...Another publication, Bubble News, claims to have lots more details about this year's Call of Duty game. A source has told the site that the game is called Call of Duty: Patriots and Smith Black is actually the name of one of its main characters. It is reportedly in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC only, not Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or Wii U.

As for its setting, Bubble News has learned that Call of Duty: Patriots will be set during a fictional version of World War 1, and the game will reportedly have a "fantasy" element. One example provided is that one of the main characters is actually from a past Call of Duty title, but in an alternate reality. The site goes on to claim that Call of Duty: Patriots has both single- and multiplayer modes, and that the single-player mode is playable via online co-op. Splitscreen won't be offered, according to the report.

Finally, the main campaign is expected to last six hours, the site says. However, it's rumored that there will be two sub-campaigns. In addition, developer Sledgehammer Games is planning Call of Duty: Patriots to be a three-part series, according to the report. Lastly, Call of Duty: Patriots is rumored to launch November 14.

Bring on the fictional Doughboys?

Not sure I believe the game is not being made for the 360/PS3. They would be alienating like 170 million consoles versus the probable 20 million of the X1/PS.

That said, if this is indeed going back to WWI, this is epic news for COD veterans. If they go back, clearly that should mean that all these killstreak/perks and futurist weapons will be gone, and we will play the game how it was originally intended?

Maybe I will finally buy another COD again after MW1

Hm. Wonder how this would work. I am in favor of change but surely this will alienate some fans.

Let's see a Civil War COD. Has the era ever been tapped into?

Rumor: 2014's Call of Duty game is called Patriots, set during World War 1, and coming to Xbox One/PS4/PC

None of the above information is confirmed, so until we hear directly from Activision, you should take these details with a grain of salt.

Even if this story were true and it was just a next gen COD that doesn't mean there wouldn't be a current gen release for the series as well. Ubisoft is putting out a next gen only AC game but there will also be a current gen game released, it just won't be the same thing.

Yea trench warfare wow so much fun. Only to die because of diseased rats or mustard gas.

I think it would be close minded to think that WW1 could not be made really interesting and fun. Think outside of what you already have played and also remember that just because it is WW1 does not mean they could not throw in some cool Tesla like weapons/influence depending on the storyline.

I have no clue wtf goes on with CoD anymore. I saw a commercial for a game with what looked to be aliens of some sort... CoD Ghosts. I've been out of the loop too long. What the hell is going on?

FFS, just stop already Activision.

If you're going to go so far off the rails then do yourselves a favor.

Make the game so it's based in like 2345 and you use particle based weapons.

This is true, not to mention there is a lot more to WWI than the Western Front.

That said, I'm just burnt out on COD in general.

In the next COD, instead of having a dog companion you'll be jumping trenches filled with sharks.

sharks with lasers on their heads!

Does Activision not realize the amount of money that would be thrown at the screen for a 60 fps 1080p Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare remake on next gen consoles. I would be there on Day One.

Check out the History Channel FPS games. They were made with the same engine for CoD4 and while it's not the greatest thing ever, it's pretty fun and has a charm all on it's own. There's two of them and they should be cheap to grab as well.

I don't think that's as good a move as you make it out to be. HD remakes didn't turn out to be all that big.

Shockingly, I would be interested in this if it's WW1, though I have little faith in Sledgehammer.

COD needs to be an Online Co-op/Multiplayer game only , they need to drop the SP since they don't even do that well anymore and focus on the online which is what the game has really become about Imo .

I needs my Zombies!
Two wall weapons+4 perks + bowie knife= untold hours of running around in a circle,or spending 3 hours in one round so everyone can get stuff done.

I kinda promise myself not to buy another CoD game this year because of the fact that the last three games played quite similar to each other. I felt like we're having too many CoD games and the number of players online are getting thinner each time new CoD releases. :(
