I think only dumb gamers, or biased fanboys, would think that. Neither system is head and shoulders above the other next year.

It's a great time to get in on either box. This gen is finally starting to kick into high gear and it's going to be an amazing generation. The flood of games on both boxes are going to be too much for most.

Get out of here with that sensible crap. Are you new or something?

@ Mcmasters

What lingering gap?

1. Infamous Second Son
2. Killzone Shadowfall
3. Knack
4. Drive Club
5. Little Big Planet 3
6. Bloodborne
7. The Order 1886
8. MLB 2015
9. MLB 2016
10. Until Dawn

1. Sunset Overdrive
2. Forza Motorsport 5
3. Forza Horizon 2
4. Halo 5
5. Forza Motorsport 6
6. Fable L.
7. Gears U.
8. Tomb Raider
9. Project Spark
10. Deadrising 3
11. Ryse

You are delusional.

Lol

You forgot Killer Instinct you bastard!! Oh you also forgot Ori, Rare Replay, MCC, and Titanfall. ;p

I'm sure you probably forgot some for the PS4 too, but I'm not as knowledgeable about it's lineup. Just messing with you.

I listed all production values that go beyond indie. There is no gap realistaclly. Sony games are always hit or miss they dont play it safe like Microsoft.

Not sure about that. I think Sony does a good job of catering to their traditional audience with their unique and artistic first-party offerings. I don't think this is any more safe than what MS does, it just means they have a good idea of who is gaming on their platform. MS knows that their platform holders like titles like Halo, Gears, Forza, etc.

All of it is subjective. I prefer MS's lineup of exclusives, so when I look at the Sony lineup there is very little that appeal to me. The same is probably true for those who hold a strong preference for Sony's exclusive lineup. Then you have a more eclectic group that enjoys both most likely.

I can't really speak to the Sony lineup, but I'm also not sure that MS plays it as safe as many seem to think they do.

1) No Halo game at system launch.
2) Ryse was a new IP that really would have only appealed to a niche group.
3) Sunset Overdrive was also a new IP that they helped with and didn't demand ownership, allowing Insomniac to keep it.
4) Killer Instinct was a 17-year dormant IP
5) Fable Legends is Fable sure, but it has moved away from the familiar formula and adopted a free-to-play model
6) Titanfall was another new IP from a new studio
7) MCC is Halo, but instead of doing just H2 Anniversary, they did all four games at value (it had its issues largely because of this)
( Ori was another new IP in a Metroidvania vein, all while not looking like it.

None of that is particularly safe. Really, the Forza games, the upcoming Halo 5, and Gears have been the only "safe" moves so far, in my opinion.

Ori? Isn't that one of those dirty indie games? Don't try to be sophisticated we all know nobody actually likes those games.

I think only dumb gamers, or biased fanboys, would think that. Neither system is head and shoulders above the other next year.

This is just wrong.

There are five questions most of us ask that determines our excitement for future projects. Rarely does a game nail the answer on all five questions. Those questions are as follows...

1) Is it a new IP? (ex. Sea of Thieves)
2) Could the game be exceptional? (ex. Halo 5)
3) Has it been long enough since the last iteration? (ex. Crackdown 3)
4) Do the designers have artistic freedom? (ex. Remedy)
5) Do the developers have a noteworthy track record? (ex. Turn 10 Studios)

Here's what Sony has coming for the PS4 next year. Obviously some projects will get delayed, but as of right now, there is reason to believe that each game is indeed a 2016 game.

Big Budget PS4 Games:
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Uncharted 4
The Last Guardian
Street Fighter V
Gran Turismo 7
Dreams
Dragon Quest XI
Gravity Rush 2
Persona 5
Ratchet and Clank: Re imagined

Ambitious Indie:
No Man's Sky
Wild
The Witness
Rime
The Tomorrow Children
Kill Strain
Drawn to Death
What Remains of Edith Finch

Potential Interesting Games from Japan:
Ni-Oh
Star Ocean V
Dragon Quest Builders
World of Final Fantasy

Now each of the above games, nails at least 3 of the above 5 parameters, and perhaps more importantly, none of them bomb a single parameter.

The XBox One, which doesn't have a bad 2016 by any means, it simply can not stand toe to toe with that master class of a lineup. It simply can't. In fact, many of the biggest games Microsoft has planned for 2016 have pretty big question marks associated with them.

Gears of War 4 - Made by unproven developer, 5th Gears of War game in 10 years, didn't look exceptional at E3.
Sea of Thieves - Developers have poor track record.
Recore - Made by unproven developer, doesn't appear to have time/support to become exceptional.
Crackdown 3 - Made by unproven developer, designers don't appear to have artistic freedom.

Now that's not to say that any of those games are going to be bad. In fact, all four could turn out to be brilliant. It's just that they don't have same teflon coating that many of the 2016 PS4 games have.

I understand if you have allegiances to a certain piece of plastic and metal, but just because you've invested into one ecosystem, doesn't mean you can't give props to that plastics competitor. That's what separates the fanboys from rational gamers, IMO.

Seems like you just dismissed the Xbox lineup without making similar comments about the PS games (many of which you could add similar comments to, but didn't). You also forgot some rather big titles (e.g., Quantum Break, Scalebound) plus some noteworthy Xbox indies like Cuphead.

