Face Off: Resident Evil Remastered

I doubt it's the PS4 not being able to handle it or devs hitting a wall, there are far more impressive games lol. this screams cash grab.

All of Capcoms "remasters" are.

You sound like you are downplaying 60fps. Of course 30fps has been the focus for consoles. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be done if it can. TLOU:Remastered is a perfect example. ND targeted 60fps and achieved it. Hell, even UC4 people are still hoping for 60fps..

Not downplaying it just saying I don't expect it given the fact that it's never been the focus for most devs working on console games in the past.

No I think they have just gotten way to complacent. Honestly why should they care if people keep buying games they consider "bad"
I would normally get the thing just so I have it, its the only RE I never beat. I always got stuck on the same part
( just to clarify 2,3,nemisis,CV,CVX, 4,5,ORC, and 6)
Yes I bought ORC day one. This is why I think they should have a 12 return policy on crappy games! What a waste of money

I remember way back in the day when Electronics Boutique would let you trade in a game for any reason within a week for full credit, that really came in handy lol.

Yeah EB games was the shizzy! I player through so many games with that policy :D

Yeah, honestly i don't remember that, I do remember them opening at 10am with about a half dozen people waiting to get an X1.
If Gamestop would implement that policy I might actually shop there.

no difference worth mentioning in those screen shots.

guess its another of those "ITS BETTER ON PLATFORM X BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE SAID SO" things, and then people just run with it until they convince themselves (heard mentality) its true.

although surprised at PS4 and 30fps struggle.

must be the better CPU in xbox helping out again.

The same article also mentioned PS4 is equivalent to medium setting on PC, & X1 low settings.

Consoles also miss out on the PC's high shadow settings. Based on comparison shots, the PS4 offers an equivalent to the PC's medium setting, slightly blurring the lines across dynamic shadows. Xbox One goes one setting lower than this, matching the low preset on PC with visible banding, still softer edges and more flickering to shadow lines across moving characters.

Since you mentioned performance difference, I think this information is also valid. Both PS4 & X1 cannot produce 60fps, the judder is also found in Alien Isolation, when the fps will suddenly drop to around 25 fps, but only a single frame. If its a performance issue, you expect the drop to follow a smooth valley curve. Nevertheless, not sure its a design issue or something that can be resolved by tools update.

Why such a non visually demanding game struggling with next gen consoles is a mystery.

Digital Foundry Article:

The PS4 version flags up a minor issue of its own. Frame-pacing at 30fps isn't properly implemented on Sony's hardware, resulting in occasional judder mostly in cut-scenes, but also during short bursts in gameplay. This essentially means the PS4 frame-rate averages out at 30fps, but the ordering of frames is occasionally uneven in comparison to the Xbox One and PC versions. The perceived effect is that the PS4 is dropping frames, occasionally creating a stutter to running animations - and even pre-rendered cut-scenes. Thanks to the mostly static nature of the presentation, it's not impactful to gameplay, but it's a curious phenomenon bearing in mind that the other versions works exactly as they should.

i wont waste time on this one they could/should have added more and kept the classic version in as an option.

So hold on a minute. PS4 doesn't live up to the PC version and they don't even mention the Xbox One version? Sounds like they're trying to hide the fact that the X1 version is the best.

dat seal of quality.

These consoles are powerful enough to re-imagine the game in full 3D. I don't see the point of re-releasing the GC game almost as is.

I read the game is cpu bound is the reason ps4 is having the issue.

I'm more surprised that a vs thread has more or less a crappy multiplat game thread.

MLK would be proud!

If some find that offensive mods take it out. Replace with pitcher of Rodney King with caption" can't we all just get along.
or if still offensive
Rodney Dangerfield with u get no respect

You could say that, but you don't always know what goes into a game. Maybe they are using subsurface scatter on the characters, and we just don't see it. Maybe they are using more advance anti-aliasing solutions for the game, and we just don't know it. Maybe there is tessellation on the models or in various other places, and we just don't bother to notice. Even if we can't see some of these things, that which is visible is very visibly better than last gen consoles without a doubt, and to add on to that, there is even more precise depth of field rendering which can be killer on the frame rates. And it all has to be done at resolutions higher than last gen consoles. And maybe everything they added, visible or not, is just simply evident that their target was 30fps from the start.

If it were just about any other developer I'd be willing to accept that, however, this is Capcom we're talking about...

But even The Last of US on PS4 could not handle decent shadow map resolutions at 60fps. That really speaks out about these new consoles. And this Resident Evil Remaster clearly has implemented some very nice effects impossible on last gen consoles. Even if it is Capcom, they have a good excuse and alibi. And it's not as if they ever told us or ever hinted they were planning to hit 60fps. Much like nearly all of the PS3's HD collections like Ico/SotC and FFX/FFX-2, this game is 30fps.

It's the exact same, but with softer looking shadows. Literally.

No where in the article did they sated X1 winning performance test. You can be sure if X1 does win, Intellivision will make a post about it.

PS4 have curious frame pacing issue, & PS4 is running at equivalent of Pc Medium Preset, & X1 Low preset.

If anything, they recommend the PC if you have a decent rig, as it produce smooth 60fps at half decent gaming PC.

I didn't say anything about the article, I posted a Youtube video that DF made for X1 and PS4 specifically. PC is not part of it.

Of course PC is recommended, as usual.

PC>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Console.

As in a half decent PC, no a powerhouse PC.

Also, I d not see how X1 wins by the video you post. Just being honest.

Why do you think X1 is winning, or by winning, you meant look identical?

They look actually very similar, despite supposedly X1 is on low preset (maybe the compression). In any case, Considering 90% of the stuff is pre-rendered, its probably academic anyway.
