41 million vs 91.6 million

For a long time, MS could at least claim they were selling at a slightly better than 1:2 pace with it's rival PS4. Sometime in the last 12 months, that claim no longer holds any validity. Gamepass and BC have little to no effect on hardware sales.

That was just an analyst. There was an analyst that said they were at 40 million last spring.

If you read his thread in Resetera, he admits to making up the numbers on his own. He was just adding NPD/Chartrack etc. But I don't think the analyst was wrong last May either.

It's interesting. I skimmed a few threads on Neogaf and ResetEra about Daniel Ahmed and his reputation for being accurate (or close to) seems to be intact. He was banned for personality reasons, not for making numbers up. Neogaf and ResetEra had a pretty strong policy on not citing unreliable sources. Both places seem to take Ahmads numbers at face value. Can you show us anything that proves he's unreliable in terms of sales estimates?

I can't show you that he is unreliable for sales numbers, just previous claims that were not accurate. He was banned for not supplying/citing and backing up the figures for his sales claims, not because of personality, though I am sure personality was a small part of it. I have been following him for years on gaf and twitter. Not just skimming.

Well, Neogaf and ResetEra has a pretty good reputation for condemning poor or unreliable sources of information in this industry. Both message boards seem to wholly support him as a reputable supplier for sales data. Plus, he's been posting on those message boards for the better part of a decade. So he might be wrong, but he probably isn't.

Also, predictions and reporting on sales data are two different things. He was wrong about a prediction he made.

Well they had a pretty bad year in 2017 so being up over that doesn't say much. We also have no idea how they are doing worldwide.

I would guess they fell below the 2:1 gap for awhile and then got back closer to it after last year. Probably in the mid 40s.

That's not how percentages work. You can have a bad 2018, and still be up YoY from 2017.

Additionally, from what I recall, the XBox One sold a little better than 1:2 compared to the PS4 for the first few years. If they kept the same pace up the XBox One would be around 47 or 48 million units.

They haven't. Their pace has slowed considerably most likely due to the fact that MS was unable to provide very many (any?) meaningful exclusives for the entire generation.

How's that third party game play though?
 
Makes ya wonder if things may have turned out differently had Xbox still had the exclusives with third parties like COD or with Destiny and other sport titles, and or marketing rights with said third party games. I kinda feel it would have boosted it a bit but Sony would still take point with the two. Nintendo just gives zero fawks :p

Jesus! The x1 has been at or around 41 million for years now already - hasnt it?
Lol. People are funny. Low sales numbers like these come out and people bite the bit like its accurate information. It'll be 41 million at the end of the year too. Sony is ahead by a substantial margin but to suggest Xbox has sold about 10 consoles in the last year or two is BS.
