Now the question is... is it forced retirement ?

Finally. Let's bring in someone that can run this thing.

Absolutely not. Jim Ryan has overseen one of the most profitable periods in the history of Playstation. He's earned his retirement.

I believe him when he says it's hard to reconcile living in Europe and working in California, I was surprised when karmakid told me in another thread that Ryan worked out of the Northern CA office. He may not have always been the best PR person for the company but it's hard to argue that he hasn't done a good job while in that role, especially when you consider the unique circumstances that he had to deal with that during a console launch that none of the previous generation playstation execs had to deal with like covid.

They both see that just focusing on consoles isn't the way to go.
Candy crush alone will get them the 69Bn back within a few years.

Candy crush makes a little over a billion a year in revenue not profit, of course I'm sure it's not that expensive to make but it won't just be a couple of years. They are taking on over 13k new employees as well as a lot of office buildings and other overhead, those costs will be significant and that's not even taking into account the $70 billion.

A/B's profit for the entire year of 2022 was under $7 billion, very good but in no way are they going to earn that money back in a couple of years especially if they start putting all of their new games in gamepass.

Glad he's able to seemingly retire on his own terms and not like Iwata who seemingly worked himself to death while being sick.

I remember when PS fans said that Xbox would never make their money back on the 2.5 billion dollar purchase of Minecraft. They made it back in 1 year. COD, WoW and Candy Crush print money. MS will make it back in no time.

Keep in mind that Activision has $13 billion in cash or cash equivalents, so we're already down to $56 billion to make up.
