On the left side we have the PC version and on the right is PS4. Both are solid, although maxing out on PC (which isn’t too difficult) has a clear advantage with the textures. The PC release can also run at a smooth 60 fps and has better shadows in certain areas, although there’s one instance of dithering that can be seen. The PS4 edition also seems to be compressed vertically, even with some areas having a black bar on the top of the screen (which can be seen at the very bottom of the page). Regardless of which platform you decide on, Resident Evil still holds up in the visual department.

Can someone tell me how is it that the PS4 can't match the PC perfectly with this port? WTF? I don't understand how devs are hitting a wall even with a port that mostly has 2D backgrounds. Someone should take an equally configured hardware PC and see if it can hit 60fps @ 1080p.

Yea it seems like they just tried to do a copy and paste job and brute force it. Its Capcom so that's probably all the money the could invest in it.

There's no excuse for this negligence. The PS4 should be on par with the PC version. I expect a PS4 patch in the future hopefully.

Why is there no comparison for the X1 version is a better question.

I have always been hesitant to pull the lazy dev card, but that's bulls***. That makes it even more of dialed in cash-grab than it already was. Seriously?

I doubt it's the PS4 not being able to handle it or devs hitting a wall, there are far more impressive games lol. this screams cash grab.

I don't think it's the PS4 either. I think they did a copy-n-paste and just brute forced it as someone mentioned. I am more concerned with the lack of 60fps on PS4/X1 than anything else.

As atrocious as the handling of the game seems to be, I can't see this game getting any benefit from 60fps, lol. That's definitely a case of people assigning too much to the framerate. It's an uber-slow paced game with clunky controls.

the most disturbing thing is they can't hit 60fps with absolute ease, not that it didn't happen at all.

Certainly from a Dev standpoint. If they can't handle 60fps with friggin' 2d backgrounds, last-gen character models and shaders, and no more than probably five characters on-screen, then there isn't much hope for a more complicated game.

Those characters should all be at least RYSE quality with impeccable IQ.

I know, I keep wondering when Nintendo is going to do the NES marios in 1080p 60fps, it just wont be worth the purchase unless they do it that way.

As for this game, its a wait for games with gold for me.

Whats IQ stand for?

Image Quality- things like clarity and cleanliness- like no aliasing [jaggies]. That seems fine in these shots, but I meant having it as well as the far higher assets. Upcoming games like the Order and Quantum Break achieve this while having much higher level processing in fully dynamic 3d environments.

The biggest contributors being resolution and AA (anti-aliasing), although that can depend on the implementation. A game can run at 1080p but have poor AA (like Forza 5) and you get a degraded image with all the "pixel crawl" in the jaggies. Lines aren't clean- the break and move as the renderer draws the scene.

There can also be anti-aliasing quibbles like methods that blur too heavily and thus make the image muddy, even at higher resolutions.

With a game this old, and so little action actually happening on the screen. I don't think there should be any reason why they just didn't completely redo the entire thing. There is no excuse for this game not to look like a gem. No one should be able to complain about anything. Alas though like dome have pointed out. This was probably a quick money maker project.

Not all developers are equal, thats why some earn millions playing soccer, & people like me play after work. They probably outsource to an third party developers that may not have enough time or manpower.

30fps is more cinematic!

I actually looked at the pictures.
-Low poly characters (& how many character/zombies actually on screen at a time? Its not dead rising is it), with low res textures, & 2D background.

Not going to get my money, sorry.

no difference worth mentioning in those screen shots.

guess its another of those "ITS BETTER ON PLATFORM X BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE SAID SO" things, and then people just run with it until they convince themselves (heard mentality) its true.

although surprised at PS4 and 30fps struggle.
Both PS4 and Xbox One hold strong at this refresh, though Sony's console has frame-pacing issues.
must be the better CPU in xbox helping out again.

The judder is caused by it occasionally rendering an extra single frame, it isn't dropping frames but going to 31 instead of 30 when it shouldn't be.

I'm not, consoles have never really pushed 60 fps over visuals, especially in these types of games. Yeah COD did it and so do most fighting games, some sports titles and some racers but overall 30 fps has been the focus for consoles.

You sound like you are downplaying 60fps. Of course 30fps has been the focus for consoles. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be done if it can. TLOU:Remastered is a perfect example. ND targeted 60fps and achieved it. Hell, even UC4 people are still hoping for 60fps..

This is Capcom after all. They're the Hood Milk of the video game world. If it ever gets a patch it'll be after the half dozen or so costume pack DLC' come out...

No I think they have just gotten way to complacent. Honestly why should they care if people keep buying games they consider "bad"
I would normally get the thing just so I have it, its the only RE I never beat. I always got stuck on the same part
( just to clarify 2,3,nemisis,CV,CVX, 4,5,ORC, and 6)
Yes I bought ORC day one. This is why I think they should have a 12 return policy on crappy games! What a waste of money