Nice that you took out the time to call yourself out.

As for the rest of your post, you just list all PS4 games and call them interesting but then list only four Xbox One games, and there's a bunch more in the 2016 pipeline, and call out all their faults. Also your list has games that have no chance of coming in 2016. In fact, about half of them, Last Guardian, GT7, Star Ocean, etc, etc, etc. Yeah, you;d be luck to see those games in 2007. When you can post like someone who can make a rational, non-fanboy post, I'll entertain a discussion with you. Until then, these walls of text are immediately dismissed. Your post is a textbook example of a biased fanboy post that's filled with fallacies in order to deceive readers into believing your post actually has merit.

Seems like you just dismissed the Xbox lineup without making similar comments about the PS games (many of which you could add similar comments to, but didn't).

I honestly, in my heart of hearts, believe that the potential holes in the big PS4 games, aren't nearly as gaping as the potential holes in the XBox One games.

You also forgot some rather big titles (e.g., Quantum Break, Scalebound)

I didn't mention Quantum Break because that game, to me, is probably Microsoft's crown jewel in the 2016 lineup. I love that it's a new IP, that it looks unbelievably good, and that MS seems willing to extend the leash in order for Remedy to get it right.

I didn't mention Scalebound because I didn't want to appear as though I was piling on the XBox lineup.

plus some noteworthy Xbox indies like Cuphead.

People are going to hate me for this, but I didn't mention Cuphead because it's a 2D indie platformer. That's why I titled the PS4 indies as "Ambitious Indies". Go watch a video of Wild or No Man's Sky. Those indies are doing something a little bit different in scope compared to Cuphead. I will say this, I've dug around a bit through Microsoft's 2016 indies and there are some awesome one's on the way.

You, Sir William Plainview, said that Persona 5 wasn't coming out in 2015 and you said No Man's Sky wasn't coming out in 2015.

...and you were right. I thought for sure, those games were coming this year. So once again, proof that I am fail-able.

With that being said, Kaz Yamauchi said the next Gran Turismo was coming before 2017. Also, take a little time to find out when Gran Turismo 6 was unveiled and when it was released.

The Last Guardian is DEFINITELY coming in 2016. No way you take that much time to re reveal the game, with that reputation, before you know pretty precisely of when it's coming.

Star Ocean 5? I just assume it's a 2016 title because it was revealed some time ago. However, you could absolutely be right considering how long it takes Japanese RPG's to get over here.

So Plainview, thanks for placing a curse on all three of those games. If all three of them get delayed, you need to start working for the FBI.

You could have answered all his questions with the same sentence, "I didn't do it because I'm terribly biased and dishonest in my arguments."

Guaranteed full games of those titles will not see the light of day in 2016.

I can see your point with Star Ocean 5 and Gran Turismo 7. I'm not willing to bet my life on either of those games in 2016 but The Last Guardian? Why don't you think that game is coming next year?

Sea of Thieves - Developers have poor track record.

Rare was still capable of good games before doing Kinect games. I don't really fault them for making bad Kinect games.

Nice that you took out the time to call yourself out.

Star Ocean will at least come out in Japan in 2016

Why would anyone think it is?

A few reasons actually...

1) Most games that are revealed at an E3, usually release the same year, or the year after. Only a very small percentage release more than 18 months after their E3 showing.

2) Google "The Last Guardian Release Date" and a bunch of gaming outlets are reporting that it's a 2016 game. Why would Sony allow a game with a history such as this, to be reported for 2016 if they weren't positive it would make that window? Does Sony really want more bad release date PR with this game?

3) The game's been in development forever. It's been rumored to be shown for the last 2 or 3 E3's (maybe more depending). Sony is painfully aware of how this game is perceived by the public. Why would they re reveal this particular game if the release date was still in limbo?

Did that help?

It's The Last Guardian.

I don't think it will. I hope I'm wrong for fan's sake.

They did announce Feb 25 as the games release date just a few weeks ago. I am not following the game but its a big leap from actual release date to coming out a full year later so I am going with it coming out in Japan.

Yeah, even if it suffers an additional delay, Star Ocean should still make it out in Japan in 2016. Of course, then we have to wait for a Western release. That'll probably be 2017. I agree with THL about the reasons we should expect TLG in 2016. It would be a big disappointment (to others, not particularly to me) if it slips to 2017.

Delays don't bother me. A delay always means you get a better game. (I guess some would joke that makes me a good fit for the PS4.)

Seriously, all of this s*** is subjective. That's why this thread is garbage... Yet here I am....

Didn't bother with the rest of the post. I'm just going to chime in by saying I can do my thinking for myself, so please stop being so pretentious and assuming/claiming you know how "most" of us work. Especially considering only one of the questions, maybe two if we're generous, you posed has anything close to do with a game actually being fun, not to mention there is no reasonable way for us to determine an answer to #4.

In my opinion, one sign of fanboyism is when the person in question wants to do your thinking for you.

Since when has the discussion of subjective topics been without merit?

We all know that this is subjective. Get past that fact and either jump in the pool or get out. Standing on the deck and complaining seems particularly odd.
