God of War

Try as I might for any game I'm in to, I've never been able to have that level of will-power, hahaha. I always end up watching every trailer for every game I get interested in. That said, I'm glad they didn't release a ton of stuff for this one. There were really only, what? 4 significant, official videos for this game? Kind of refreshing really, though I guess there'll probably be a launch trailer closer to release...

Yeah Barlog said in his Q/A with gameinformer on Friday that he's not a fan of putting a lot of things out in the trailers and wants people to discover things for themselves. I'm sure most devs feel that way but then the marketing departments get ahold of things and give us half the story before we even play the game, I'm glad they are being restrained with this one.

I found interesting that Cory Barlog has alluded to him saying this is his last God Of War but he says he is not leaving Santa Monica studio. Could they be setting up the studio again to a two game studio again with Cory helming a new I.P. Prior to Cory joining Stig Amussen was directing a new I.P and Cory joined to create a new God Of War in 2013 but the new I.P got canned in early 2014. They are the only big Sony studio who have not had a new successful I.P in years.

Yeah they helped with a few indie games that did alright but they haven't really announced a new IP in a long time, supposedly that one that got cancelled was pretty far along and they had spent a ton of money on it before deciding against going any further. They also helped RAD with The Order but I don't know to what extent.

Interesting, I hadn't heard that. I don't blame him for having Kratos fatigue. At least he'll be going out on a high note (I'm assuming). Hope he doesn't step back into a consultancy role or something like that. A new IP would be exciting.

I gotta say the marketing dept. for Far Cry right now is a prime example of the exact opposite approach of what they've done with God of War. They should've shifted promotional focus away from the campaign months ago, that last trailer showed way too much...

Was that projected on the floor, or was it on of those "augmented for home viewing" type things?

Not sure, there were people applauding when it started and ended so I'm assuming it was projected on the floor, I only saw it on twitter not when it happened.

Edit: ESPN tweeted it out too and said it played on the court in Oakland.

As you may have seen this weekend, Kratos and Atreus made a special – and unexpected — guest appearance in Oakland, CA.

The immersive illusion employed cutting-edge technology called “projection mapping” to bring Kratos, Atreus, and the Norse world of God of War to life in front of thousands of fans. You can check out a recording of the performance above.

This projection-mapping magic uses ultra-bright video projectors together with powerful media server engines to paint vivid imagery complete with sense of motion and depth directly onto large surfaces. It could be a building, a wall around Asgard, a World Serpent…or in this case, the basketball court during half time. Because when you think of Norse myth, you think — basketball. Of course!

Santa Monica Studio drove the creative process over several months in collaboration with a fantastic agency called Platige to ensure it aligned with our studio’s vision for the game. After storyboarding the epic action sequence, we mo-capped the official in-game stunt performers for both Kratos and Atreus to ensure both characters moved and behaved in an authentic fashion.

This action vignette shows Kratos and Atreus facing off against Draugr, Helwalkers and one particularly unhappy Ogre. While this sequence does not appear in the game, its inspiration comes directly from Kratos and Atreus’ adventure.

This is just one more step closer to God of War’s April 20th release date, so stay tuned for more exciting info and content in the weeks leading up to the launch.

A big thank you to everyone who collaborated to bring this vision to life.

Previews are coming on the 19th apparently. Cory has had the European preview event all last week in London, Amsterdam etc and this week coming will be North American previews so expect new footage and news in the next week or so.

Family Guy will air commercial free this Sunday other than a 60 second God of War add before and after.

There's a lot of leaked gameplay that's been released today on various sites. Game looks really good, but that whiney little brat won't stfu for more than 3 seconds in everything I've seen.

Sony big games are usually voted best graphics every year despite PC/Xbox capabilities.

Either is winning the most best all format visuals 2018 awards.

Yeah unless something we haven't seen before comes out between now and the end of the year that looks better which is doubtful. I've said it before and I'll say it again overall Sony 1st party studios are able to marry art and tech in a way that no 1st party for other console manufacturers can match. Of course it doesn't hurt that Sony had the most powerful console on the market from 2013 until the November of 2017.

SSM are magic.

Hopefully the massive shift in gameplay still works.

I think it will, I was sick of the old formula and they basically made all of the changes I wanted lol. I wanted the blades gone and they are, wanted to be able to fight bare handed and we can and wanted to get rid of the restrictive camera angles and those are gone as are the QTE's. I think the combat now looks more brutal simply because you can see the impact of the weapon vs just blades swinging wildly and enemies bouncing up and down. The switch to Norse mythology came at a good time for me too as I've gotten more into that in the last few years, basically I think the series would have died had they not made the changes, hopefully the game is as fun as it looks.

And more importantly, kratos looks to actually progress as a character.

The commercial looks aces. I keep thinking the game is coming sooner than later April seems so far away.

I am dark on the game. I didn't watch the trailer. I want maximum surprise!
