was fine.

When Skyrim launched people actually cared more about gameplay.

When Skyrim launched it was an improvement over Oblivion in every way. Hence no backlash.

Fire up Fallout 3 and then look at what we just saw from Fallout 4 and tell me with a straight face you see only marginal improvements. If you can say that then you haven't played Fallout 3 or New Vegas in a while.

Definitely not frame rate. PS3 dropped to single digits. There were times DF's video showed the pre-patch game running at ZERO frames per seconds occasionally which meant the game froze for tiny parts of the game. lol

Even a Pentium 4 from 10 years ago could run the game better.

I see a game that I believe is going to get lapped (visually) by its peers this year.

You can't just say "Hey, it looks better than 2007's Fallout 3 so that's good enough for me." and expect people to be OK with that.

The bar has been raised and Bethesda didn't meet it. It's that simple.

It really is huge.

Hell even when you initiate dialogue with people the game world doesn't freeze anymore like it did with F3 and NV.

I even noticed that in VATS as well. When the mole rats were targeted they were still moving. That is a first for a Fallout game. Again, taken against what Fallout 3 and NV were, Fallout 4 is an improvement in every way. No two ways about it.

To sum up the Bethesda conference (to get around Hard Land's anti-F4 rants):

- Doom. 1080p/60 consoles. idtech 6. Snapmap complex map editor available for all
- Fallout 4. Lots of customizing weapons, gear, home. Collector's Edition comes with a working pipboy
- Fallout Shelter. Free smartphone app... not sure if available for PC.... Customize a vault with rooms and people, fend off attackers
- Dishonored 2. I think all the footage they showed was render type stuff. You can play as either a male or female lead
- Battlecry. A big slashfest third person view MP game. Looked choppy as heck
- ES: Online. Showed some footage of more expansion levels
- ES Legends. Card game. I forget if it's free or part of ES: Online or a standalone game

Well I know the graphics are an improvement over F3 and NV. Sure other games look better (Witcher 3) but are probably doing less. I'm going to be playing on PC so if something really bothers me it can be modded.

That said I know that the gameplay will be there and that is all I care about right now.

If people have a problem with the graphics that is on them. They can play games that look better but have half the quality.

Living T, let's not turn this into a thread about 1886!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
That is what makes Union great.
I like that Obscene Jester & This_Hard_Land for the most part remained quite civil in our discussion.

I'm just so freaking passionate about Fallout. I grew up playing these games and sometimes I get a little too passionate I will admit.

Do people think that Doom will look like that and also run 1080p/60fps? I'm fairly skeptical.

I can believe it. The textures didn't look amazing to me, but they didn't look horrible either. I wouldn't be surprised if the stuff we saw was from the console version.
I think it's doable. idtech 5 ran great on last gen. I believe 720p/60 fps.

Doom levels are corridor environments, so it should theoretically open up resources, as opposed to big sprawling maps. I'm assuming idtech6 is a decent bump in advantages over 5, so here's hoping.

Tom Howard will be laughing at all the negative comments about visuals and all the way to bank when this game crushes on the sales charts and blows away everything with GOTY awards.

For whatever reason their tech doesn't seem to be terribly taxing, RAGE and Doom 3 ran really well.

Hold on....1080p/60fps on consoles????

Fallout 4 is what completely did it for me. It looked a lot better than the reveal trailer, that surprised me. I love the new features. No more zoomed in conversations, but seemed more like how BioWare does things. But the best thing of all....

NOVEMBER release date!!!!!! Absolutely loved it when the 1-1-1 changed into the release date.

Kind of funny that some people are complaining about Doom being too violent, I don't understand what's happening in the world today lol.

I was skeptical after the initial reveal but Fallout 4 looked really good to me. I thought it was an improvement over Fallout 3 in every way. Anyone who put any real time into Fallout 3 should appreciate it. There was a lot of little things that will add up to make a big difference.

This was crystal clearly a big improvement over Fallout 3, but Skyrim as well for damn sure. Man check out those faces, A LOT better. I was very surprised that it looked so much better than the reveal trailer. I wonder why.

I think people simply forget. They see all these late-gen games and then see new-gen games, and they forget what a particular game was. Doesn't help that people use a different game as a measuring stick.

dishonored 2 with emily as protag and fallout 4 with world building are two things ive wanted for ages. awesome announcements

doom looked meh

I thought it was a good conference. Fallout 4 looked great and Doom looked good. Dishonoured 2's trailer was cool but I thought they were lacking another big game reveal such as a new I.P.

I can believe it. The textures didn't look amazing to me, but they didn't look horrible either. I wouldn't be surprised if the stuff we saw was from the console version.

There was a lot of DOF going on which really made the game look a lot better than I think it actually does....

lol, people talking about graphics in a Fallout thread. What are we doing?

Not a huge fallout fan but I'll give this one a try. I'll give Bethesda credit, they know how to make a game. No paywalls, F2P games, and community support. Other devs need to seriously take notes man.

Big surprise, thread turned into an argument about graphics.

First off, the guy's name is Todd Howard people, not Tom.

Second, I had to give the show a B overall; Fallout 4 really saved the show.

Doom looked good, but it didn't look inspired to me. It didn't look particularly innovative, other than the community creation stuff. I'm sure the hardcore Doom fans will like it, but I just wasn't feeling it.

Battlecry looked pretty weak to be honest.

The Elder Scrolls card game could be very cool, but I wouldn't know from the trailer that was shown.

I liked Dishonored, and I'm sure I'll like Dishonored 2. I was just hoping for some more gameplay, especially since I would consider it to be one of Bethesda's big hitters now.

All the Fallout stuff was really good and I liked how their passion and inspiration just came oozing through. Everything they showed here really saved the show, in my opinion.

Overall though, a good first showing for them.
